i caught a whiff of a two stoke bike riding by a few weeks ago, and it brought back so many memories…the rd350 was the first street bike i ever drove when i was 14…it was a monster !…ain’t nothin’ like ‘em!
I WENT TO THE FIRST 20,lots of videos on my channel,just look at the playlist feature for model airplanes they are all in one playlist and new ones get added regularly.
Such great memories from the awesome Yamaha RD 400.When I was in eighth grade (1978, 79), I used to get a ride to school most mornings from my friend Doug who was in High School at the time. He had an RD 400(with Bassani aftermarket pipes), the best part of the ride was doing two up wheelies past the High School. We had the matching yellow with black & white stripe jacket that matched the color scheme of the bike. One memory I don't think I'll ever forget, what a way to start and end a day, I also got a ride home after school. 👍🤘🙂

Thx for the memories! In the 70's and 80's living on the south of Montreal the first bike I bought was a 79 RD 400 Daytona Special soon equipped with DG chambers and rejettd carbs with pod filters. A homemade tail tidy and Rz 350 lower cowl gave it unique look! After a break from two stokes with a Cb900f I bought a low milage 1981 RD350LC which got the same treatment of pipes,filters,jetted carbs. What a fast and nimble litte bike to do some serious footpeg scapping! The last two stroke I owned was the motherlode! A 1985 RZ500R four cylinder liquid cooled rocket which I sold after 3 years for what is now a ridiculus low price. Family and life kept me away for a while but now I'm back into bike for good since about 7 years ago now. Now riding a 2020 Kawasaki z900rs. Old school is my school forever! Cheers and ride safe.
Bought one new in 1977….sold it way to soon and got a SR 500!? after that a Kawasaki 650…god know how many bikes I have had but today I keep 3 bikes in my stable, a Yamaha MT 07 a Suzuki GT 550 3 cylinder 2 stroke and a Honda SLR 650 singel, just can’t live with out them❤
Sweet two stroke music! Adds a little pep to your day. Thanks, I needed that. 😅 One benefit of tuned pipes is weight reduction. Another is ground clearance. You are a wise man to keep the stock pipes for potential reinstallation. Following your lead, I too, kept my stock pipes and parts for my RZ. Gotta keep your options open.
I grew up with a friend who had a seized RD250. We built it up with chambers and flat slide carbs. It would do the Ton +. It pissed off many larger bikes at the track. Great Memories!!
I still have my TZ 750 E my father bought me in 1978 It will wake up the dead! I won quite a few open club races here in Australia back then because absolutely nothing could touch me. LOL 122 bhp @ 164kg's wet. Thankfully I never crashed it but came close quite a few times. ;-))
I have an RD 400 that i bought several years ago and I have never ridden it🙈. But I also have a TZ 350 race bike that I have raced for several years. I love "two smokers"

I recently got my 77 rd400 up and running and I have the exact set of DG pipes that you showed at the beginning of the video. I noticed some of the footage shows a stinger tip at the end cap. What is that do for the tuning, or sound? I'm not sure I know the purpose of the Stinger tips? My DG's just have the flat caps.

I BOUGHT ONE NEW IN 73,IT BECAME ONE OF MY RACE BIKES AND LIVES AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE IN FLORIDA STILL SURPRISES EVERYONE HOW MUCH FUN THEY ARE.

I HAD A 125 SUZUKI WITH A PIPE THAT HOWLED AND NEIGHBORS HATED ME. THAT WAS BEFORE THOSE SILENCERS WERE PUT ON END OF PIPES.

IT IS A GREAT SOUND BLACK OR CHROME.
Owned a suzuki gt 750 rejetted it and mounted 3 expansion pipes, then totalled it including my self,went after recovering for the gs 1000😅

My very first bike a Yamaha RD250 with expansion chambers exhaust would do 100 plus
I would ride around that park on one of my H2s on a Sunday morning or I would be on 208 going up to greenwood lake..
