1.30.19 the church released an announcement that they are uncertain of any archeological proof of the book of Mormon. They attested that they are not concerned with the proof of the book of Mormon, only in its message. That's a hard pill to swallow.

Well that's only the deeper feeling in our spiritual soul that speaks out, otherwise they are as interested in all archaeology is any other archaeologists in the world are..
They do understand that most of the world wants evidence scientific evidence for everything now. Their Scholars are consistently studying I'm gaining more knowledge than most other people about the archaeology of this religion I am a Latter-Day Saint and I believe I understand that so nothing more tours is important that's what the immortal truth is and knowing that we will only have one grain of truth even if we possessed everything possible in this world it's still just two grain your trillions and trillions uncountable truths that we could never find out within one lifetime.
But to feel the sweetness of the Turning spirit in your heart cannot be replaced once we receive that we do have faith and trust in the church in the LDS Church we will leave the archaeology discoveries up to those our Scholars,, for they are our greater minds..........

@Rick McGhee In the March 2019 edition of "Discover Magazine" on page 26, is an article "A Lost World Emerges." The author is Nathaniel Scharping. The article is about a 2016 LIDAR scanning of about 800 square miles around Tikal in northern Guatemala. This is just a fraction of the former Maya territory which spanned thousands of square miles, yet the LIDAR revealed some 60,000 previously unknown structures. So far, the group, led by archaeologist Thomas Garrison, has uncovered other unknown city-states near Tikal with limestone roads running from city to city. Unexpectedly, the group found Maya structures built expressly for defensive warfare. These include ditches, moats, ramparts, high walls, fortresses, and a series of watch towers. Many of these surround or are near the major cities. In one place the group uncovered a mound of sling stones which could have been potential ammo from over 1,000 years ago.
The findings closely match the fortifications Captain Moroni caused to be built, as described in the Book of Mormon in Alma 49-50.

What are you saying 'That's a hard pill to swallow.' Yes, faith can be hard at times, but is necessary to follow God. The more I study the Bible, Book of Mormon, other scriptures, and I really must include ancient and modern writings, the more faith I have. They seem to go hand in hand. But, to get to a level of understanding things about God, faith is required and precedes the act of studying. And, for some, viewing this video is considered an act of study.

@@junekroner6382 I guess growing up Mormon and being told since day 1 that the BOM was based on the Indians of Central America, etc., and know the church is now saying it doesn't really matter, is the hard pill to swallow. I didn't even know that JS "translated" the BOM with a rock in the hat either, or that he had 34 wives and that Emma was the 23rdthat was sealed to him. I don't deem that as faith, I conclude that to be deception.

@@Cryptosifu I've heard that some people think the General Authorities have deceived them over the decades. I've never really known anyone who believes this. I joined the Church when I was 27 years old. I was raised Lutheran. As a Lutheran, I was taught to think independently and find out for myself who God is, what place does the Bible have in my life (ex.: Is it the truly God's word, do I want to read it ) and that Jesus loves me and to be good and kind to others as Jesus is. I was also taught that I can talk to God and he can talk to me in my heart of hearts.
I say this because, I want to explain that I and many, many other protestants were given a foundation of independent thinking and searching for truth. I live in what I've been told is the 'mission field.' I think most of us who were raised protestants and independent from multiple LDS generations, understand that we have to gain knowledge of what is true through more than what a teacher teaches, from more than what our parents taught us. Members of the Church are human, and humans make mistakes. We can get offended by other LDSs, because people make mistakes. We can also let it roll off our backs.
You mention you were deceived. That truly is a 'hard pill to swallow.' I empathize with your feelings that you were deceived. But not concerning the information you mentioned. Maybe, there is comfort in knowing that everyone gets deceived about something at one time or another.
I can refer you to an author who speaks about the variable subjects you mention of this sort members and anti-mormons discuss. But, I don't remember his name right now. I can find out.... If you are interested, I will send you information so you can look him up.

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 42 years. I have a great testimony of the gospel--it's the people I can't stomach from dishonest bishops to the many cliques in wards. No wonder so many people leave the church. Even President Hinckley said that it's the people of the church who cause members to leave. I don't think this is how the Lord intended his true church to be ran, but reality is reality.

I feel your concerns. It pains me to say that what you say here is most definitely true. A culture has been fostered where a lot of members are very difficult to get along with. I think a lot of it is overreaction to the word of God, and His prophets. I have actually met members that would eat meat sparingly (not considering that its way past the exodus from the Eastern United States).

It’s another doctrine altogether and contrary to the word of God. It contradicts who God says He is. God has proven His word, the Holy Bible with prophecies that were thousands of years into the future. Only He knows the end from the beginning and all things in between.Isaiah 46:9-10, 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: He is the Great I AM. Yet, the Mormons are following the doctrine of a man that is less than 200 years old. I left the Mormon church about 3 years ago because it’s teachings are contrary to the words of God himself.

Her conjectures are wrong. Anyone who pays attention while reading the Book of Mormon will know it takes place on both the North and the South continents. The Southern continent was settled first. Hundreds of years later, people began to explore and settle the Northern one. By the end of the history, the final wars are conducted, it would seem, along the East Coast of North America.

This information contains so much speculation . . .
Here are some facts that call into question the historicity of the Book of Mormon:
    1. Never has one coin, sword, shield, cimeter, writing, or any other artifact been connected with the Book of Mormon story.
    2. The Hill Cumorah, where Mormon's last battle was fought, is in New York State, thousands of miles from MesoAmerica. Joseph clearly stated that the known Cumorah is the very place.
    3. Joseph's teachings suggested North America.

What would you know, about the assumptions of the book of Mormon?! Have you read it?!.
We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
      👇
Apostle James Talmage wrote, "...who, in his right mind could for one moment suppose the Bible in its present form to be a perfect guide? Who knows that even one verse of the Bible has escaped pollution." (Divine Authority of the Book of Mormon, p. 47) Joseph Smith himself said, "Many insertions were made, some of them 'slanted' for selfish purposes, while at times deliberate falsifications and fabrications were perpetrated" (As Translated Correctly, p. 4).
The translation of the King James bible was done by people working for king James. The latin Vulgate was done by papal scholars. The Lutheran (German translation) was done by Martin Luther. And so on. Each version of the bible reflected the understanding and biases of the translators. This is why we have to temper our belief with the clause "as far as it is translated correctly."
On top of that the source documents for each of the translations have unverifiable provinances themselves.
Many forget that many portions of The Book of Mormon came in the middle of The Old Testament and before The New Testament.
Why do we even need the book of Mormon when there is the Bible already?
The problem is that the rest of Christianity reads the bible and they can't agree on many points of doctrine, The Book of Mormon is a companion to the Bible that helps clear up some of those points and clarifies others. It helps to put down false doctrines and establish correct ones.

The narrative is complex and can be difficult to follow. The negative comments on this video are coming from non scholarly and incompetent individuals that have not studied or even read the Book of Mormon.

Would have many, Many, MANY external evidences to support it (The said historical book)
Today we can go to Bethany, Bethlehem, Baal-hazor, Capernaum, Damascus, Galilee And many, Many MANY, more places, And find external evidences to support them, (coins, swords, chariots).

Dane Hoover The book of Mormon is the best book on earth we have to help us draw nearer to Jesus Christ. There is a promise at the end of the book that if heeded can change the way anyone looks at this book. It takes Faith.
"And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
This is the essence of my testimony of the Book of Mormon. The Holy Ghost will witness to any honest seeker of truth the validity of the Book of Mormon. It has for millions. It has for me. I absolutely love the Book of Mormon!!

There was a mention of codices from ancient mesoamerican civilizations, do any of these mention Jared or Lehi or Nephi or Laman. Any archaeologist will tell you you cannot completely hide an entire civilization. Even if you erase the names you cannot hide the innovations, the offspring of the animals, the metallurgy or many of the different details that the book of Mormon claims which would have been beneficial to those who destroyed the nephites. Those things simply do not match.
You claim that the languages must have changed over time, and yet the entire book was written in reformed Egyptian which must have been brought with them or developed by the peoples of mesoamerica. Yet, no examples of this are in the codices of mesoamerica.
For the most correct book in history you would expect to find things that just aren't there.

Mars Mahoney You have to experience it to understand. I encourage you to investigate Mormonism with a pure heart and as Christ has taught us to do. He tells us that good fruit comes only from good trees. As you begin asking legitimate questions from reading and studying the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham, you might be inspired at first and think they are true, but as you start asking legitimate questions in the process, members will think that you are an anti-Mormon pretending to be interested. You'll see. The hostility you read and hear about and witness is due to the anger of those caught in the mind cult of Mormonism. I know. I was a victim, and they darned near ruined my life for asking about everything they taught with a presentation based on their own canon of Scripture. You invest your whole life in the Church, believing and bearing false witness that you know the Church is true, and it takes that first legitimate question to have you in the bishop's office being accused of Apostasy just for asking what the Church teaches you to ask. You bet there's a lot of anger and bitterness, and for good reason, but you'll have to see what I mean for yourself.

Scientists now agree with accounts in the Book of Mormon that the Americas were settled by multiple maritime crossings of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans; not by the Siberian Land Bridge only.
A recent discovery (2007) of pre-Colombian chickens in the Americas is one more example of an animal mentioned in the Book of Mormon for which there was no previous evidence.

Why come to Earth to grow if we’re just going to be singing praises to God for eternity anyway? Why didn’t God only create those He knew would obey Him so nobody ended up suffering in Hell? Did God create all the rules that govern eternity? If so, could God create a rule that anyone who breaks a rule can be forgiven if they are sincerely sorry and change? If so, why was Jesus’s sacrifice necessary? What happens to all those who died without ever hearing about Jesus Christ in their lifetime and having a chance to repent of their sins through Him? I'm not a member of the Mormon church , but I am always open to evidence and alternative narrative to that which is officially accepted. This is an interesting documentary and thoroughly informative and compelling. What is interesting and significant is the explosion of stone building that occurs in Meso-America around the time of Nephite expansion, not seen in North America. If official narratives are believed it doesn't explain this huge difference. Meso-America is lush with hard woods, yet stone (as used in Israel and Egypt) is used in the building of most structures. There is such difference in culture between meso-America and North America that official narratives ignore and remain unexplained. A Mormon narrative has interesting points to make in answering these significant differences and oddities.

Hugh Nibley would be distressed at the way his statements have been misused by the Heartland advocates. He was commenting on Nephite fortifications looking more like some Hopewell sites than the massive stone cities of the Inca. And in that he is correct, but that does not necessarily require a connection between the nephites and the Hopewell. A technology such as this type of fortification can spontaneously occur. But if you NEED a connection between nephites and "Heartland" evidence, look no further than the text: Alma 63; Helaman 3. And Yes, Joseph DID know. He wrote or published the Times and Seasons articles describing a Mesoamerican setting. Look at his letter to Bishop Burnhiesle after receiving the books by Stephens and Catherwood. Joseph knew, because Moroni showed him his people and his history and his trials and travels. I know the works and writings of Hugh Nibley, he's a hero of mine....and neither Rob Meldrum or Wayne May are a Hugh Nibley. Nibley would be hurt at the way they have used him to help "sell" their BOM geography theories.

@rocco DeLuca In the March 2019 edition of "Discover Magazine" on page 26, is an article "A Lost World Emerges." The author is Nathaniel Scharping.

This video speaks of evidence. Kindly advise what the evidence you speak of is. What I saw was mere speculation, not evidence. What exactly did I miss? Has the speculation of DNA evidence been discussed or did I miss that? The only reason that people become fluxed, as the brother in the video stated, when looking for evidence, as Mormon Scriptures have always taught us to seek, is because the Book of Mormon has to be false. If the Scriptures are of Christ who said his way is easy, then there should be no concern about people basing their belief in the Book of Mormon on evidence. I have read the Book of Mormon in English numerous times throughout my life, once in Japanese, Spanish, German, and French, have taken the Book of Mormon Challenge, and keep getting the same answer, that the Book of Mormon is false. No matter what language I read it in, they all say the same thing, and they all are in conflict with Mormon practice and doctrine. Now they are in conflict with physical DNA evidence, so my question is why would these brethren tell their audience that we would be discombobulated, if you will, if we rely on actual evidence? Look, I am not "anti-Mormon," but all I want out of Mormonism is to prove what they teach is true. I have witnessed personally why people with genuine intelligence and common sense of a normally prudent person get accused of being anti-Mormon just because they ask questions. When the assumed anti-Mormon presents the case behind his legitimate questions, Mormons get hostile and upset which then reflects upon the behavior of the one asking the question. While this was a very beautifully presented video, I have to admit that it throws in a lot more suspicion on the verity of the Book of Mormon. Bottom line, they are a bunch of liars.

The case is and has always centered around plausibility. Multiple candidates that fit the known facts do not diminish plausibility, they just make the process of identification more difficult. One could cherry pick any individual fact, and find a culture or location that is in harmony with that fact, but finding a culture or location that is in harmony with all the facts is the goal to establish plausibility.
Many have centered around a geographic feature - the narrow neck of land - as the place to start looking for candidates. Another tack is to look for places that have undergone significant geographic change, in accordance with the cataclysm mentioned in 3rd Nephi. The cataclysm is so unfamiliar to us, so outside of our own experience, that it sounds fanciful. Yet there is a strong candidate for that cataclysm. Apoyeque is a volcano in Nicaragua that erupted around the time of Christ's death. It was an order of magnitude greater than Mt. St. Helens. The entire face of Nicaragua was changed, with a large part of the land now covered in water. The Book of Mormon talks about cities being burned, sunken into the sea, or buried under mountains. It also talks about thick darkness covering the land for three days, and the inability to start fires. All of this is in harmony with what we now know of similar sized volcanic eruptions. In 1889 a volcano called Krakatoa erupted in Indonesia with a similar force. The ash blotted out the sunlight for three days in the area. The shape and topography of the island itself was permanently altered. So the question I put to you is this; did some ancient historian describe one of the most terrifying events in human history, or did Joseph Smith just make it up and get incredibly lucky?

    • @robertrosskopf4641
      @robertrosskopf4641 3 года назад

@@brian5128 I have dismissed the heartland model as a possibility. Although it is possible that Nephites established a colony south of the Great Lakes, it is extremely unlikely that the Book of Mormon describes any part of North America. Nephi describes the land as being rich in gold, silver and copper, just after arriving. The Great Lakes area is rich in copper, which has been mined for thousands of years, but lacking in gold or silver. It is also notable that Nephi couldn't have done the survey himself. The time and effort to search for rare ores is substantial. He had to have gone to a previously established marketplace to discover what was available. Bow and arrows were also a recent arrival to North American natives, and were not available in North America at the time of the Book of Mormon. The cities described in the Book of Mormon cannot be found in North America, as North American natives had camps, and these camps were mobile. There were no roads, just trails. The Jaredites, which inhabited the land to the north, were the ones who carved their history on stone. No such histories have ever been found in Canada. They are characteristic of Mexico, and lands farther south. The Hill Cumorah in New York is likely a namesake, as it holds no military advantage. There is no reason to select this hill, one of hundreds of such hills in the area, as the place of final battle, and no reason to believe the enemy would even know where it was. There is no fresh water on the hill, nor is the hill sizeable enough for such a battle. It is made from the debris of a retreating glacier, and not suitable for caves. Much better candidates can be found in Mesoamerica. The Mayan long count appears to be present in the Book of Mormon, and the Mayan system of cycles. The weights and measures used by the Nephites is certainly something one would expect in a large marketplace, and not a small village. The only report of such a system in the Americas is in Mesoamerica, although this is disputed. The Nephites were small in numbers, so there is no reason to assume that the Lamanites or anyone else used this system. It certainly wasn't described by Cortez, when he visited a large marketplace. Chariots likely refers to litters, which to the Hebrew way of thinking was a riding seat. Litters have not be found in North America, but were used by kings and generals for travel in Mexico and lands farther south. The biggest problem with a North American theory, is the relative stability of the geology. There are few earthquakes, and no one could describe the land as broken up in seams and fissures. There are no known volcanic eruptions in recent North American history that could account for the description in 3rd Nephi. There was one in Nicaragua which is the perfect size for such an eruption, and it occurred around the time of Christ.
Personally, I believe finding the volcanic eruption, which would have left behind significant deposits of ash and debri, is a much better starting place than identifying the "narrow neck". Every theory has a narrow neck.

The Book of Mormon has hundreds of corrections, which clearly indicates that no divine origin but very human, even the Book of Mormon today has many contradictions with the Bible, the Mormon leadership possibly correcting anger.
The Bible says in John 20:31 "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name."
and 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teach, to reprove, correcting and training in righteousness, so that may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
these verses teach that the Bible is more than enough because we believe in Jesus Christ ETERNAL LIFE and we are prepared ENTIRELY. (not part says). therefore do not need any more book.

These two professionals have written several books and made several videos on the subject of the Book of Mormon and the Ancient Hopewell Indian Culture. So I need to ask how many books have you written on this subject?
The LDS Church has not, officially, taken a stand as to where the Book of Mormon took place because it stands alone as a another testament of Jesus Christ and contains his true doctrine as a companion to the Bible. The only ignorant people are the ones that open their mouths without thinking of what they're saying.

Duane Watts I've looked into that too. It seemed plausable to me. Recently, I noticed some things I didn't like about that idea. The proponents of it seemed to be capitalizing monetarily on the idea. I didn't like the internal squabling with fellow proponents either, nor the insults passed to archeologists who disagreed with them. Finally, I studied a thorough refutation of the Hopewell land hypothesis, which makes alot more sense to me now. I learned that when a high quality, multi-volume book on the Mayan civiliations was presented to him, Joseph Smith studied it, and wrote in the Times and Seasons, basically identifying the land of the Mayan book portrayed the land of the Book of Mormon. The Hopewell theorists have taken a hard line against this argument. They said that Joseph Smith was either absent, or too busy, to know what his people were printing in the Times and Seasons. Consequently, a thorough study was launched, including a word analysis examination, which showed that it was many orders of magnitude more likely to be Joseph Smith's own word's than anyone elses. In this study, I've learned there are significant arguments against the Hopewell idea. Lack of Gold, Silver, Copper, and Iron in the eastern states. Such was plentiful in the Book of Mormon land and in the west coast of North and South American, and never very plentiful east of the Rocky Mountains. If the ores had played out their would be tell-tale signs of it. There are many other sound arguments against the Hopewell hypothesis. I also disagreed with the unprofessional attitude of the Hopewell advocates when faced with these arguments. They seemed as though it was too personal to them. It was like they were defending their psuedo religious-business operations, rather than an unbiased search for truth. This attitude is similar to attacks seen in forums like this, from people who are overly angry against those who would disagree with them. This bears out to me as unprofessional, mean spirited, and just wrong.

The Book of Mormon text does NOT support the fact that there were other peoples in America, just as it doesn't mention snow, yet you assume the first to be incorrect, and the 2nd to be indicative.
The Book of Mormon says this land was preserved for the righteous and that none could come here expect through the power of god. It also says they filled the land.
Fact first, then conclusion. The other way around is faulty.

The first Journey of Faith video is stronger in terms of definitive places (Nahom and Bountiful) but there are a lot of fascinating parallels presented here and I think gives us a picture of what was really going on for Book of Mormons peoples, cutting through the influence of Joseph Smith's language and mind on the transmission of the text. Curious to see what the next 30 yrs of scholarship will uncover.

David Stoker "the influence of Joseph Smith's language and mind on the transmission of the text"? In normal literary translation, that's what happens: the translator's mind and language influence the way the text comes out, but wasn't Joseph Smith supposed to be divinely inspired and aided (the mystic stones)?

The book of Mormon is the word of God. My eight year old kid knows more about Jesus Christ than all of the narcissistic modern day greed driven preachers. I read the book, prayed about it and received a direct revelation from God telling me it is true. That was 40 years ago and I have no regrets. I need no physical proof because the revelation I received from God trumps everything and is unforgettable. I bear witness to my statement in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints is the only true and living church upon the earth. The book of Mormon is true and truly testifies of Jesus Christ my savior. Any church that does not believe in prophesy is spiritually dead. I found out that the book of Mormon is true by personal revelation through the Holy Ghost. The true church is run by Jesus Christ through a prophet. That is how the lord has always led his people through out the scriptural history.

It is a second witness of Jesus Christ. God will reveal the truth of it to anyone that sincerely reads it and then asks in faith if it is true. That is what I did and my prayer was answered in a remarkable way. I have no doubts about the divinity of the bible, the book of Mormon (another testament of Jesus Christ) and my savior Jesus Christ.

Mormons will always defend mormonism because that is what they follow.
Christians will only ever defend the Word of God because He is the truth and He is who we follow.

Here's 2 Interesting Books, and they are FREE, let me know if you can see the truth anymore, seeing as both of these books were written BEFORE the BOM, and BOTH authors were in the same respectable location of Joseph's Myth, let me summarize the facts for you, Sidney Rigdon and Oliver Cowdry took these two books edited and plagerized the heck out of them. When 116 pages of the "translations" were "lost" by some dude named Marty something or other, they just commence building upon and with the elaborate imaginative stories that Joseph used to tell as a child, trying to recreate the contents. Ironically there's missing pages in Manuscript story/Manuscript Found too...read em they are pretty interesting, Ethan smith sets the stage for The Joseph's Myth IDEA, and he even references Isaiah and Malachi so Joe never had to actually look it up. OH and then theres the book of Abraham your joking me right? I'll add a link to that too. the BOM IS A LIE! YOU HAVE BEEN DECIEVED, AND YOU ARE BRAINWASHED! I don't rant, I research. Table 12 shows the overall distribution of the five Native American haplotypes. Haplotype X was not found while 41% of the individuals were haplotype A" (etd.ohiolink.edu/!etd.send_file?accession=osu1054605467, pg. 84). Again "Halotype X was not found." Haplogroup X "is subdivided into two major branches, here defined as “X1” and “X2.” The first is restricted to the populations of North and East Africa and the Near East, whereas X2 encompasses all X mtDNAs from Europe, western and Central Asia, Siberia, and the great majority of the Near East, as well as some North African samples" (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1180497/).
You can read or look into the study to get more information, but the point that I wanted to focus on was that the Hopewell Indians descended from Asians. Like the majority of Native Americans.

Many of the responses from non-LDS in the comment section are clearly shallow and naive. The idea that these LDS scholars are intentionally deceiving the world or have basic misunderstandings of the disciplines in which they have been credentialed by world-renowned universities is foolish. It reflects the intellectual immaturity of one who cannot grasp or accept that matters are complex enough that intelligent, well-intentioned individuals might truly disagree.
I say that to preface my very strong criticism of the following argument.
At 29:55 and forward, Mark Alan Wright argues that Abinadi's statement in Mosiah 13:12 forbidding making a likeness of things "in the heaven above, the earth beneath, or in the waters under the earth" is a clue into the Mesoamerican context for the Book of Mormon- the Maya also held such a three-tiered cosmology. This is a stunningly bad argument. Here's why. A text in the Book of Mormon can only serve as evidence for an ancient production context if that text reflects features which are present in that context and also absent in Joseph's own specific context. As such, the Mesoamerican specialist must also educate himself about that environment in reasonable detail.
We know that Joseph was deeply molded by the KJV Bible. Its language appears all over the Book of Mormon- whether that reflects a translation choice on the part of Joseph or reflects his role as creator of the Book's content is another matter. Point is, we all agree that it forms part of that background. So how in the world can Mark Wright call Mosiah 13:12 evidence for Maya background with a straight face? It's an *obvious* reference to the Second Commandment:
(Exodus 20:4) "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Abinadi is making a near direct quotation. You don't need to go so far afield to find the production context for that passage in the Book of Mormon. It's staring you in the face in the most famous and well known passage from the Old Testament.

It’s essential to read and understand what
Joseph Smith personally said and wrote about Book of Mormon lands as he's the
only prophet who translated the Book of Mormon records, repeatedly described
the peoples, animals and lands of the Book of Mormon "as if he had lived
there, his entire life," as his mother said. Here are the only facts we
have of Book of Mormon geography: -D&C 28:8 "And now, behold, I say unto you that you [Oliver Cowdery] should go unto the Lamanites and preach
my gospel unto them..." D&C 28:9 "...Behold, I say unto you that
it shall be on the borders by the Lamanites." -Revelation given from Jesus
Christ to the Prophet Joseph Smith, 1830 --D&C 30:6 "...for I have
given unto him power to build up my church among the Lamanites."
Revelation given from Jesus Christ to the Prophet Joseph Smith, 1830 -D&C
32:2 "And that which I have appointed unto him is that he shall go with my
servants, Oliver Cowdery and Peter Whitmer, Jun., into the wilderness among the
Lamanites." -Revelation given from Jesus Christ to the Prophet Joseph
Smith, 1830 -"The Book of Mormon is a record of the forefathers of our
western tribes of Indians... by it we learn that our western tribes of Indians
are descendants from that Joseph that was sold into Egypt, and that the land of
America is a promised land unto them. Personally written and signed by, Joseph
Smith Jun., 1833 Letter written by way of commandment from God to the Rochester
Observer. -"The whole of our journey, in the midst of so large a company
of social honest and sincere men, wandering over the plains of the Nephites,
recounting occasionally the history of the Book of Mormon, roving over the
mounds of that once beloved people of the Lord, picking up their skulls and
bones, as proof of its divine authenticity, and gazing upon a country the
fertility, the splendor and goodness so indescribable, all serve to pass away
time unnoticed. Personally written and signed by the hand of the Prophet Joseph
    Smith, 1834. Joseph Smith personally
received revelation from God to send missionaries, one being the transcriber of
the Book of Mormon plates, to THE Lamanites, even to the border of the
Lamanites, in Missouri. Missionaries were immediately sent to: NY, OH, IN, IL
and MO, as commanded by Jesus Christ, testifying that the Book of Mormon is a
record of their ancestors and established the church there. Joseph Smith never
sent a single missionary to: Mexico, Central or South America, nor did any
Latter-day Saint prophet in over 75 years after the church's founding. Joseph
personally met with and testified of the Book of Mormon to the: Fox and Sac
Algonquin tribes of the Great Lakes, up until a week before his death, whom he
and U.S. national leaders described as Western tribes of Indians, as they were
forced from their lands in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan, to Iowa and
westward. The Lord knows where the Lamanites lived, Joseph Smith knew where
they lived as he personally met with them and testified to them. Besides the plains of: Ohio, Indiana and
Illinois, locations where the Nephites lived, the ancient Nephite city of Manti,
Zelph’s mound, Adam’s alter that Nephites used and the Hill Cumorah, where
Joseph Smith personally testified of each location, we have no knowledge of
exact locations of the Book of Mormon, nor do we need to know their exact
locations but we do know exactly where Book of Mormon lands are, as revealed by
the Lord: Missouri to Western New York.
Any other theory is pure speculation and opinion that runs counter to
revelation from Jesus Christ and should be discarded and ignored, along with
    all other opinions and speculation.

    • @UtahKent

Remember, oh remember the Book of Mormon definition of a Lamanite: Anyone of the people who was not a follower of the Nephites prophets. And since the Lamanites destroyed the Nephites as a cohesive group, they, the Lamanites, were left to continue to spread across the continent and mix with the other people who were there, who would have also been considered Lamanites. which they likely did. That BoM definition of Lamanite would include all the people of the continent regardless of their ancestry or genetic origin.... including Brothet Zelph. So, your lengthy argument falls under the simple fact of how the BoM defines "Lamanite" (4 Nephi 1:37-38, as an example). Also a few more items, 1. You can't deny what Joseph said and wrote about the book by Stephen's and Catherwood, that their book on Mesoamerican reflected the BoM people. 2. The rest of the articles in the Times and Seasons supporting a Mesoamerican setting. 3. The descriptions of the travels of Moroni after the last great battle that resulted in two members named McBride and Hamilton producing rough maps indicating the city Bountiful was in central America. Those maps still exist and are in the Church Archives. 4. Helaman 3 says Nephites went into the land that were an "exceedingly great distance" north from the land Bountiful, to a land that not only had an east and west sea, but also had a north and south sea. Helaman, referring to these Nephites, contains the only such references to seas in 4 directions.
Brother Joseph left plenty of evidence the principle events of the Book of Mormon occurred in the region of Mesoamerica, as well as what the book itself actually says that corresponds to the Mexico - Guatemala area much better than to St. Louis or Buffalo, New York.
And don't hit me with the usual childish retort I've heard before "Who are you going to follow, a professor or a prophet?" That's not even a rational statement...
      I prefer actual documentation,
clear facts and evidence rather than emotional appeals, speculation and supposition being peddled through books, dvd's and money-making lectures or "firesides" by folks wanting to make a name for themselves.
You and I both know The Church has made no "official declaration" as to the location of the principle events of the Book because it's message is more important than its mapping. It just really upsets me when some folks out there just can't pass up an opportunity to make a buck off the backs of the Saints.
I honestly believe a Mesoamerican setting is much more plausible based on what Joseph Smith said and what the book contains. But that's just my opinion. Unlike some folks, I don't demand it be an article of faith.

Actually even Book of Mormon scholars from BYU admit that the Book of Mormon lands are unknown. The reason for this is the lack of archaeological evidence and no place names from the Book of Mormon appearing anywhere in North America. There are two theories. One is the one you suggest that Book of Mormon lands are in North America. Another is the "limited geography model" which is the belief that the Book of Mormon occurred in a small region of central America. This is a preferred theory because it solves a few problematic issues in the Book of Mormon. It solves the problem of DNA, language and archaeology in one pet theory. Perhaps you should educate yourself. The LDS church has some essays on these issues on their website. Just type in Essays and find the one on the Book of Mormon. Don't search the whole site of gospel topics as you won't find it there. Instead look under Essays. Good Luck.

    • @rajahntigger
      @rajahntigger 3 года назад

@@traceyb2664 I apologize for my delay in response. I generally do not follow up on my comments and just recently decided to start doing that. The essays you refer to are of an academic nature and postulate possibilities based on the evidence they show. As for the Central America theory, you stated that is solves the problem of DNA. Actually it doesn't. DNA samples from that area do not support Hebrew ancestry. On the flip side the Hopewell culture DNA is of Middle Eastern descent. As for "solving the problematic issues in the Book of Mormon" beyond DNA I am not sure what you mean. The lack of archaeology in North America in our time is easy to explain. When the Europeans settled here there were many artifact found that would support the events in the BoM but many were lost to time. Most were destroyed by farmers digging up fields to sow crops. In early newspaper articles it was common to find reports of mass burials that turned up in a field being plowed. But the farmers did not care about such things as they were more concerned about simple survival. Look up Wayne May and see the evidence he provides. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not officially support any theory on the locations found in the BoM. They have clearly stated many times that it is religious text that goes beyond simple history and that those who read the BoM should look at everything in there through the lens of spiritual knowledge. I am open to changing my mind academically but am more concerned with the spiritual aspects of the Book of Mormon.

The Algonquin "Indians" (from the Asian variety) are a vast mixed breed of Asian Indians and White Europeans. In some tribes they are upwards of 25% of the overall population. Such as the Sac, Fox, and Ojibwa tribes. All sub tribes of the Algonquin.
Speaking particularly to the issues of race. As a young Marine, I married a beautiful young Marine with blond hair and blue eyes. What a looker, she was, and still is, although we're no longer together. An exceptional Aryan she is…
Now, at the time, how could I have known that the female line of her family had been goose stepping Nazis fighting the Russians some 50 years ago? Moreover, how could I know that Finland was Russian territory that they were just trying to take back. These attacks, started by Russia, caused Operation Barbarossa.
How could I have known that her father came from slave owners in the south, and that some of those plantations were still "operational" with the descendents of the same blacks still working the land… Owned by whites…
All I saw when I met her was a beautiful young blond girl, that I could've swore I knew from somewhere.
Soon, you will see as I have, that greed and oppression knows nothing of race. Oppression is a trait of leaders and men and women with money and power; always looking for just a bit more. Look at what's going on in Africa now, "religions" kidnapping 200+ girls in a bid for so called religious power. In reality, it's just a greedy black man vying for more power.
It’s a tail as old as time… But you will only see it as a human trait, if you ignore both sides of the race card.

As a non-Mormon, you may find it very odd and strange that millions of people of our faith would continue to affirm and believe the Book of Mormon as a true narrative -- notwithstanding there not being hardly any 'smoking guns' (scientifically) for our book. A lot of non-Mormons might wonder --Why do we believe? Are we that gullible and stupid -- or could there be some other explanation? I don't think that I'm gullible or stupid...and yet, notwithstanding there being 'concrete' scientific evidence....I still maintain that the Book of Mormon is true.....strange that I would...

The authors seem to believe that the location of the Nephites and Laminites was in mesoamerica. That’s a old guess. Evidence shows that it was in the Great Lakes area. They were part of the Mound Builders. DNA of the Middle East has been found there. Joseph Smith on the Zion’s camp declared that he was seeing all kinds of items left there. He also sent missionaries to the Laminites in that area. Also the plates of gold were buried in New York. Research it yourself.

I am an ex mormon. All I can say is that Mormon Doctrine is incoherent with the bible, that Mormon Doctrine is incoherent with archeology, that Mormon Doctrine is philosophically impossible, and that Mormon Propaganda is highly convincing, but their sources are highly biased and false.
I'm sorry, but I did NOT leave the church because of
    1. Anti-Mormon Literature
    2. Abuse in the church
    3. Personal problems
    I left the church because
    1. I think for myself
    2. I read the bible
    3. I understand simple logic and philosophy
I am now a christian because
    1. It makes sense
    2. It is coherent with science (Not theories made specifically to target religion)
    3. It is MUCH more reliable.
Some common mormon arguments which are obviously wrong
    1. The Bible was translated wrong (Telephone Effect)
We have many of the original manuscripts and letters so it's basically a direct translation from the original language
    2. We are "possesed" or "influenced" by satan
Please read the bible. you are the ones being decieved lol
    3. We are christians
Please understand what christianity is before you claim that you are christian

Main Philosophically incoherent doctrine of Mormonism
      1. God had a father who had a father who had a father
      2. We can be exalted
Main Archeologically incoherent doctrine of Mormonism
      1. No archeological evidence at all
      2. None. This documentary crap has the WORST sources I've EVER seen
Main Logically incoherent doctrine of Mormonism
      1. Works and Faith not faith alone (which is ALSO a philosophically incoherent doctrine) compared to the teaching of the bible
      2. That they believe in the bible. You cannot believe in the bible yet reject the bible in mormon doctrine. Incoherent
The only reason I am a christian btw is
      1. Pascal's Wager
      2. Archeological Evidence
      3. Historical Evidence
      4. Personal Experience
      5. Apologetics. Strict scientific apologetics
If science can prove the impossibility of God, I would be aethiest
      However, that is impossible.

Mormon doctrine is also incoherent within itself. I can list here tons of verses inside the BOM which are contradicting other verses within BOM.
Then you add D&C to it and you get even greater mess and contradictions. Add proclamations of all prophets from Young to Monson and you cannot believe this doctrine at all.
One of the prophets (can't remember his name now) said that Book of Mormon contains the fullness of gospel needed for men's salvation. That mean, it contains everything you need to be saved.
If that is true, then you need not to go to the Temple and perform all those Masonic rituals in it as it is nowhere in BOM. You do not need to be eternally married and sealed in the Temple as it is not in BOM, etc.
So, the BOM either is a fullness and you do not need those rituals or it is not a fullness and you need D&C and PoGP to add to it and that prophet lied about BOM and then the BOM is not the most correct book on earth.
There is so many inconsistencies that if you start pointing them all out you get crazy.

"We Jackson County boys know how it is. We know that from the beginning the Mormons have not been the aggressors at all as it began in `33,. You Mormons were crowded to the last extreme, and compelled to self-defense; and this has been construed into treason, murder and plunder. We mob you without law; the authorities refuse to protect you according to law; you then are compelled to protect yourselves, and we act upon the prejudices of the public, who join our forces, and the whole is legalized, for your destruction and our gain. Is not this a shrewd and cunning policy on our part, gentlemen? "When we drove you from Jackson County, we burned two hundred of your houses; plundered your goods; destroyed your press and all, tarred and feathered old Bishop Partridge. We shot down some of your men, and, if any of you returned the fire, we imprisoned you, on your trial for murder. Shrewdly done, gentlemen; and I came near kicking the bucket myself; for, on one occasion, while we were tearing down houses, driving families, and destroying and plundering goods, some of you good folks put a ball through my son’s body, another through the arm of my clerk, and a third pierced my shirt collar and marked my neck. No blame, gentlemen; we deserved it."
"…the Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State if necessary…"Governor Lilburn Boggs of Missouri, in 1838. This "extermination order" resulted in the deaths of at least 60 Mormons as well as the rapes of dozens of Mormon women and girls. Countless others died from exposure as they were forced to evacuate the State.

The differences are that each different edition of the bible is a translation from manuscripts or revisions referring to the manuscripts as we get better understanding of the manuscript languages and new manuscripts are found. We also know that the manuscripts are fragmented and incomplete, so we accept various guessworks.
We don't have the manuscript of the BoM, so each new edition is not a new translation, but literally a revision. Another thing is that the BoM is claimed to be perfect.

Im not a Mormon but i have a uncontrollable thirst to discover the truth about the origins and civilization of my ancient ancestors. So many false claims and unsupportable theories out there that I find myself unable tp tell my children the true origins of our advanced civilization. SO I am always searching for something that is supported by true archaeological records. I dont know why I never looked into the Mormon Faith before, maybe because in my younger less educated years I thought of Mormons were following a profit that just made up a religion. And had people follow what he wanted. I wrote The Book Of Mormon off. But then I started hearing of these metal plates found in Midwest Death Valley and even Utah with strange unreadable writings on them. This brought a curiosity to me and I started watching Mormon Videos on You Tube this is actually only the second one I watched and I want to apologize to the Faithful Mormon for disrespecting there Profit and Religion because of the knowledge i believe to be true, this Book Of Mormon seems that it could be very possibly true. i want to learn more. Easyen Cantlose - The Bible says "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened" (Matthew 7:7-8). As you probably know, this world is full of religions. The Bible warns numerously to be careful of false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly, they are ravenous wolves. I've noticed you've said that you've been doing some research of the LDS church. In Galatians 1:6-9 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Joseph Smith said that it was an angel of light that came down and gave him a new gospel. So if people, or an angel from from heaven is preaching a different gospel than the Bible, let them be accursed. I believe that Satan uses people to lead people astray from the actual Word of God. I believe Joseph Smith was inspired by Satan. My friend Easyen Cantlose, please be careful of what you watch and listen to. :) If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I'd be pleased to help! Please don't take my word for it either. If you have a Bible, please go to the source. ;)

no you are wrong... not a different gospel but to some people it might appear so because it is the restored gospel meaning that things which were eradicated by the Catholics and Roman Catholic diocese in the first printing of the holy Bible many things were removed. as you probably do know that they had one copy to the public in chains.. literally chain to a podium....
A St James translation of some kind of written down things and made their own translations when they created the first holy Bible of saint James. many precious parts were removed., basically they wanted to keep everyone in the dark and didn't want them to read some of the things that should have been printed in the King James translation. like a film producer they cut and dropped. the restored gospel has just put those things back which should never have been taken out.~~~~~
BUT ANOTHER SOURCE OF JESUS CHRIST CAME TO US THROUGH THE BOOK OF MORMON CONSIDERED A PURE AND UNBLEMISHED BOOK OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS MINISTRY UPON THIS EARTH....

I appreciate this commentary. Thankyou also for your manner of presentation and your beautiful testimonies. I knew the Book of Mormon was a true record from the moment I began reading it. Sometimes you just know something is right, and for some one who began with doubts, ... "gut instinct" told me it was right as I began reading. Something I now call a profound spiritual experience, reckoning with people I somehow felt familiar with and their story. My mind felt enlightened and expanded with light and knowledge and a great love for the courageous followers of Christ. I continue to reread it and it brings a very powerful spirit and influence into my life amid lifes challenges. My gratitude to all the prophets and courageous people in this book, to Joseph Smith his work in translation and protecting the plates and most of all to Jesus Christ which this book andthe Holy Bible testify of. It is the testimonies of Christ and his dealings with his people that matter more to me than whether something is geographically accurate.

Show me someone who knows everything... and I will be sure to believe all their opinions. Mormons take a lot of things on faith because they are convinced of the truthfulness of such things as the 'Plan of Salvation' in the Book of Mormon, the teachings of present day Prophets and Apostles, and the effect of living the Gospel (as taught by the LDS Church) as being hugely beneficial to them. Many believe in God because they exercise faith in His Son Jesus's teachings... and this is the only way to know the truth... give God a go and see what He can do for your life.

brilly bob There is evidence to support the THEORY. Yes, it is a theory. There are plenty of parallels between Book of Mormon claims and the ancient Mesoamerican world. Is there enough to prove that the Book of Mormon is a true ancient record? Not even close. But this is the only possible lead that LDS scholars have... so they are running with it. Only time will tell. These scholars speak as if everything they say is true, but in reality they are just speaking in the context of this theory and trying to show how everything could potentially fit.

It is almost funny to me to see so many negative comments because you base your understanding on one or two things that you think, or believe had happened so that you can shoot down the Book of Mormon with your puny arm. Whatever indiscretions you chose to base your faith in simply will have zero affect on the minds and hearts and lives of the millions and millions of people that this amazing book has gone on to touch. It is true! The evidence is there, but even more then that, gods promise to us, and all people is that if you read this book with a "sincere" heart, having "faith in god" you may also know the truth of this amazing book. This promise is valid to not only me, but you too, and once you do come to know of its divinity, you will never be the same again. I am personally, so very grateful that I gained a testimony of this book and its teachings because it is the same teachings of that which was taught in the bible. Therefore, this book also proves that the bible is true.

BOM is a second testament of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. 6 Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?
7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.
9 And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever.
10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.

8 I have charity for the Jew-I say Jew, because I mean them from whence I came.
9 I also have charity for the Gentiles. But behold, for none of these can I hope except they shall be reconciled unto Christ, and enter into the narrow gate, and walk in the strait path which leads to life, and continue in the path until the end of the day of probation.
10 And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good.
      (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 33:8 - 10)

I appreciate the scientific information and I feel it does help some people gain a greater understanding of this book. However, I and most of my friends who are Latter-day Saints do not need science or scholars to know that this book is 100% true and inspired by God to come forth in the latter days. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and I know that it is true. The church is true and Jesus is the Christ.

You my friend are no Christian, Jesus is not #1 in your life. In fact you have no idea who Jesus Christ is, here is a little help. Jesus IS GOD not a god (John 1) Jesus is eternal not created (Exodus 3:14 & John 8:57-59). Your so called Jesus is a false Jesus and cannot save you. Seek the truth and become a true Christian as a true follower of the only true Jesus Christ OUR Lord and Saviour!
