It's a nice simple bike. Very easy to operate, maintain, etc. Only complaint, caps out 40 to 55 top speed. Fun in the dirty, backroads, but can only go so fast on roads that are 50 speed limit of above. I still love it though. Great around town bike. Light and easy to throw around.
@@mtnmotoadv I had one and a local tuner got me a slightly bigger carb, a mild cam and a megaphone. He helped me install stock rear shocks and fork springs from his Elsinore 125 race bike. He had upgraded his little Elsie and had the stock parts in his garage. We did go 2 teeth smaller on the rear sprocket and it was a little ripper. I had to go back to the stock exhaust, local pd gave me hell for the louder megaphone exhaust. Cost us some power but it sound nicer and was quieter.
@@TheBlueDogMan When I made that comment over 1 year ago I was looking at a similar xl125 on craigslist for my first bike, but I ended up getting an '83 XL200R instead and I'm glad I did! Even the 200cc leaves some power to be desired, but I recently swapped the stock 45 tooth sprocket for a 43 which has made the bike feel like it has 6 gears now instead of 5. Surprising what a difference such a small change can make, and now cruising at 55mph is a much more bearable experience. I've been thinking of upgrading the carb but I'm not really even sure where to start researching to learn what I need to know.
ok i know this is a old video but im tryomg to talk my mom into lettig me get one of these or the yamaha 125 enduro of this era...is it a good first first bike
First bike for puttin around town, yes. Touring on roads 50 mph+ and it won't be able to keep up. You'll redline it if you try going any faster than 50 and risk damaging the engine. A modern bike would be best but if you want to trot around town like a scooter and get muddy then this will be great for that.
Ted Cichocki so update ive talked her into it if i keep my grades at as and bs and get a job. she said i will have to pay for insurence abd stuff which im fine with. but it was either one of these older bikes or a 49cc scooter which ive already had lol
Looks like a fun bike

Do you think swapping out with a smaller back sprocket would increase the top speed much?

what is the top speed?
40-45 is probably optimal but it can hit up to 55 if you push the redline.
My TL 125 would do about 55 to 60 mph easy
Bet the have loads of torque
very slow I had a 1972 SL 125....did 60 no problem
