Hey Timeka. Thank you for your channel it is much appreciated. However can you elaborate more on the fact that affirmative action is not just giving us the job! Please note as Black folks and some people of color have to be twice as good we have to have more education more experience to get that same job and then be labeled as if somehow the job was just given to us with no experience and it was simply because of the color of our skin. I think you're making it sound simplistic. I don't know if that's your intention but please make sure you are describing the difference with more emphasis that DEI is more of an outgrowth of the civil rights movement/Act. You did a great job of describing DEI. Not so much with affirmative action action particularly when you look at who benefited most and it certainly wasn't Black people Thank you!

What a great video. Thank you for breaking this down. Just a comment regarding the skin color and affirmative action. You do still have to be qualified for the position, correct? Like even if you are a protected person under AA, you wont get a job if you are say, Black, but dont meet the qualifications? Because I have a misinformed family member who wants it to go away because she wants people who are qualified to get the position and not because they are a certain race.
You got it RIGHT! You MUST MEET the qualifications!!! Like the video says, AA was created because QUALIFIED minorities were not given a chance. Once you’re qualified & get the role, then DEI steps in to make your voice heard.

Timeka, that was a very informative video, thank you. You reeled off your very impressive credentials/qualifications. Have you ever encountered non-black colleagues who are just as qualified as or more qualified than you in your field? I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is, "No".
With all that being said why should another person suffer because they lived a better life. And a person shouldn't have to be forced to be exposed to unfortunate events of another. People have to change their situation by changing their minds
I agree … until you are put in a situation where mindset can’t even take you out of it. People can suffer a mental breakdown that can lead to poverty or extreme situations where you can be so close to get out until something brings you back to square one.
@mxchic05 I agree with you too. I've been there. I used to say well they had it easy. But I realized that so did I. The choices I made. I was never a slave like my ancestors. I had opportunities that my ancestors fought for. But my mindset led to unfortunate events. Other cultures have experienced hardships too. Europeans were slaves and for them to do some of the treacherous things that they do they had to have experienced it themselves. We have to wake up. Otherwise it's going to continue over and over. We have to keep moving forward and find our own way with no hard feelings. You can't expect something from someone that doesn't have the means. You can't expect people to treat you good when they have showed you over and over how they feel about you through their actions. It's no hard feelings towards them because that's who they are and only God can change them and they have to be willing to want to do so. So foolish of me to try to make them see it from my pov. Move on and walk away and go where you are loved and felt the most loved.
I have a few sincere questions/comments to make. There is no ill intent in my post so don't come for me people! I am also dealing with a ton of brain fog so some of this may not make sense: Your critique of a white woman being in charge of DEI because they how can they understand your struggle (I know that's not exactly how you said it), is it not impossible for anyone to fill that position who would understand the struggles of every single group that is supposed to be represented under DEI? There is a talking point going around that white women benefited more from DEI than any other group. I believe that is based on employment stats. What do you think about that? In my experience/observation a lot of orgs did not carry out education or implementation of DEI policies very well. While intentions may have been good it was carried out in a way that pushed folks over the edge. It seemed like a hyper focus on categorizing people and highlighting differences, telling people they had to talk a certain way, etc. Heck, I remember watching someone get piled on by a person who didn't like the term "Hey guys" I think they were nonbinary and that somehow triggered them. Ruined the entire meeting. They told this person they needed more sensitivity training. It really got outrageous at times and could be very draining - this is coming from someone in one of the underrepresented groups. I think over reactions and overkill is a large part of the reason people got so turned off by DEI. Again, I understand there were many people with good intentions but you know it only takes a few bad actors to ruin something. I wish I was more articulate but you get my point. Thanks for the video.
See, I like this because you're saying, or I'm interpreting what you're saying, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that the reason you got to the table was because of your knowledge, skill, education and wisdom; NOT because of the color of your skin, your gender, etc. If you didn't have that knowledge, skill, wisdom, etc., there would be little need for you to be at the table, regardless of your race, gender, etc.
@@HeyyyHRI'm sure there isn't a perfect system. Do you believe there is an ideal situation for hiring people, that align with company culture and bottom line?

I live in a rich Jewish neighborhood in Minnesota and everything is locked up. Companies are preparing for mass looting.
Woooow! So sad to see the world we live in smh

I have a few sincere questions/comments to make. There is no ill intent in my post so don't come for me people! I am also dealing with a ton of brain fog so some of this may not make sense:
Your critique of a white woman being in charge of DEI because they how can they understand your struggle (I know that's not exactly how you said it), is it not impossible for anyone to fill that position who would understand the struggles of every single group that is supposed to be represented under DEI?
If you can’t stand the heat…
please finish your sentence

See, I like this because you're saying, or I'm interpreting what you're saying, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that the reason you got to the table was because of your knowledge, skill, education and wisdom; NOT because of the color of your skin, your gender, etc. If you didn't have that knowledge, skill, wisdom, etc., there would be little need for you to be at the table, regardless of your race, gender, etc.
You got it perfectly!!!!💜💜💜

So, if someone disagrees with you their being negative ... Oh wait I mean respectfully disagrees ok
I don’t mind opposing thoughts. What I was getting was being called out of my name including “dumb b#%^, N#^*!, etc” … THATS A NO for me …
@@HeyyyHRI'm sure there isn't a perfect system. Do you believe there is an ideal situation for hiring people, that align with company culture and bottom line?
