- Filmed live in King's College Chapel, for broadcast at Easter 2021, this is Thomas Tallis' motet 'If ye love me'. A masterpiece of the simple, protestant English style demanded by the new Church of England in the mid-1500s, this piece has become a favourite amongst choirs around the world. Whilst we have released other versions of this, including a 'Sing along with The King's Singers' video version, we wanted to share this live performance in the magical surroundings and acoustics of our spiritual home of King's College, Cambridge, in the hope it brings peace and comfort this Easter.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another comforter,
that he may 'bide with you forever;
E'en the sp'rit of truth.
John 14:15-17

Hi, from Finland! My husband is listening to politics talking about NATO, but I prefer listening to this. 💎Thankyou for sharing! I once visited Cambridge.
😅 eternally good choice
Haha, from Finland, also. While listening to this -- there is no politics, this is next & previous level!
They are not mutually exclusive. NATO is about stoking Finland's fear and making an ultimate oath to "keeping its commandments" just so as to rub Russia's nose in it.
Thank you is two separate words.
Wise! Well done
As an ex-chorister from Kings from the 70s, this has always been one of my favourites. And now very proud to have had our little Cambridgeshire village choir of Whaddon perform this piece for Easter. Nowhere near as good as this rendition, but what moved me most was that the whole choir agreed this was the most beautiful and spiritual music they had ever sung.
Personally I tend to regard Tallis' "Spem In Alium" as the " the most beautiful and spiritual music" ever but in matters of taste there can be no disputes.
@@graziacavasino8884 Cannot argue with that. To be fair there are many candidates, my favourite four being Bach's Cello Suite no. 1, Allegri's Miserere, Whitacre's Sleep, Lotti's Crucifixus.
@@peterhaselden5784 splendid choice indeed! I'd add Max Richter's nine-hour long "Sleep" to yours.
The King's Singers were the last concert I went to before COVID hit. Their music has gotten me through the past two years. Thank you for this beauty, now and always!
Same! I saw them at George Mason in Virginia. Love these guys
I'm just happy to see them singing while standing next to each other with no mask on. As I have told everyone I know, Covid is over for me.
Just so simple - nothing fancy, no artifice, but just so beautiful.
This Is What Musical Perfection Sounds Like. Absolutely Stunning Gentlemen🎵
I fell in love with the King's Singers version of this song as they recorded it from their separate homes during the pandemic. This version, so enhanced by the acoustics of the venue, is mesmerizing. Thank you!
Simply heavenly! That's a tendre caress in such troubled times. Thank you so much. As a veteran supporter of King's Singers, it's a pleasure to see you all, especially Christopher and Johnny, who I had the chance to personally meet more than once in Rome some years ago.Happy and Holy Easter!
EVERYtime I hear this beautiful piece, I have chills and tingling on the back of my neck and all the way up the back of my head. It’s as close as my human mind can imagine how the angels sing in heaven. ✨
Beautiful! I've been a fan of multiple incarnations of "The King's Singers" since the seventies... this version is right up there with the best, and gives solace in difficult times. Thanks again!
As an ex chorister from Sydney St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir during the 80’s this is one of my favourites
This is honesty.
If this song would be played at my funeral, it's glory would definitely bring me back to life💞💕😍🇿🇲👍

King's College Chapel
It's in the description.
Would the trans-sexual brigade not be giving out that his voice was a she and therefore he cheated?
Not really. The counter tenor voice as part of traditional harmony has been with us for a very long time. The piece sung here by Thomas Tallis is from the 16th Century and would have used the same male voices. I know modern voices such as Sam Smith utilise the same pitch (termed falsetto) to great effect, but the history of the counter tenor in England is very long and covers many centuries. Today the traditional all male choirs using counter tenors are confined now mainly to cathedral choirs such as St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and here in the chapel of King's College Cambridge. This is a good example: ruclips.net/video/MrweXsImVhg/видео.html
? Counter tenors are common in Anglican cathedral choirs where they sing 16th century music. It is not like most women's voices if you listen carefully and is almost like young boy's voices but not quite. The technique has to be learned.
Try this as an example of a great counter tenor ruclips.net/video/trOXaDeFeD4/видео.html
Try replying and show some manners when people take time out but I'm not surprised you haven't tried considering your comment.
Many would argue that it is the counter-tenor / male alto / falcetto sound, rather than the sound made by boys on the top line, which most clearly identifies what we have come to understand as the "English Cathedral Sound" in renaissance polyphony. It's an artificially-created sound, quite easy for most male singers to produce BADLY and "get the notes out" but very demanding to produce to a consistently high standard. Most professional counter-tenors have a perfectly serviceable baritone register, more often inclined to Bass than to Tenor. In these days of multiple-tracking it is quite easy to find, on RUclips, examples of four-part polyphony with the same person singing every part. I think my favourite example of this is ruclips.net/video/mJid_sA06aI/видео.html
This is honesty.
Beautiful!
