Geholpen door een fantastische band weet Camilla George afrobeat, jazz, soul en hiphop aaneen te smeden tot een organisch, hypnotiserend geheel. George werd geboren in Eket in Nigeria en luisterde als kind zowel naar Afrikaanse als Westerse muziek. Fela Kuti, Jackie McLean en Charlie Parker waren haar voorbeelden toen ze op 11-jarige leeftijd begon met saxofoonspelen. Saxophonist, composer and bandleader Camilla George is one of the most exciting artists on the London jazz scene today. She plays the songs 'Tappin the land Turtle' and 'The People Could Fly'.
Backed by a fantastic band, Camilla George manages to blend Afrobeat, jazz, soul and hip-hop into an organic, hypnotic whole. Born in Eket, Nigeria, George listened to both African and Western music as a child. Fela Kuti, Jackie McLean and Charlie Parker were her role models when she began playing the saxophone at age 11. While still studying at Trinity College of Music in London, George was already performing with the band Jazz Jamaica at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. After she released her debut album Isang in 2014, the Evening Standard dubbed her “The Golden Girl of Jazz”. She followed it up in 2018 with The People Could Fly, the inspiration for which came from the stories enslaved people told their children.
