      I noticed that meat such as chicken, turkey, or fish were not on your healthy food lists! Those are important proteins to get in, especially if you strength train! Also, doing HIIT before weights does have different results than doing weights before HIIT. Otherwise, I really enjoyed these tips! I was able to lose weight, gain muscle, and actually be motivated enough to work out consistently for the past 10 months when I had certain goals and wanted to be healthy instead of before when all I wanted to be was "skinny." Thanks for sharing your weight loss journey with us! :)

    Breakfast being the most important meal of the day has been debunked. It was a marketing line used to sell Kellogg's cereal and other breakfast foods way back when. Research has shown there is no harm to the body if you skip breakfast and likewise, there isn't any extra benefit if you do eat breakfast. In terms of weight loss, again, skipping breakfast (or having it) has not appreciable effect on body weight (given you eat a reasonable amount and type of food for the rest of the day). So basically, do whatever is right for you and your body...if you can't eat in the morning and you function fine, then breakfast isn't necessary. However, if you just can't last until lunch and find yourself feeling out of sorts until you get nourishment, then by all means eat breakfast. Find out what works for you and do it!

    • @vp3841
      @vp3841 5 лет назад +21

      So ironic how Kellogg's is inventing "healthy" rules, considering how most cereal is just a pile of sugar and empty carbs that has to be literally sprinkled with nutrients 😂

    As a yoga teacher, I can tell you the number one thing to help you lose weight, and it is something you don't really hear from anyone-breathe. Try to match each movement of your mind and body to your breath, and I don't mean just in work put. If you think you're hungry but you know you're not, focus on your breath. If you need to move but you don't want to, match your breath to your movements. Take a deep breath in, deep breath out as you stand, and continue to match your breath to your movements as you do whatever it is your doing. Being conscious of the breath in these ways anchors your mind to your body and does help you lose weight. Just remember: when in doubt, breathe it out.

    • @personincognito3989

    three quick tips that really helped me!
    1) no added sugar or refined carbs on Mondays and Wednesdays! those are my busiest days usually with non-friend activities so it's easier to commit to those two days sugar free. if I do end up eating sugar on those days, I'll move my no-sugar days to Tuesdays or Thursdays, etc.
    2) the days that I don't workout, I aim to walk at least 10,000 steps. I live in NYC so it's a bit easier for me, but I'll go on a longer walk during work if I know I'm not exercising that day.
    3) If I feel like binge eating, I'll roast a ton of my favorite veggies and eat them until I can't eat anymore! Brussels sprouts and broccoli coated in olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic salt, roast for 30min at 400 degrees F. yummiest things ever.

      Try to find something that you can maintain and, if it
      helps, work towards it in little steps. You aren't going to wake up one day and eat completely differently for the rest of your life. Just try to eat better from meal to meal and generally make small good decisions. Things like halving the carbs or grabbing another serving of veg will add up in the long run and help avoid binging compared to trying a whole new meal plan.

      I feel you. My weight has stayed the same for months even though I try so hard.
      You have to be positive no matter what. Look back on how you looked/felt/weighed when you started.
      Also don't focus on the numbers. You can check your weight regularly but you should focus on getting healthier, being fitter and looking different.
      We'll overcome this, don't give up. If you just binge and stop trying you'll set yourself back so far.

    This past summer I also lost 15 pounds and a majority of the changes/rules you talked about completely fits the way I lost weight too! (I was more strict with my diet; however, keep in mind I lost the weight in about 3-4 months, compared to a year). I love what you said about finding the right reason to lose weight. For me, I started because I was in this really unhappy, post-breakup, negative place and I thought that by losing weight, I could become more attractive and therefore happier. This really wasn't effective for motivating me to stick to the diet. Once I started focusing more on making positive changes to my body, rather than the number on the scale, it was CRAZY how quickly I was losing weight.
    But it wasn't just about losing weight anymore. I could see my body toning up and gaining muscle. Every time I would go for a run, my body felt stronger. I became more driven, more positive, and most importantly, more encouraging/loving towards myself!! Now, my lifestyle has changed. When I put good, clean food into my body, I feel good. I love knowing every ingredient I feed myself. Working out makes me so energized. When I feel sluggish, I realize it's whenever I haven't had time to go for a run or had too much junk food. Truly when you put your energy and focus into making positive lifestyle changes, the results you want will follow!!

      Hi cn i ask how often did u weigh urself during ur diet?

    • @snowpandalovemusic
      @snowpandalovemusic 7 лет назад +21

      I weighed myself once a week in the beginning; then by the 3rd month, I was weighing myself every few days or so. My diet was mostly fish/chicken, lots and lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, nuts, granola, yogurt, dried fruits, baked potatoes/sweet potatoes. I didn't add sugar/salt/sauces/etc. to flavor my foods, I cut out dairy and simple carbs (rice, bread, noodles, etc.), and never had drinks other then water, green tea, and sometimes fruit smoothies (fresh fruits, a little honey). Also tried to do an 1 - 1.5 hours of exercise 4-6 times a week!
      It sounds like a lot, but if you implement these changes little by little over time, it makes it much easier to build it into your lifestyle and maintain the changes, rather than struggle and end up giving up after a short time.

    I feel like a major reason you're so inspiring is because although you are goals for so many girls: an internet celebrity and incredibly beautiful, successful, etc, you have never not been honest about how you got there. You remind us that theres always highs and lows, and that every single day you still struggle with the same exact things the rest of us do, probably even more. You're humble and down to earth and in touch with your humanity and it always rings true in your videos. I really appreciate what it does for me and all the people that watch your content[':

    I just had a major leg surgery to try and correct my knee which keeps dislocating. I've had surgery before and my horrible knee has massively restricted the physical activity I feel comfortable and safe doing. I've found a motivation to get stronger, fitter, and more stable in my last surgery - they had to use a donor's ligaments to reconstruct some of the knee. I don't want somebody to have donated their body to helping others just for me to then be lazy and let my body stay weak and fragile. I'll get myself healthy to honour the incredible person who chose to be a donor 💖💪

    what I did when I unintentionaly lost my weight last year was because I was drinking lemon infused water all the time. I love lemon so much that I made a lot of lemon infused water and I would drink 3~5 bottle of it (the bottle is 1litre). I was just drinking it because it was that period of time I really want to have it, I wasn't even thinking to diet etc. but after 4 weeks or so I lost 3 kg😆

    Another tip is to only do 20-40 minutes of cardio if your goal is to gain muscle! Once you go over 40 minutes, you start burning fat and muscle. If you just want to lose weight, it doesn't matter. Also you should also do cardio after weightlifting. Again, if your goal is to only lose weight, then you can do cardio whenever.

    • @user-xm6cl4jz5o
      @user-xm6cl4jz5o 7 лет назад +1

      Jessica Kim hi what are the best cardio exercises? I am trying to lose weight not gain muscle. I gain muscle mass so easily. I feel like even if I gain muscle, my fat is still there and it makes me look bigger. Exercising makes me gain weight ;/ I am so much heavier when I am muscly.
      And my legs get chunky

    • @jessicajiho
      @jessicajiho 7 лет назад +1

      Exercising does make you gain weight, but it isn't fat. Muscle weighs more than fat does and having muscles also burns more calories. It's proven that swimming and HIIT cardio burns the most calories. You would need to eat at a caloric deficit and do moderate cardio. And are you sure that it's muscle and not fat? There's actually two different types of fat (soft and hard) so people often mistake the hard fat as muscle.

      From someone who started her fitness journey around the same age I'd say start slow. Don't work out so hard you can barely walk the next day. Give your body time to get used to the exercise. The first week will be hard, but you should be able to still breathe without being in pain. I actually worked out so hard I had to see a doctor for my joints. Obviously not trying to tell you what to do haha just some suggestions. Good luck and lots lots lots of health for you!

      I’m 17 I used to weigh about 190 to almost 200, and the doctor said I was overweight, but I wasn’t that bad because I was about 6 feet tall. But I lost weight and cut down to 170 by just eating healthy foods and taking small walk everyday/stretching. The foods I was mainly eating was less carbs and more veggies/protein. But also remember to be active everyday, now I take training more seriously. Mon-sat I would train and take Sundays off, but if you’re starting new to fitness just play sports or walk daily.

    Hara Hachi Bu :) Okinawans use it as a verbal reminder to only eat when 80% full! It's talked about in The Blue Zones book by Dan Buettner Highly recommend!

      Pamela Yeah, haha. My grandma always used to say that to me when I was little. And after I moved to America, I gained so much weight. And when I went back to Okinawa she told me to only eat until I'm 80% full and savor my food. I lost 10 pounds in a month. Haha. It really makes a difference.

    this video gives me lots of motivation! how do you get around feeling awkward at the gym and not knowing what equipment to use or how to use it. I think im someone who gets shy going to the gym >.

    • @xCandyxo
      @xCandyxo 7 лет назад +4

      jene4train when you first sign up at my fitness gym, you get 3 1hr sessions with a trainer and they can set you up with a starter workout routine and teach you the machinery so look into that! There should be instructional posters around the machinery (don't be embarrassed, doing the workout properly is priority), maybe make notes of equipment you see other people using and Google it so you can try it next time (: don't fluster yourself to know everything at once, learning a machine or two per week is just fine. Don't forget to warmup beforehand and stretch afterwards!

      You'll definitely feel self conscious the first couple of times going to the gym, but don't let that demotivate you. Just do your research, find a workout plan and go from there! If you're unsure about something just ask, I think most people would be happy to help you around. Everybody has to start somewhere

      I'm SO glad you mentioned that, because I'm a small framed person as well, so when I was 125 (due to medications), people thought I was pregnant. My natural weight was always 105ish, which people consider "underweight" by whatever standard they base that on.

    My biggest and most successful realization when it came to my health and working out was accepting my body for the way it is. I don't mean not doing anything, I mean my body type and the way I carry weight. I used to idolize body-types that realistically I would never be able to achieve. I always hated my back, my arms, my shoulders, because I have a wider frame than someone like Jenn. I look a lot bigger in pictures with people who actually weight more than me, but have smaller shoulders, back, and chest than I do. I carry a lot of my weight up top, in my stomach and back, rather than my hips, butt, and thighs. And I also have super skinny calves (Jenn I know you talked about how you've felt self conscious about your calves before but I would love to have yours! It's always greener, right?) So, after I made this realization and accepted my body-type for what it was I was able to adjust my workouts and feel so much better about myself. I started idolizing more muscular people, like cross-fitters (although I never did cross-fit), and I joined the rowing team in college. I did a lot more strength training and a lot less cardio (but I worked in cardio by keeping my workouts high intensity). Despite all of this, I didn't get "bulky" (the dreaded word that a lot of women are afraid of when they start strength training) and I actually slimmed down a lot. I lost a lot of weight in my breasts too, which was pretty great while it lasted. Now that my novel is over, that's my advice, find peace in your body and body type and then go from there :)

    The things that use to stop me was clothing: I always thought it was a waste of money and clothing to throw out the ones that didn't fit and buy new clothes. And sometimes when you donate clothing, it doesn't go anywhere or something.

      Yes, 80% of your stomach, because when you 'feel' 80% full, you are actually 100% full, since your brain takes 20 minutes more to register it's full! (Confusing) :D It feels so satisfying when you get it right. :) Eating with chopsticks also makes you eat slower and concentrate on your food so you will feel full. :)

    This video really opened my eyes. I have really bad back pains and I’m not able to work out for a few weeks until my doctor allows me to do so. I’m so sad because of it and bored that I snack on everything that I have at home and that it’s starting to affect my mood and my body weight.
    Only after this video I realized that I need to start looking after my physical and mental health a lot more by eating healthier, otherwise I’ll stay in this vicious cycle forever and it’s gonna take me years to recover from both things.
    Also, you said something that’s really important, and it’s to find a deeper reason to become healthier. My reason is because I just simply want to be happier. I don’t want my mood to affect the way I live or my relationship with other people. I don’t want my loved ones to have to deal with my mental state. I don’t want to have to deal with it myself.
    So thank you very very much for the message that you gave us, and sorry for any mistake while writing, English isn’t my first language 😊❤️

    After all is said and done, as long as you're in a caloric deficit you'll lose weight. It's that simple. People tend to over complicate with a ton of "strategies", but being in a caloric deficit is really all it takes. Now, if you're at your ideal weight and are looking to get leaner and build muscle, then you'll have to do more.

      I think most people know that, just that people give up pretty quick. It's not just eating less it's also eating more complex carbohydrates instead of simple sugars. Most people are taught that fat makes them fat not that sugar also makes them fat. It really comes down to nutrition education and willpower

      Calories aren't everything. If you're consuming fewer calories but have a high carb or fat intake, that definitely won't help. We need to encourage people not to just starve themselves to love weight but rather to pay attention to the ingredients and learn what everything means. It's really not that difficult to learn the basics.
