    I've revived a couple of boats. Mostly because I couldn't afford a new one. Also the new ones don't have the class the old ones do.First was a 25' woody, second was a 32' cris craft, last was a aluminum 37'. When you're done, you will look back, and all the problems, work, skinned knuckles and the frustration will be worth it. You'll go out on your tender and look at your boat anchored in a pretty bay and burst with pride. I'm a senior now and just watch you young folks aquiring your dreams.

    Gemma is a trooper she really is, not only has she had to put up with her rear end filmed for our entertainment, but a couple of videos ago I had to feel sorry for her while helping Simon hold down wood to be cut by sitting on it, those vibrations where terrible for her to endure, but she managed to smile though being very uncomfortable, without complaint, what a saint, 😂

You guys are the light at the end of the tunnel! I look forward to seeing the completed dream that you both have. Hopefully one day I may be able to travel across the pond and see your beautiful Country. Pigeon Forge Tennessee here, home of Dolly Parton and The Great Smoky Mountains! Hopefully one day you guys may be able to come to our neck of the woods and see what Tennessee has to offer. Thanks for taking us along with you on your journey!

    Fabulous! Doesn't matter that one day all the nails will be covered over, YOU WILL KNOW THEY ARE THERE!
    Idea for the nail pincers to get the right standoff. Instead of using a washer every time, weld a piece of metal to each half of the pincers on the outside end to the required standoff distance. When you put the pincers against the wood the jaws will be the right distance away every time.

    • @alstonofalltrades3142
      @alstonofalltrades3142 2 года назад

      It would work but tools like this are usually heat treated at a specific temperature for a set time so the steel is hardened. welding and ginding will undo that. Fortunately I learned this from someone just before I was going to use a grinder to re sharpen a chisel lol

    Tape the spacer washers to one of the cutters jaws, you can use a piece of tape on the other jaw with a strip of craft paper where it slides over the washer so it doesn't pull off when removing it after a cut. Less 'fumbling' around with jobs that can take three hands. Should get you down to less than a minute a rove! Those 'Dutchmen' you glued into the notches will return Sarinda's ribs to her youthful strength, nice work! 😁

  • @stephenrouse2233
    @stephenrouse2233 2 года назад +4

    The copper will oxidise and turn dull green eventually so whilst it looks great now you may be making more work than is necessary because they won’t stay shiny. But whilst they are they look great. And just as I uploaded my thoughts you mentioned “clear coating” the copper so they stay shiny. Brilliant!🤓🤓

      I got rid of a copper mug for this reason, even dipped it in citric acid container for an hour to clean it without lots of scrubbing and it came out, well, shiny but still patchy instead of dull and patchy. Maybe someone knows of a clear lacquer to put on them.

    This may seem strange but. The palm thing that hurts your hand. You can’t use padding to protect your hand, (well, you can but that would reduce the effectiveness and make it slower.) but you can spread the load. So, how about attaching some sort of bar or plate, so you can get both hands on it, to halve the strain. Or, OR, attach an extension so you can lean your torso against it, to reduce the load/strain even further. (Wish I was genned up enough to attach diagrams.)

    Gemma, Simon. It's good to see a plan coming together and your little ditty was good. Isn't there an old song " I'm a rover" or is it Drover??????
    I worked as an inspector on construction sites and as I wear prescription glasses had problems with steaming up and focusing while wearing plastic overglasses. So the company paid for prescription safety glasses, over time I used Boots and Specsavers, Boots were the better pair and lasted longest. The lenses are toughened and they have side shields. It saves all that putting on and off and possible damaging your own glasses.
    Paint over the roves or your going to add hours of work to your refit. Plus I think it looks OTT.

    Maybe for a more heavy duty rove polisher upper, what about a wire brush similar to the small Dremel brush, but one that would go into a drill, again only as large as the rove.
    Slip the brush into a short piece of pipe that’s also only the side of the rove.
    Use the pipe as a guide, and work the brush in and out. This way you can ensure that the paint on the stringers or frame doesn’t get damaged😎

    Just paint them all. It is alot of extra work and in the future you cover the walls most likely when you create various rooms in this part of the ship.

    wow!, great effort guys. I didnt have the heart to tell Jemma that the inner cladding would hide her roves but hey, exposed beams is a thing isn't it? Happy New Year to you all from our aussie home.

    You can paint the back sides of stringers with a small paint roller.

    Re your pump. With a decently weighted filter basket and a decent nozzle you have a twofer. Emergency salvage pump and emergency fire pump

    I looked up hard workers in the dictionary and your pictures were there. You got a lot of heart folks. I am starting to believe you will wind up with a beautiful yacht at the finish. Good fortune in the New Year and can't wait to see the voyages you make.

    This may be a stupid suggestion but couldn't you use like a snowshoe covered in a bin bag or maybe some kind of disk shaped object tied to your wellies to stop sinking into the mud? Not sure it would work but if not maybe the suggestion was worth a chuckle.

    You might try to get a pair of padded mechanics gloves to help with the palm nailer. They really help dampen vibration and impact and aren't too expensive at all.

    I've volunteered with people who got COPD without smoking due to the industry they worked in before retirement/sick pay, it's no fun. A quick search for breathing in sanded dried epoxy dust proves that it is not good. Now I've busted your balls along with bunch of other health and safety posters I'm going to plagiarize your Fun Prevention Officer to everyone who comes at looking to stop my fun in future hehe. Hypicritical of me yes. Accurate information is good. what risks you take after it, well you'd never do anything at all if you avoided risk. crossing the road, taking medication, and other people are more comfortable with some risks than others.
    Great work as always, you're really motoring along with the ribs and stringers now. I think a race between you and the pro's would be very close.

    Simon, I think you need to keep a close eye on Gemma, I think she's fallen off her trolley, (In the nicest possible way, I can understand that when cleaned up they look shiny and nice but how much work are you making for yourselves, lol just for the next couple of weeks, don't let her have any shape tools Lol, love you both keep up the good work.
