Thanks for checking this out Nook! It's wild because there are many more than the ones shown here. I could easily do another one hundred (not sure if I could hit 300 total but definitely 200 and a bit).
@@RasLion Yeah, what boggles my mind is how even though there are oodles of physical shmups, the amount of digital ones are off the charts by comparison.
I remember when the wii virtual console was like the only way to play Gleylancer and how exciting that was. Now is a very good time if you like shmups and own a Switch.
Hey man, thanks for watching this! I didn't even know what shmups were until 2018 and it's been a riveting journey seeing how explosive the Switch is with this genre. As for Gleylancer, I'd like to actually get around to playing that at some point. Doing this project has been a refreshing reminder of how many great titles are at my fingertips even though I haven't been prioritizing variety these days.
Well, since Nintendo can’t seem to make a shmup genre for these games to live in all by themselves, I would love a list of names for these games. Even if it’s just in the description and it’s out of order. Without the name to search, some of them will never be found. Love the video, though!
Yeah man, I'm still astonished Nintendo hasn't put arcade shooters into a category - even if some of the lines were blurred, at least people would have access to the bulk of the games and some questionable ones that may or may not fit the category best. I'll put the list in the description either today or tomorrow so everyone can see what the games are. Thanks for checking this out!
@@Shmuptopia Thanks! I picked out Crisis Wing, Dragon Blaze and Layer Section from stuff around them in the description to have a proper look at. I like this speed dating approach to finding new stuff!
84 if I didn't lose track halfway through! Granted, I haven't played all of those or remember every name, but kind of know them. Some thanks to channels like yours! :D (like that GB-style game you loved, "Strikers something") Btw, what game is shown at 0:46? It reminds me of that shmup inside a Zelda-like game, but I don't think it's that one. PS. Great idea for a video. But now I want to play so many shmups at once!! Aaaahhhhhhhhh!!!! XD
Solid! 84 is pretty high. I think you're referring to Bridge Strike at 0:46, the one where the boats are being gunned down by the jet. And the GB style one is Thunder Striker - I really enjoy that game and the dev is working on a horizontal one which will be cool! Thanks for checking this out SPM! And I know what you mean, jumping into some of these for a few minutes each was insane and now I want to clear a ton of then haha
@@Shmuptopia Thanks! I was hoping that the zoom effect wouldn't be mandatory or at least not as frequent though! Idk if I can deal with that. It's hard to remember all these names with similar words hehe! And yeah, the urge to clear a bunch of them is real!!
@@MPSTG_brb The zoom certainly takes getting used to. As for playing, the game that stood out the most for me was Blazing Star. It's got such a great look and feel. The stage 1 boss alone sets a standard!
Hey, Gavin - great question! That's a pretty tricky one. If someone's put together a list, I'm not sure where it is. With hundreds of shmups on Switch at this point, it'd be pretty wild gathering that info or checking each game. Congrats on the vertical screen though! It's been a while since I've played a Cave shmup but I wouldn't be surprised if those had state. Psyvariar Delta might, pretty sure Crimzon Clover does too. Danmaku Unlimited 3 comes to mind as well.
@@Shmuptopia Thanks! I've been working on Ikaruga but although I really enjoy shmups I think I may not be that good at them. I see you have alot of 1cc videos how do you play? with an arcade stick or d-pad?
@@jasp2003 Ikaruga is serious business so congratulations on tackling that one! To be honest, I would’t focus on whether or not you’re good at these games. They are designed to be exceedingly challenging and we all need to start somewhere on our journey of progression. If you keep enjoying them and commit to learning and improving, you’ll be better in no time. For what controller type I use - it depends on the game. For retro shmups, I often use dpad. Otherwise I use arcade stick. Let me know if you have any other questions about anything controllers or shmups and I’ll see what I can do to help!
If I'm not mistaken, it's called Overdriven. And please excuse my delayed response - I didn't receive a notification you had commented!! Thanks for dropping by Cortney!
For those wondering, I'll add the games list to the description either today or tomorrow!
Absolute feast for the eyes, dude!!
Thanks for swinging by bro! Stoked for sharing the boss one in a day or two!
Really had no clue this many Shmups were available. I'll be adding many to my Switch wishlist! TY.

I saw what looked to a donpachi game, and wouldn't you know it, it was Crimzon Clover. A love letter to Cave for sure.
An absolute masterpiece for sure!

If it's the gameboy-looking one you're referring to, that's Pig Ship and the Giant Wolf.
