Keep going! I like your vlogs because they are anthropological and positive. Thank you for stepping back and sharing some of your challenges and vulnerabilities. I’m a future PCV so I can’t offer my experience but I’m grateful you share yours. I’m leaving in February and I’ve checked out a little bit from my life at home because I’m so excited for PC. This reminded me to be present, wherever I am.
These videos have honestly been a lifesaver for me. I'm finishing up medical clearance for a SAS position in Benin leaving in June. The first time I applied (and was denied) I interviewed for an an AGFO position in Guinea. It's a little bittersweet seeing the amazing country I missed out on, but I'm so looking forward to what my future country has to show and teach me. Every time my current office job starts to wear on me I put on one of your videos and remind myself that change is coming. Thank you for showing not only your high points, but your low as well. It helps us watching you to keep a realistic view on the journey, and I'm sure I'll continue to reflect back on them during my own future hardships. Your filming is also absolutely surperb, I love watching artists bring their craft to all of the unique places life takes us. Especially one that takes so much effort to execute upon. Bravo, and thank you.
Congrants on getting a position in Benin! You'll have a great experience there. Don't worry too much on missing out on Guinea, I love the country but travel is so difficult here. I think you'll have an easier time in Benin! Yes, service is continuous reflection. Celebrate the small victories and that'll get you through.
Wow! This really resonated with me, I have experienced a lot of ups and downs during my service and have been in a slump just the last week or so as well. I appreciate that you ended on a positive note with your hopes for the future. I have the tendency to dwell in the challenges and lose sight of what it really means to serve. Also wanted to say that, as usual, the video was gorgeous and so well made! I am looking forward to your short films 😍🙏👏
It's so easy to dwell in the challenges when they're all around us...Like I said, I try to put on a happy face in my videos but this is not my experience over half of the time. Just gotta push through and celebrate those little victories, though! Good luck!
Power through the hard times! I understand that things can get rough, but it seems like your making a positive impact on both your students and your community! I'm currently being considered for a TEFL position in Zambia, and it has been beneficial seeing and learning from your personal experiences. I'm excited to see these short films you refer to! Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you for the words of encouragement! Good luck on Zambia, I've heard good things, and I'm glad to hear the videos have been helpful. Expect more in the future, including those short films!
I lived in the northernmost region in Ghana by myself. My first few months were an abject failure. I’d teach and many times at the end of the lesson a student would raise her hand and tell me, “Madam, we didn’t hear you.” I had prepared and taught a lesson which my students didn’t understand because they couldn’t understand my English. It happened often enough despite my efforts to slow down and enunciate. I was depressed because of this, and of having no one to talk to about it didn’t help. I’d write letters and pour out my feelings but then I’d tear up the letters. I decided if things didn’t change by Christmas, I’d leave. Well, I didn’t leave. My students began to understand me, and Bolga felt like home. My next year and a half had some low points, but I got through them. I didn’t just survive. I thrived. Hope this helps a bit.
This does help, thank you! I relate to a lot of what you describe here. It's good to hear that other people feel the same way-we're not alone in how we feel!

Thanks for the kind words! Congrats on your Peace Corps acceptance :)
