Agree with the take that it's *probably* Civ 7, and also that the IGN article doesn't prove anything. What's maybe a more solid indication is that there are 7 exclamation marks in the original tweet. Crossing my fingers it's Civ 7, but confident that whatever is, the next game is going to be great.

@@alibierbulekov2368 Eh, a lot of people think Religious Victories are pretty uninspiring, basically being an alternative Domination Victory. Making an economic victory like a religious victory would not even be close to interesting.
Instead I'd like to see some trade domination or economic bloc system. Have everyone start off on their own, and then have civs dominate the trade over other nations. Maybe even add some parts of the Diplomatic Victory in, like the Send Aid prompt, which now gives you trade hegemony instead of diplo points. Kinda like what the US did with the Marshall Plan. It would give a system where factions are diplomatically independent, but are economically dependent on you. They get money, you get influence (and maybe resources or sth). You can even allow yourself to become part of an economic bloc to siphon funds of a big empire, then use the money to win in another category.

Everyone has a wishlist for civ 7. Personally, I think that the single biggest thing they could do from day one is design a game that is more open to modders and for the devs to keep an eye on mods for potentially valuable improvements to the game. Some of those UI mods for civ 6 should have been integrated into the game ages ago. They need to recognize that these modders are developing free content out of their passion for the game.

With all of its flaws, I still absolutely love Beyond Earth, especially the development of the factions, all of their stories, characters, quotes, etc. The biggest issue I have with the game is still that they didn't spend more time perfecting it.
A Beyond Earth game with some of the mechanics from Civ VI, like expanding cities into more than one tile, combined with the Beyond Earth Rising Tide stuff like moving cities on water, would be amazing.
Still, if there is only resources to work on one game, then I guess it would have to be a proper Civ VII.

My wish for Civ 7: smaller tiles, so a higher hexagonal resolution.
My reason: I have played Civ 5 and Civ 6, and have noticed that the perceived size of tiles differs a lot. In Civ 5, a single tile can contain entire cities; workers have to work for multiple turns to improve one tile. In Civ 6, every district needs its own tile and workers complete it in one turn; so tiles feel much smaller. However, this means that for balance reasons workers only can use their action a finite number of times.
I like the districts, but also think that the old workers are better. I think the most natural thing to do, then, is smaller tiles: I was thinking of tiles that are half as big (diameter). In area, this means that one tile is worth 1/4 tile in civ 6.
A city is now neither 1 tile nor sprawling as large as you want, but starts at 1 tile and gradually grows into 7 tiles (core + ring, or possibly even 19 with 2 rings?) if the population is enough. The city radius can grow up to 12 tiles, and distance between cities is at least 6 tiles. Each tile contains less resources, so you need to improve more tiles; but for the equivalent population, a city can work more tiles. Since wonders still take one tile, they take up less space.
In this case, the "new district at population goal" instead changes into "all non-core parts of the city can be given a specialisation".
Of course this changes a lot in the game, like completely rebalancing movement. But it also gives many possibilities; perhaps a river is no longer a boundary but a one tile wide thing, and travel along rivers gives a boost?
As for workers, workers now exists for infinitely long (like civ 5) and complete tiles instantly, but they also need multiple turns since each resource is multiple tiles wide.
However, this would mean that borders get much longer, so wars might get exponentially more effort. I am not sure if players want that.
Anyway this would be a very dramatic change, but if they are going to make civ 7 the same as civ 6 they might as well update the latter. So I hope they consider something like this.

To be honest I think you could be close - if we look at the evidence and history they like to put something between iterations, sci-fi has been done and that market is pretty flooded, they experimented with things like Vampires and legendary heroes in Civ 6 and they gave their youner devs a full run on the recent Leader passes. So I could totally see a Fantasy Civ using very similar mechanics to Civ 6 primarily developed by the younger devs coming out followed by a Civ 7 developed by the more experienced talent coming out a year or two after.

I think the Vampires and Heroes that came out in Civ 6 could be seen as a test to see if the fanbase would accept more outlandish elements - they did. Personally I think if they were going to do a game between Civ 6 and Civ 7 we can guess how they would do it from those things, the Beyond Earth launch and the new leader pass - get the younger devs who did the Leader pass to do a Fantasy version of Civ leaning into the look and feel of current Civ 6 but with Orcs, Elves, Dragons etc - dont mess with the core gameplay too much just tweak things in the way things like Panzer General morphed into Fantasy General. It would still be a quite different experience to Civ 6 but at the same time familair. Meanwhile the more experienced core Devs work on a significantly upgraded Civ 7 with new mechanics. After 6 years tech has moved on and I am sure there's a lot of things they could do to update the core game. I cant see them going back to a Beyond Earth/Alpha Centauri style game because that alien world style of 4x is a more crowded market and the previous attempt wasn't a huge hit.

Civ 7 is hopefully coming but it's interesting which area of the game is going to be radically changed. Maybe it's time to revamp the production system by adding industry like in colonialism in which the yield of food will be increased but some citizens will work in "industry" districts to convert resources to goods which will be used to produce units and buildings like forest yields wood which is converted to lumber which is needed for archers. Maybe re-add trade in food but make the range limited. The food caravan will be able to be outside for only one turn but will have say 6 hex moves with roads/rails/airports extending it's range.
The current production system had become too loose.

If it's Civ 7, the only thing i really want is for them to make it easier to mod even core mechanics and to have an engine that can handle way more than the current one.
That way we can avoid the problem of the asset limit crippling the modding community like it did with the NFP.
Creating a sandbox will mean way more longevity for the game than anything else.
Personally I can't wait until the Leader pass is done so I can go in and disable all the animated portraits, so I can have more assets freed up to either play with more mods or on bigger maps.

It's going to be Civ 7 or a Fantasy version of Civ then Civ 7. There's no real call for another space version of Civ and there are other similar games everywhere in that niche so the competion is very high - if they wanted something between Civ 6 and Civ 7 then the only really logical choice is a Fantasy style version of Civ with Elves, Orcs etc where they could lean into that cartoony leader graphic thing they have with Civ 6 before pivoting and evolving style with Civ 7. There would be a market for a full on Fantasy World version of a Civ style game with magic and outlandish looking units like Dragons and I could see them doing that because they could use much of the existing mechanics and graphic style and have those newer dev team people who worked on the Leader packs that have recently come out to expand on Civ 6 whilst more experienced devs concentrate on a proper Civ 7. I dont necessarily think there will eb a Fantasy Civ coming out I just think things like the Vampires, the mythological heroes etc in Civ 6 seemed like a test to see if people would accept that and they did - which means it's now a more likely option than a sci-fi one.

They experimented with Vampires and legendary heroes in Civ 6 and the fanbase didn't rebel. A lot of games in this style seems to be moving in that direction and I could see them doing like a classical civ 7 along with other styles of game in the same engine all through one launcher/game and have a better plan for an extended development cycle than they may usually have. Also getting this sort of development non-intensive content through the leader pass indicates that maybe they wanted to delay things just a bit more than they would have otherwise so maybe a bit larger project is reasonable to expect.

I would like the next Civ game to use the word "Delegation" in its subtitle, and allow me to delegate certain tasks to the AI. For example, I may want to delegate the city tile management to an AI algorithm. Or the military battling to another AI. Or negotiating treaties and trade with other civs to an AI. Each "strong AI personality" should have a name and should be unlocked. And users should have the ability to build and share their own AI characters. And the letters "A" and "I" in the word "Civilization" should be a different colour so that we know they are emphasizing the AI in this game. Also, the "voice acting" should be computer generated and the graphics engine should automate the animated mouth based on whatever text is being spoken.

In other news: Activision is producing another Call of Duty, Nintendo is making another Mario game, and square Enix is making 12 more FFXIV expansions.

Imagine if Fallout 5 got announced just from Todd Howard posting on Twitter saying "New Fallout coming soon". Very strange. With some of the big names leaving Firaxis, I think there's something odd going on behind the scenes.

There are 7 exclamation points, so got to think it's Civ 7. Just weird that they're announcing it now without say a release date or anything. Seems obvious that the game had been in development already...

I really want it to look much more like civ 5. Realism please. I never liked how the districts didn’t blend into the city. Everything just seemed so disjointed
