  • Dear listeners, students, and friends. I am glad to introduce you to the second episode of my Lithuanian podcast for non-native speakers.
In today's episode, you will learn more about one of my favorite Lithuanian celebrations - Užgavėnės. In 2024, Užgavėnės is going to be celebrated on the 13th of February, so I encourage you to learn a bit more about it's traditions, meaning and significance.
I suggest turning on the subtitles for a more comfortable listening experience. Install Language Reactor to translate the Lithuanian titles into your native language.
Also, if you wish to receive the full transcript of this episode, please head to my Contibee. There you will find all the podcast's transcripts, longer format Lithuanian with Paulius recordings and more.

Колодій pronouns like Kolodìj with long i and accent on i , like in a word "knee" [ ni:] 🤗 Funny fact that with Lithuanian subtitles i understand everything and the most of it literally. So i feel some connection with this language. Let's the learning journey begins! Have to find some books. And learn the pronouns of single sounds and diphthongs.

Hi, thanks for the comment and clarifying the pronunciation! Regarding books: I highly suggest picking up a student book called “Sėkmės.” It’s a great student book for beginners and it would help to build a strong foundation. You can buy a paper back or a pdf online. Here’s the link: www.vu.lt/leidyba/knygos/sekmes :)

I’m sorry, I didn’t really understand the comment. These seem to be names of people. Were you trying to tag someone?

Sometimes i watch some Lithuanian reels and i can understand everything they say because i am Latvian, but i didn't understand anything from this story.. Perhaps because i am a zirga galva? 🐴🐴 Yeehaw

Haha, nah, I don't think it's because of that! This video has some specific words that might have been a bit tough to understand if you haven't encountered them before. Try reading the video's transcription which you can find on my website and translate some of the unknown words with Rememberry. It will help to build up the necessary vocabulary!
