- St. Louis meets on of the few living stars from the movie Meet Me in St. Louis. Margaret O'Brien, who played the precocious Tootie in the classic MGM musical came to St. Louis for a screening of the film and a Q and A with fans at the Tivoli Theater. Her visit was the result of St. Louis winning a contest sponsored by Turner Classic Movies. TCM Host Ben Mankiewicz also came to St. Louis for the screening. Before the event, HEC's Paul Schankman interviewed them both about the film, getting behind the scenes stories about the making of the film, and it's star, Judy Garland.
These old films are truly immortal
One of my all time favorite musicals. Margaret O'Brien I believe is the last surviving cast member of this classic film
As of today, June Lockhart is still living. She's 97!

Judy Garland is really a sweet person
Yes she was
I recall that in the late 1980s the Museum of Modern Art in New York City obtained sufficient materials to produce their own restoration of Meet Me In St Louis and I went to a screening of it. Up to that time I had seen several of the great MGM musicals on television but I was not prepared for what I saw at that screening. In fact I consider this the first time I saw three strip Technicolor as it was meant to be seen. The audience gasped in several places it was so gorgeous. One of the most enjoyable afternoons I have ever spent at "the movies."
The Christmas song originally contained a reference to dying ("this might be your last"), and Judy had sense enough to know that it shouldn't be sung.
I have this wonderful classic in my library. Now in my mid 50’s I look back and find those were the best of times for entertainment and wish I could go back and do it all over again. To think about the work that went into making them ..
It’s a pity the creators didn’t realize how special these films were. They deleted a lot of unused footage. Particularly the “boys and girls like you and me” number which is one of my favorite Judy Garland songs. I’d give anything to see the cut number
I love watching old movies, they are so joyful and I love when they sing. I’ve had a bad Xmas and I watched meet me in St. Louis for the first time and it was exactly what I needed, beautiful songs, amazing set and costumes, and wonderful acting. I get sad watching old movies when I know all the cast is now deceased so I was glad watching this to know little tootie was still alive
Love this! I'm teaching my choir kids all about the classic musicals! Barbara Silberg, Dir. The West Los Angeles Children's Choir
A true classic.
God protect Margret O’Brien and keep her safe. She’s one of our last precious treasures 🙏🏽❤️❤️
One of my favorites films. I did have the opportunity to meet Margaret O'Brien in the mid 1990's at an autograph show. She is a very sweet woman and I'm happy i got the chance to meet and talk with her.
Margaret O' Brien steals the show completely. Such a wonderful actress. She was 6 years old! Fabulous film.
Nobody ever stole the show from Judy
TCM may be the greatest channel to ever be on television and Judy Garland will forever be a true Hollywood Star amongst stars.
Really wonderful seeing Margaret O'Brien, after all these years :) She was (& still is) a very talented lady !! I love Meet Me in St Louis so much and Margaret's (and Judy's) performance was outstanding & memorable ! The other players were wonderful too ! Thanks for sharing this ! Ralph - Melbourne Australia

Thank goodness, Ted Turner saw the historical value of the wonder classics.
My wife and I just today watched stage production of this classic. It was great. Made me come home and find the original movie trailer and this neat little bit on Margaret O'Brien "Tootie". What a great movie/musical.
FOR THOSE OF US AT A CERTAIN AGE WHO CAN APPRECIATE INCREDIBLE FILMS LIKE THIS. CHRISTMAS WOULD BE MISSING SO MUCH BY NOT WATCHING THIS SEVERAL TIMES!!!

I wish I can live in the 1900s for just a month
2020! :p
Wow
Can’t believe that Margaret O’Brien has a nose ring.
Would anyone know how the trollies were powered? I see a fast glimpse of an overhead wire.
It's history Judy garland meet me in luse
That's where my grandparents met. He delivered ice by horse and she was a dancer. Somehow they met in an elevator.
She was 7 not 6 lol
She and Cher have the same age
Does she really have a double nose piercing?
yeah what about it?
Yeah, I looked twice at that. Seems a bit odd for one born in 1937, but nowt wrong with it, I guess.
Dore Schary fired Judy Garland
No one told her she had lipstick on her teeth? Dang
I thought Shirley Temple was the biggest child star in Hollywood lol
Not in 1944
she really got old fast since i last saw her on any program. it happens to some
Uh... It happens to everyone. If you're lucky.
Judy loves lipstick she wears it in wizard of oz and this film dang
but he was gay so lol it wasnt all that great for judy loll
BUT, WHO GIVES LIFE AND LOVE AND WHO SACRIFICES-HEY ZEUS. I'm NOT INTO DISPARRINGING FEMINIST COMMENTARY ANYMORE. SO YOUR JEALOUS???
TCM, sadly, has gone Full Woke, with little lectures before classic films telling us how racist and sexist they were and how intrinsically racist and sexist America is. Just another little chapter in the degeneration of a once-great culture and country.
Boo hoo
Of course ben mankiewicz had to spoil this really nice tribute by bring in his political bias into it. Maybe he should keep his meltdowns for his Young Turks audience.
