You should do a follow up video in a year showing your improvement.

Thanks for making this! I bought this fife recently and it was great to find a video specific to the 150cn

For starting with a fife and never playing a flute or piccolo you did pretty good but fife is really high even in the lowest note so try to tighten up a little more at the beginning but your doing really good for a first time :)

Just keep practicing , it takes time to build up the muscles in your lips and hands, yes your hands may start to cramp at first. Tighten the air flow to get the higher octaves.

FIrst of all, the 150CN is a nickel-plated instrument. So it will inevitably discolor in black where you touch the mouthpiece with your lips. Look at their website, there even is a cancer warning for California. Secondly, you should still work on your embouchure - this will take some time. You won't even get close to higher notes if you can't play the lower ones correctly.
This 6-hole flute is a diatonic instrument, and those flutes are normally in D, that means, D major is their "built-in" scale with G# and C#. So all holes closed would normally produce a D, while all holes open should produce a C#. Looking at the fingering chart in your video, all holes closed are to produce a C - very strange. It works, but be aware of the fact that this is different from almost any other flute I know, where the fingerings of the first three holes almost always produce G-A-B.
That said, I would recommend taking a look at the German-made "Sandner Zauberflöte", which is a de-facto standard in German marching bands among flutists. Contrary to the AMP 150CN, the Sandner flute is a chromatic 7-hole flute also made from nickel-plated brass, but it has a mouthpiece from plastic (so you don't touch the nickel-plated surface with your mouth), it's tunable to a certain degree an the holes are coverd by plastic, too. They're available in C, Bb and B tuning - don't bother that they call B-tuning Ces for historic reasons. Those flutes are available from EUR 50 upwards, but they are worth a try.
Good luck and keep on practicing!

The tighter your lips the better and higher notes plus it needs vibrato.
To learn quicker look in the mirror blowing like across a bottle.

Do these metallic flutes sound the same as bamboo flutes?
What recommendations would you give if one wishes to buy a flute?

    • @easygermangrammar3317

I've never played a bamboo flute before, so I can't say, but I do play it (albeit very poorly) in the video, so you can hear how it sounds. What kind of flute you want to play depends on a lot, really, but if you're just getting started on the flute family of instruments, I'd recommend the Yamaha fife.

Rosie, if you want a really nice bamboo flute, I'm personally in favor of the "dark bamboo flute" from Serenity Bamboo Flutes. I got one in the key of F a few months ago to learn on and it was very satisfying and forgiving, with a fairly nice voice. I'll try and make a video on it soon, but they seem pretty great imo

    Its a bad instrument?

If you watch the video from beginning to end, I give a lot of information. Whether it's bad or good depends on what you're looking for in an instrument. There are pros and cons to any instrument. This one was kind of 60% good, 40% bad for what I was looking for.

Man you gotta tune that thing the cork is in the wrong place. You're not able to hit notes. Take another flute preferably a Geminhardt or similar and play and tune by ear.
