I just adopted a pup. My cat is curious but terrified. I can barely get him to stay in the same room for more than a few seconds. How can I calm down my kitty? He’s not treat motivated. He’s about a year old and I don’t know much about his past. He’s a randomly showed up and now I have a cat kind of cat. 😂 Thanks for any suggestions!
You'll need to teach some focus games where you cue the dog to focus on you instead of the animal. Chasing is instinctual so these games have to be practiced often, starting with quiet areas like inside. You'll also need to use high value treats when out in the wild and he or she sees these animals. With enough practice he or she will be able to overcome instinct to chase. The focus games are in our training program if you want to take a look: 30 Days to Puppy Perfection Training Program www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/30-days-to-puppy-perfection
I have an adult husky who chases cats. And I always forbade her to do that but she still chases a cat the moment she sees it. I would appreciate a similar video but for an adult dog and if a cat is not in a household
You can apply the same suggestions to an adult dog, but you'll have to set up training sessions with a friend's cat or in an area where you know to be cats.
I have an adult 100lb rescue Dutch shepherd mix, he is PERFECT other than his unhinged cat chasing. I am on trainer number 5 and no one has been able to help me fix this. I love my dog so much and its always so anxiety producing going on walks. He has dragged me through fields and up concrete streets. (when i say dragged, I mean it. like i hit the ground and he takes off running with the leash attached to my waist) I really need help with this. I exercise him 2+ hours a day and try to find ways to mentally engage him.
Keep working on it, this will get better! One thing to note is that when we are trying to teach our dog new behaviors, we can't let them "practice" the unwanted behavior. Every time he pulls on the leash and you move in that direction it's reinforcing the pulling. The same with cats: we have to prevent him from chasing cats while we work to teach him a new behavior. Adding in more mental work and possibly decreasing the physical exercise will be helpful!
@@HowToTrainADreamDog I turn the other way immediately While reinforcing “leave it” And I do not reward until he’s completely disengaged We have Tons of neighborhood cats and they will jump out of no where Or even chase us
We are not familiar with it for chinchillas, but we have seen the diffuser plugged in at vet's offices so we presume that it's fine for all animals. You can check with your vet or contact customer service for the Adaptil to find out for sure.
Thanks for watching! 🐶🐱Do you have a cat? How is your puppy doing with them?

Do you have any suggestions for stopping dogs from chasing outdoor animals? Like squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, opossums, etc.

Any idea if the calming plugin is safe for chinchillas?
