AMA with our DM Neal - / rollplay_qa_week_26
RollPlay is a weekly Dungeons and Dragons 2.5E campaign with iNcontroL, LivinPink, Ryan Moore, and JP McDaniel with Dungeon Master Neal Erickson (SC2 Ratings).
All graphic work is from Daniel Weijden.
If you have any suggestions for show please let me know. I'd love to have fun with the production.
Bregor needs a bow of returning
If Vincent will get his sword out of this stone he should become king, right?
"Let's get this....started!" Best one-liner ever!
I like how he included the schedule discussion at the end :p
Huh, they handled these battles surprisingly well. I'd never heard of those lizardmen with wings, but seems they're barely harder than the hobgobs. Intrigued about the petrification though.
Vinnie oughta be decapitating them to avoid more Excalibur moments. Though from the drawing, that seems a tad tricky... it'd possibly require a side attack, heh.
Look up the Dragonlance book, Dragon of Autumn Twilight.
Neal's Adventurer party: dalamar, lisa, brightblade's reanimated corpse and the one handed assasin. I'd watch that.
YES! Have been waiting all day on this
overall one of the funiest episodes so far, imo :D
They use a random number generator. The only reason that it's different from a dice is you can change the randomness of a dice roll based on how hard you roll it. If you roll extremely slowly you can roll closer to numbers you want.
I sympathize with Bregor. In my D&D campaign I am known as Gorth "Butterfingers" Ironbeard. I dropped my hammer three times in one session and I almost killed myself when I hit myself in the face. :P DAMN YOU ROLL20!
the minute he said that the lizard man turns to stone ik what the creature was it was a draconion (a creature from the dragon lance series)
You could probably go to Wizards of the Coast's website. They probably have a thing where you can look for players nearby or something.
correct me if im wrong here but they never identified the brightblade sword so they don't know what effects it might have right?
I think you might be right... they just know its +2
I see Ryan is taking a page from Catz's playbook and sporting some yellow glasses.
I love that Ryan has a real dice just incase its an important roll :p
Bregor broke his record for 1's rolled in a week.
I think Roll20 is just rather than averaging each character's rolls to ten, it averages the party's rolls to ten, simplifying calculations in campaigns that have multiple hundred players.
for the lizardmen abby could have gotten a back attack when they were joking about her asking for one, activate the cheeta amulet, she has 180 ft they are 150 ft away
+deamonyoshi876 Hehe, i wish they let her do that :p she would be so dead ;)
As if reality works spot on with probability. A mathematical equation is more likely to be follow the odds, likely proven by the testing the designers did. Neal mentioned so a few weeks back. Math is about reality, Reality isn't about math.
ryan and his epic 1 rolls. makes this so entertaining lmao!
I feel like if all it took to empower Dalamar is to use the staff, then depending on how it worked he could
1. Capture some peasents, make them use the rod/say dalamar on a wooden target or something.
2. If it only works if people are using it of their own free will, just give out like 5 to people who look like they would kill a lot of people.
Thus I don't think it actually does that, because it he would've become god or something by now.
Most people drop the mic, Bregor, he drops his bow.
I dont want any of them to die, but if one does, i really hope the next person is like a crazy split personality assassin.
Gen has no situational awareness at all lol "Can I back attack the people charging right at me?" Bless :)
Write function picking a random number in an array of 0-19, display number +1. This is a random number generator I can write one in 5 different coding languages. To see if it was actually random I made a scrip that ran this 10 000 times, and recorded the number of times each number occurred. From that the only number that wasn't statistical was 17, I ran it a few more times and this did not persist. Conclusion they are unlucky or someone is having fun with them. It has nothing to do with physics
Vincent just pulls out the D and fires a lightning bolt from it
oh my, oh my..
Physics laws are pretty much understood (at least for something as basic as this) and simulating a dice roll is doable: But it's totally irrelevant as the magic function called here is
"1+random(number)"
it's way more reliable than physical dices. If anything your "real" dice rolls have a much higher probability to get non random outcomes as they can't be absolutely perfectly balanced and shaped (and even rolled).
*SOILERS* bregor rolls a 16
Next you'll be telling us that Abigael loots bodies, Azril is short and Vincent calls people 'friend'.
Have fun with that.
Drop everything it's here!
Wouldn't the necklace of free movement prevent Vincent's sword from being stoppable when caught in the lizard turned to stone?
Rng is completely different than the multitude of variables being placed on the outcome of a physical die roll.-
In my opinion, it's a pretty bad stand in for the real thing.- That said, I own quite a few dice, and I can definitely see why someone would wand a medium which filled the role, and one could not lose.
Yay!
If a bow is fired in the forest and no one is around to hear it, what is the chance that Bregor will miss the shot?
Ryan should play dark heresy.... rolling 1 in that is pretty good ;)
Yeah just spent the past few days watching this series from episode one week one. Let's talk about problems. =P
The tenacious D's
I feel the D should run out of charges, or get broken somehow. Time to see some challenge and blood.
NOOO IM ALL CAUGHT UP!!!
*Sees in sub box.
DROP EEVERYTHING!
I would pay to see Oneal play himself
Please I beg someone tell Ryan he needs to become a Paladin of Tyranny and that way his actions make more sense and he can stay lawful in his own twisted way lol :P.
Interesting, that you would make such a large assumption like that.
everyone's got glass except Geoff.
Do rng 's sometimes use a seed? Like if it used his name characters somehow and thats why its just him?
i like the fact that this vid has 31 views but not 1 comment, regards to you kind non-first-screaming fellows!
I'm all caught up, what will i do with my days now!?
He never referenced vitamin D. He said "drop a D" as in "drop a deuce," and also referenced his "D" multiple times, jokingly referring his character's penis. The rod is the Dalamar rod. It should be pretty obvious what the link between the rod and the letter D is. (It's the first letter of the rod's name, if you still need it spelled out for you.)
Hehe, didnt really expect a lot of you guys :)
Hate to be that guy, but you are top comment. It's not actually random but pseudo random.
It's ok, you are among friends here.
*SOILERS* Bregor rolls a 1
I wonder what they used for random generation with roll 20.
Is there a website where i can find people to play Dungeons and Dragons with? I really want to try it, but have no experience other than these videos.
Aaaaaaand now i've caught up......curses
if i wanted to play this online for the first time where would i go ? (where i liver ther Arent anyy games shops ) (and its not in the usa or England)
When does Rollplay air? I mean the stream not the VoDs
new meme... fuck bad luck brian... go bad luck bregor :P
Dalamar. Starts with D
I'm playing dark heresy with myself as GM and all 8 players...
Where can i find when the next livestream is?
if i wanted to play d&d for my first time weher wuld i go ? (online of curse)
Wait wait wait... a back attack bonus negates a sneak attack bonus?
that makes about as much sense as 4e combat advantage.
"so yeah your enemy is dazed, blinded, prone, dominated, stunned, sleeping, and he's got no armour whatsoever and he WANTS to you hit him, so you get a +2" thanks Neal, ruining the classic edition rules, thanks a lot.
+PaladinGear15 I'm rpetty sure he made a mistake because she said surprise attack instead of sneak attack
IKR! How is a back attack not a surprise attack OR a sneak attack. From the back is where you get sneaked up from and its bloody surprise when they stab you in the back unannounced. Lol some legit rules going down here.
Who else watches this then lets it go straight into Dark Heresy
why did Geoff keep making comments about vitamin D when he was using his rod? what's the correlation between a magic rod and vitamin D?
Tell me: How is your opinion of what someones outlook "must be" in order to make sense to you, *not*- an assumption?
what program are they using
fuck yea so exited (i have a problem lol)
First to say I like this show
As short sighted a comment, as I've ever heard.
You'll find it's good, not to put words in the mouths of others.
when is he streaming the next week?
When are they doing week 27?
what do your dwarven eyes see azril?
When was the last time they played a proper adventure?
I mean sort of like how some rng use the system clock.
After part 7 i saw this in the related but it said it was private, taunting me. Now whos laughing..
Yeah, Roll20 IS shit, guys!
Glad you finally noticed.
14:10
what happen to the animated troll?
it got choped into peaces (he mentioned it when they searched the caves) ^^
You fail to see the point of my words.
Oh no! Neal died! D:
pvk ben dover?
and yes, the irony
lizard men time
Same here, sniff :/
Roll1
Not to offend, but, Rng is completely different than the multitude of variables being placed on the outcome of a physical die roll.-
It's a really bad replacement for the real thing.
That said, it's just my opinion that the latter be more reliable.
7:40 Does jp even know what a wombat is? lol
Well, it has to do with the simple fact that, because we do not fully understand the aspects of physics which cause a die to act in the way that it does, when rolled- we cannot properly write a mathematical equation to account for that action, So- As someone who's done quite a bit of die-rolling, I have to say that after watching 26 weeks of Rollplay- it is non-reliable, and gives in-probabilistic outcomes.
Oh how lost DnDers are without their GM =D
roll20 dot net or team liquid dot net 's thread for online D&D games
Do I know you?
It just doesn't seem to work, they have to stay together after all. Banon went for it, just like his character should and he got killed so fast. The group is stagnating and new elements aren't taken lightly. I wish the person rolling a new character didn't _have to_ join up with the group so forced like.
LOLOL
Prioritize by material quality...
...
Dark Heresy followed by D&D...
Hey, just because it's not going your way, doesn't mean I'm derailing the conversation.
You paraphrased yourself, as a massive assumption, and then claimed that wasn't the case.
That's not my fault, and if you;re unable to tell me:
"How is your opinion of what someones outlook "must be" in order to make sense to you, *not* an assumption?"
Then really, you're the one trying to derail this thing.
But nice try.
Excuse me, but- Do I know you?
If not, speak for yourself.
It's funny when people enter into a conversation they apparently haven't followed at all, paraphrases someones words, and then tries to make an objective statement about one or all of the people involved.
It's laughable really.
Take your own advice- don't add to the comments, if that really is how you feel.
cool my 3rd top comment ever
