Oh man I feel your pain. I´m glad the TDP was fine all along. In spite of the smell: I´ve had Lenovos with roaches underneath the touchpad. You know what... you often touch your eyes and mouth without realizing it. Be more careful with this one. You never know what disease or infection you will catch from it. :) BTW: That screwdriver is fancy. But I would mistakenly confuse it with my Iqos a lot. :D
Northridge fix seems to do things like one of my former business partners... moves fast and breaks things with shortcuts, not curious about learning or improving, and doesn't want to appreciate details or mitigating risk. Like someone who is against wearing a seatbelt.
The furmark issue could be a related to bios level protections against "power viruses". I could be recalling incorrectly but in the past i believe that applications like furmark were able to get certain video cards into unexpected load states that caused damage.
Gotta love trying to solve a problem monitoring software claims exists when it is the monitoring software that's the problem. I feel your pain and frustration over that.
The smell of ash and soot is retained by the dust and other stuff. It clears up quite quickly but clean it outside as a closed area will retain the smell. I've dealt with too many dirty PCs to even care anymore, I just wear a mask for the dust part.
Great video! At least you did not break it when trying to fix it , like I would have. Sorry you lost time on it. But you learnt not to trust ONE source of information.
Alex from North-ridge Fix says only stupid people use an oscilloscope. I left a comment stating what you accomplish with such a tool e.g. e.g. detecting a dead phase or if the BIOS chip is communicating. Or timing of certain resistors.
I have a cat that liked to sit on the top of my living room PC. It has two fan grills on top and one time she caught her claw in one of the grills and panicked and screamed bloody death. She thrashed and ended up ripping that claw sheath off. She hasn't been on it since. Maybe puss paws climbed up on that PC and sprayed it, I can totally see that happening. I think the dude with the laptop expects a warranty to include troubleshooting forever.
55:48 - nVidia drivers will limit the clock in Furmark drastically to prevent damage , the donut is designed to load up all of the shaders on the card in a way games do not , which generates loads of heat. Older nVidia GPUs around the Fermi era can be destroyed with such loads if sustained hence the protections. Probably why the card's power limiter cuts in early.
I'd rather use Speed Way or Steel Nomad with 3dmark for these reasons. If the card doesn't hit 100% TDP (350W board power or thereabouts there's an issue)
Wait.. your "100%" TDP showed only 300-330W, but the 3090 does at least 350W TDP and 420W for the EVGA FTW3 versions. Is the power also reported wrong like the TDP-percent in GPU-z?

When you put things on the preheater, doesn't it have any effect on the capacitors? Do you ever have them blow up or become damaged just because of the preheater not the hot air? Thanks for the video.
Gotta have hazardous / debris + cleaning label attached to invoice and notify customer about charge at least 100-200 bucks if not more depending on how bad it is. But smell is the worst condition so might as well add another fee
1:30 Tony, there is no need to change the position of the rotary switch for discharging. Internal construction in the multimeter makes this possible (shunt between that Amp terminal and the ground terminal).
I had worse. Had several full of kitchen cockroaches. I always have a plastic bag at hand. The moment any kind of roach comes out, I toss the darn thing into the bag, and send it back to the owner. Some even say I'm crazy and there is no roach in that thingie.
once you confirmed all the measurements checked out fine on the board i knew the problem was software side. when i saw you reball the core i was yelling "why?! are you just bored?!?!" and got a good laugh when hwinfo confirmed the card was working correctly
why not make a hole in the desk to install the preheater so as to have a flat surface under the silicone protection, the support for the card being removable Would it be possible that it is the shunt resistance which, like the 3 resistances of 0 ohms, would have taken a little more value and would give an incorrect value?
When i used to fix PC's a long time ago, I always charged extra if the PC was nasty - nasty being it came from a heavy smoker and absolutely stank, along with having everything covered in a yellow stinky sticky film. I never told them i charged more than normal, just their bill was bigger as it had a hidden hazmat fee.
You probably have the card closed and shipped by now, but in the future if you get this same card for repair, can you test the difference between gpu temp and hotspot temp? This specific model seems to have mounting problems where hotspot temp is around 15-18c higher than gpu temp, which suggests some areas of the gpu is not making good contact. I tried reinstalling some many times in so many different ways of tightening the bracket, it worked once lowering the difference to 10C but after a month it went up again. Would appreciate feedback. Ofc I replaced the paste with mx6
21:28 - I don't know about you. I would bend the end of the copper strip so that it protrudes through the contact point of the battery and it will no longer fall out.
You said about a capacitor turning into a resistor, maybe voltage injection is the fix? 27:31
15 дней назад+1
If it releases the magic smoke or wears, it can. A 2 terminal passive component is characterized more completely as a complex transfer function rather than just as only capacitance, inductance, or resistance. Damage and wear does change it. A capacitor is shown to be defective if it passes measurable DC current at around its rated max voltage . It's also important to sometimes check passives out of circuit because sometimes your are reading values from other components in series or parallel with the component under test.
Why would you switch the meter to A, when doing the short? It has a thick wire as shunt inside permanently connected between ground and amps terminal. No need.
I also experience such low resistance on 3.3v rail on a gtx750ti it turns out a dead GPU core, when the card is power it only pulls 0.5Amps but no other voltage rail except 5v, then the core heats up but in a very specific spot only at the side, the opposite side is stone cold
I'd most likely disassemble it immediately with gloves, just do a quick glance under the microscope for burns/heat damage then toss everything in an ultrasonic with bleach or something in it and send it back as a "fix". I fixed the smell bro!

I fixed the smell bro!
i traded a fxf 5700dd ultra for a 1080 strix and b450 mobo
a few years back. little did i know that mobo smelled like cat piss.
(nor did it work). 1080 worked, but ol boy copped a black eye
from me. fuck that nasty shit. oh, the strix was half apart, fans broken
but did work. so i didn get entirely ripped off.
Someone confused Golden Sample with Golden Shower.
Aroma? That's interesting to speak of a nasty smell like it were an aroma.... oh, you were being sarcastic, right? ROFL :D
