Great video guys for the beginners. You touched on it slightly but the Twist is the best bet due to it matching up well with lane conditions that would most likely be played on by beginners (as opposed to sport and challenge shots).
First ball overall was an Ebonite Maxim (plastic ball). I bowled varsity in HS with it and got more than a few 200+ games with that alone. First reactive was an Ebonite Ice. Our house lanes were old school wood, and considered the toughest lanes in the conference to shoot on.
My first ball was a purple Brunswick Rhino pro. I began my no-thumb style delivery with this ball in the late 90's. My all time high score of 267 is with this ball and still stands today.
@@jasonkelly623 I think you have me confused with someone else by the same name. I don't hold any records that I'm aware of. But thanks for reaching out.
First resin ball was a Brunswick Attitude 2. LOVED that ball, shot my first 250 game and 670 set with it. Was way more controllable than what is out now. Something I want to see make a comeback is Particle coverstocks. I had an Ebonite XXXCel and it hooked on EVERYTHING. There was one night in league where there was 10 more feet of oil than usual (an INSANE 55' instead of the usual 45' for house shots) and the 220+ average guys all struggled to shoot 500s. I shot a 640 or so with the XXXCel.
Particle balls really dug into the lane and hooked a lot! The downside is that they cracked way more often than traditional reactive resin balls. A lot of the newer Hammer balls have carbon fibre built into the coverstock, which somewhat replicates what particle balls used to do, but are far less likely to crack.
My first reactive ball was a storm soniq I absolutely love that ball when the lanes start to really wear down still get consistent reaction from it to this day
This is a great video for beginners to see. This similar advice from my local pro helped me learn. My first reactive ball was a Hammer Taboo Jet Black. I miss that ball, it was a beautiful strike ball once I learned to control it.
I'm 68 years old. My first ball, at the age of 12 (1966), was a rubber 10 lb. Ebonite Gold Dot - purchased by my parents at the recommendation of the alley's resident pro, who didn't believe in that newfangled plastic. I averaged in the 150s. I just tried to throw the ball as straight as possible. The kids today are SO much better.
Thanks for the information of ball selection, it's very useful to me to understand type bowling ball in between. My younger son would like to try bowling so your video is very helpful for him.
My first reactive ball: Ebonite Rhino I actually just chose this ball b/c it looked the coolest on the shelf. Not till a year later did I learn this ball was actually a good choice for my first ball.
Just got my first, a urethane ball. Thanks for affirming my choice. With some research and decussions with a few bowlers I determined that the way and speed which I throw a 16 lb ball. Urethane was the best option. 2 thumbs up
Bought my first bowling ball 3 days ago. It just so happens that my first bowling ball is the Brunswick Twist in the same color scheme that you used in this video! Love it so far
I've got my eyes on getting that one as well in the same color scheme! So how do you like it so far? If I wanted to throw a ball with hook, I would get the Motiv Pride, but I'm a straight bowler. Also looked at the Motiv Laser Sniper for a spare ball or Viz a Ball with your own design.
My first reactive was a Columbia Beast. Great video too. I had the older brother to the Twist years ago(Slingshot). Only ball I ever threw 300 with. It unfortunately cracked. Hopefully the Twist will be just as good.
Just starting to get more actively into bowling. I'd been using a 10lb Ebonite Gyro Magnum plastic I picked up somewhere around 10 yrs ago. I just swapped it out for a 14lb Vapor Zone Hybrid as my first reactive ball.
My first BRAND NEW reactive bowling ball is the 14 lb Brunswick Twist in the purple and red color scheme from the Orleans Pro Shop recommendation and can't wait to try her out! Great content very thorough, thank you!
My first reactive that I bought new was my ghost pearl, I have the black and red black widow pearl as well but it was a hand me down from my old shop teacher from high school
My first bowling ball was actually a Tzone purple spare ball, i wasnt that knowledgeable into the game later i got my first reactive ball which was a tropical breeze red/black which was a very good choice for me..later as i got serious abt the game i turned into a two handed player and now use the Pitch black urethane which is a very good ball for me as i have very strong arms so i tend to blast the ball into the lane and the pitch black gives me that forgiveness' with my back end to reach the pocket in the right timing while playing on the outside part of the lane
Absolutely excellent video. Exactly what I was looking for, that covered everything I needed to know to by 4 different balls for different bowlers. Thanks for bringing me current from my 80s bowling days!
How do you like it so far? I've been wanting to get that exact one as shown in the video-the Lavender and Lime Brunswick Twist, but was previously concerned that it might hook and I'm a straight shooter with no plans on playing a hooking game.
Thanks for this. I just ordered my first ball through my local pro shop, and went with the twist in blue ad silver. Just joined my work bowling league and decided to get my own ball as opposed to using house balls every week. Was looking originally at the Rhino but after talking with the guy in the pro shop, decided on the twist. This is my first league I joined. Before this, the last time I bowled was before COVID, and just recreationally once every couple months
I just recently got into bowling with some friends and bought my first ball about 2 weeks ago. I actually got two though. The Columbia 300 The Beast and the Storm Ice. I think they make a good combo for someone like me who just bowls recreationally and I just got my PR yesterday at 259.
First ball (back from a 15 year hiatus) Pyramid enchanted path. Already works great for spares, just need to "buy more hook" as you stated. This video really made so much sense to me the way you explained everything. Thank you!
Great video! Bought my first ball in December 2020 a 900Global Aspect (used from the pro shop.) Next was a Storm Axiom Pearl. I think A lower end ball would do me better. Maybe time to add a twist!
My first reactive ball was the Storm Virtual Gravity Nano. I had zero idea why I wanted the ball other than everyone said it was powerful. Had no idea what I got myself into! Totally agree with your video, for most dry and blocked house shots, even for experienced higher avg league bowlers, the Twist is a very powerful tool. Really you don't need much more ball than it.
I am a little late to the party, but my family and I have been doing a lot of weekend bowling in our home town with the house balls. We have been bowling for about a year now and are looking to get our own balls now. Thank you so much for helping point us in good direction.
Very helpful, I'm getting ready to buy my first reactive ball. I've been throwing a urethane ball with limited success for about a year now since I picked the game back up after a long layoff. I fall into the senior category so I'm sure the lower ball speed is a factor. I can throw it pretty straight so I think it's going to become my spare ball. Thanks!
I'm in the same category. Started using a Purple Hamner Reactive, pin up. Works great. I adjust my hand to the oil shot for league. It's also my goto spare ball. I bowl slow as it's all the body will allow these days.
My first reactive ball was and is currently the Roto Grip Hyped Pearl blue-black. I believe this ball for me when starting bowling had a really strong back end hook, making it quite the challenge, but I learned and adapted and have become quite comfortable with it. I would not recommend it to beginners and to start with something with a little lower hook potential. Good luck!
I actually got a halo vision from a friend as my very first ball, as you can imagine it was really hard to adjust to it because of the really aggressive hook but once I got it down it was all strikes from there
Hammer Arson High Flare Pearl was my first. I had no idea what I was getting... didn’t even know anything about reactive resin. I just bowled on occasion for fun and wanted my own ball. Then I learned how to throw the ball with a hook and never looked back.
First reactive was the Columbia Beast 25 years ago. The life hit. Getting back into it and I went with the Twist as my first ball back in the game. Very happy with it. Added a Tzone to simplify spares and exercise. Think I'm good for a while. What might be a next ball to add to the bag?
My first ball is storm tropical storm. I just got a plastic ball for spares. On Saturday I went and had a lesson, learned two handed. 🤞 League tomorrow night
This is super informative. Before I was just going with how it felt. Now I understand the difference between my AMF Sumo (urethane) and my Pyramid Path Rising (reactive). I got super into bowling in 2017 but stopped around 2018. Best PR is 237 with an average of 130-150. Thinking of getting back into it now.
I was in a youth league and when I graduated I couldn't joing the adult league where I lived because it interfered with church times. I'm now getting back into it like 6 years later and I didn't realize how much I missed bowling. Try to drag a friend with you and just start going to bowl a couple games a week. Good luck :)
I’m in a school league and I’m bowling 200 average with house balls and I just realized that I should probably get my own ball after three years of bowling in high school
My first was a gifted dv8 endless nightmare. It was great till I moved and it ended up cracked. Just bought the twist to replace it since I'm getting back in!
My first reactive bowling ball is a Columbia 300 Freeze 12 pound ($142). I just bought a Radical innovator 14 pound and love the Innovator. Worth every bit of the $243 I had it drilled for. I also just got a Columbia 300 WD Patriot 14 pound to go with the other 2 as a spare ball ($105). If you are a beginner, like me, then pay attention to this video. Urethane will be the next to go into the collection.
My first was the red and purple twist. But the ball was drilled completely wrong for my span, finger size, and pap. Gave up on the twist, but thinking I should retry it for dry lane ball
Over 10 years ago I started with plastic. Then I got a tropical heat!!! They don’t even make them anymore. I agree beginners should use entry level reactive like twist or tropical surge or whatever it is
I am an adult beginner and my first bowling ball is the Brunswick Twist. I wanted it because it is affordable and has a low hook potential, so I will be able to practice hooks with it and keep it as a spare ball in the future. Been bowling a couple months.
I recently bought my first ball a hammer raw hybrid it hooks more then a house ball for sure and having a ball fitted to your hand is night and day from a house ball
started bowling 1 year ago. If we are going with reactive and not urethane [pitch purple] i bought the pyramid blood moon and the storm omega crux at the same time. I have moved onto motive since they have been proven to be super durable to me compared to storm and roto grip. Game 15 with idol synergy and finger holes cracked XD. Game 50 with iq tour emerald, the pin guard came down and it grinded up the track DX. I've hit the pin guard before harder when it came down on accident on my motive balls, only a few scratches but it didn't grind up the track.
My first ever bowling ball is the Twist, and I can't wait to use it!
Great video guys for the beginners. You touched on it slightly but the Twist is the best bet due to it matching up well with lane conditions that would most likely be played on by beginners (as opposed to sport and challenge shots).

I started bowling 1 year ago
niccee how isit now going?
My first ball was a purple Brunswick Rhino pro. I began my no-thumb style delivery with this ball in the late 90's. My all time high score of 267 is with this ball and still stands today.
I have a black one I've had forever and a pearlized gray rhino also had forever
hey @Don Huges, i noticed your name because you hold the house record at my local lanes. Congrats man!!
@@jasonkelly623 I think you have me confused with someone else by the same name. I don't hold any records that I'm aware of. But thanks for reaching out.
@@donhughes9743 i will have to take a pic of it then! next time i go!
Edit it may randomly be ironic that your name would be spelled the same
Pushing 70 years old. Just got a twist. I also have a Hydra. The twist helps me as I just can't get the speed. Brandon did a great job presenting.
I bought my first ball today and it was the lime twist bought it right after I watched this video
How did you like it
First resin ball was a Brunswick Attitude 2. LOVED that ball, shot my first 250 game and 670 set with it. Was way more controllable than what is out now.

My first reactive ball is the hustle pbr that I got two months ago
My first reactive ball was a Tropical Storm White-Blue. It's a really good ball and I can strongly recomend it for beginners.
My first reactive ball was a Brunswick Mastermind Scholar. Still a ball I put in my tournament bags to this day.
great ball
My first reactive ball was a storm soniq I absolutely love that ball when the lanes start to really wear down still get consistent reaction from it to this day
GREAT VIDEO! Very helpful for a guy just getting in the game. Best video on RUclips for a beginner bowler
This is a great video for beginners to see. This similar advice from my local pro helped me learn.
My first reactive ball was a Hammer Taboo Jet Black. I miss that ball, it was a beautiful strike ball once I learned to control it.
First Reactive Ball was the Electrify Pearl from Storm, it was also the ball I shot my first 200 game with
Nice, my first reactive ball is a storm tropical surge. Shot my first 200 game about two weeks ago with it. Great entry level ball
Shot 226 today with tropical surge
Actually got the Brunswick Twist as my first ball last year.
Bought a Rhino as my first reactive ball last year. Even though I now have some higher performance balls, I still like to throw it on occasion.
Brandon is an excellent presenter ! I love watching his vids, even though I don’t throw Brunswick balls
what do you throw then
I'm 68 years old. My first ball, at the age of 12 (1966), was a rubber 10 lb. Ebonite Gold Dot - purchased by my parents at the recommendation of the alley's resident pro, who didn't believe in that newfangled plastic.

My first reactive bowling ball was the Ebonite Nirto/R. I also had the Beast and gold Pearl Rhino later on. Good memories…
My first reactive ball:
Ebonite Rhino
I actually just chose this ball b/c it looked the coolest on the shelf. Not till a year later did I learn this ball was actually a good choice for my first ball.
@Orangebear 831 *Brunswick* Rhino, not Ebonite. But yes, great bowling ball.
Meanwhile a 16 year old kid with a 5 dollar plastic ball from a yard sale shows up and bowls back to back 260 plus.
Or a house bowler using a😮 plastic Widow has the best average in the local league.
Just got my first, a urethane ball. Thanks for affirming my choice. With some research and decussions with a few bowlers I determined that the way and speed which I throw a 16 lb ball. Urethane was the best option. 2 thumbs up

First reactive ball - Tropical Storm - blue/green
Second reactive ball - Black Widow 1.0 - solid black
Loved them both.
Tropical storm really did me well when I was a young lad. Laid down the fundamental to start laying the big hook down when I got older
Black widow was just giving to me.....imma try it out!!!!
I bought a hammer pearl and solid nova in the mid 90’s. Have a twist in my bag for controlling the lane As my weakest piece!
My first ball was a used Storm Phase II. Love it!
Excellent tutorial. Great explanation on what's the best ball for most people. The Brunswick Twist looks like a great ball for most beginners.
My first ball was a Brunswick zone plastic ball and my first reactive ball was an Ebonite Sea Foam Tornado
Just started league bowling for a summer mixed league and I got the twist for my first ball.
My first reactive was a Columbia Beast. Great video too. I had the older brother to the Twist years ago(Slingshot). Only ball I ever threw 300 with. It unfortunately cracked. Hopefully the Twist will be just as good.
Ordered a black/gold twist last week. I'm about to go get it drilled and try it now, this video got me hyped.
My 1st reactivate ball is the ball I still use today. It is my motive villain. Just scored a 266 woth it in league last night

I love the splits and him saying that wasn’t a bad shot going right through the middle.
What a great vid! Brando did a great job. Looks like I'm grabbing a Twist! Thanks
My first ball is a twist! The good silver and black
I’m planning getting a zen. Has the shape I’m looking for, that wide consistent shape and a decently strong backend.
My first reactive that I bought new was my ghost pearl, I have the black and red black widow pearl as well but it was a hand me down from my old shop teacher from high school
Thank You! Well done! Great Presenter sharing very valuable information, details, and excellent demonstrations.
Gonna be that twist thank you for this post much appreciated
Columbia Piranha/C solid was my first new reactive ball.
Just got my first ball. Hammer Black widow pink pearl urethane. First night out got 198. Old high was 176

it's been a decade since I took it half way seriously only owned one ball and nearly forgotten everything I learned. This was immensely helpful.
My wife and I love our new Twist balls.
Blue and silver twist was my first ball
First Reactive was an Ebonite Endure. Severely underrated ball.
Great video! Really well done!
My first bowling ball was a Columbia 300 white dot.
My first reactive resin bowling ball was the Brunswick black rhino!
Great choices! White dot is unbelievable.
Omw to a pro shop now for my first ball! This is exactly the video I was looking for! Insta sub

My first bowling ball is an Columbia 300 Ti Boss ii Pearl Red, I just used it in my first college tournament 5 days ago
I ordered 10 of those when I was 6 years old
I am a little late to the party, but my family and I have been doing a lot of weekend bowling in our home town with the house balls. We have been bowling for about a year now and are looking to get our own balls now. Thank you so much for helping point us in good direction.
My first ball was the OG DV8 Dude. Such a smooth ball that I wish I still had in my arsenal.
Now that was a great ball. Probably in the top 5 balls I have ever thrown
Yeah I still have mine to this day, its absolutely incredible 👌
Very helpful, I'm getting ready to buy my first reactive ball. I've been throwing a urethane ball with limited success for about a year now since I picked the game back up after a long layoff. I'm about to buy a Black Widow Ghost if the pro shop in the next town over has them in stock. 👍. Hope you enjoy your new ball as well!
I'm in the same category. Started using a Purple Hamner Reactive, pin up. Works great. I adjust my hand to the oil shot for league. It's also my goto spare ball. I bowl slow as it's all the body will allow these days.
1st performance ball was a Brunswick Ambush! One under rated piece!!

I started bowling this year and both balls I own are the Brunswick Rhino blue and silver.
My first ball was a Storm Tropical Breeze. :). Love your content guys as always. Hugs from Miami, Florida!
that was my first reactive ball XD wt colors were yours mine were red/black
Hammer Arson High Flare Pearl was my first. I had no idea what I was getting... didn’t even know anything about reactive resin. I just bowled on occasion for fun and wanted my own ball. Then I learned how to throw the ball with a hook and never looked back.

My first reactive was a 900 Global Breakpoint that was given to me after dumbly buying a tzone
My first ball is a Storm Tropical Surge - got it 2 weeks ago and am really enjoying it. Pro shop recommended it and did a great job fitting me.
My first ball is storm tropical storm. I just got a plastic ball for spares.
On Saturday I went and had a lesson, learned two handed.
🤞 League tomorrow night
My first reactive ball was the OG Hy-road. That is still a perfect ball for the beginning bowler.

!QTS was my first bowling ball and is still my favorite all time
Never had a ball yet although I think I’ll get the twist or something extremely similar it fits my style of throwing
100%! Style= grip and pin. RG and DIF support this. Not ball first. Never ball first. If a "pro shop" starts with the ball, walk out, friend.

Great Video again guys, first reactive ball was Ebonite Turbo X .
My first was the red and purple twist. But the ball was drilled completely wrong for my span, finger size, and pap. Gave up on the twist, but thinking I should retry it for dry lane ball
u can plug it up and re drill again it will work just fine it has no effect on the balls playability
Over 10 years ago I started with plastic. Then I got a tropical heat!!! They don’t even make them anymore. I agree beginners should use entry level reactive like twist or tropical surge or whatever it is
My first was a Crux Prime, I was a one hand straight ball thrower but I converted to two hand and have seen nice success because of the ball though.
Thanks for the great review. Super informative

Twist is very close to re-carnation of the 2010 Brunswick Slingshot
Picking my first up tomorrow. Rhino blue silver pearl based off my pro shop recommendation
My first ball was a Storm Hy-Road. Love it, still use it.
My first reactive ball was the IQ Tour Emerald and it’s great still

When got more in to curving, my first one was the ogre. Definitely need to get new ball sometime bc it got it use through years of junior league.
