"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
If you are new to my channel, I strongly recommend reading the description under the “about” tab, which will provide a clearer understanding of what to expect in my films: / solitaryrambler

If I'm not mistaken, this episode is the first to devote entirely to town centre walk and is wonderful. The Christmas trees inside the church are spectacular and reflect the beauty of the season. Many thanks Patrick!
Thanks for watching Richard. I have done other town/city walks before, e.g. York, Bristol, Bath, Hereford, Malvern 👍
We stayed in Chesterfield for a short break about three years ago, having never been there before. We had a delightful walk out into the countryside along the Chesterfield Canal one day, and the following day into the town centre along the canal. Seeing your film was a pleasant reminder of an enjoyable day looking round the town.
Pleased this was a great reminder Michael. Yes the walk along the Chesterfield Canal is a good one to do. Many thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Very professional and educational. Patrick is very natural as a producer and presenter. A very relaxing voice. Will watch as many as possible.
Cheers Anthony, hope you are keeping well 👍
A lovely tour of my hometown, born there in '67, moved to Brum in 1991, but my heart belongs in Chesterfield :)
Nice one, many thanks for your kind words and for watching 👍
@@solitaryrambler My pleasure!
Such a coincidence, I only mentioned Chesterfield to you last weekend so I was delighted that it was on your list of walks to show us. Me and my wife were at a charity do at Chesterfield FC several years ago which was fun; we had a good look around the town the following day and although the weather was utterly dreadful (high winds and sideways rain) it didn't spoil our weekend. This brought back great memories so thank you.
There you go you see, you mention something and then the next thing, there it is! 😂 Glad it brouight back some good memories, thanks for watching 👍
@@solitaryrambler It was great, loved it.
I was just talking to Lee and its over forty years since i was in chesterfield last ..I do remember spotting the spire from the railway station and on a further visit to saltergate the old football ground we had a wander around the town centre..So brought back a few memories for me thanks patrick.... i ve told lee i ll take her to see the spire in the future ...thank you for another cracking video ...regards Frank & Lee....
Yeah the old Saltergate football ground was still there when I moved to Derbyshire, but it moved a long time ago now. As always Frank and Lee many thanks for watching 👍
I've passed through chesterfield a few times in the car and never stopped, wish i had now. Looks a great place for a stroll. In the distance when you were walking in the town you could see the crooked spire. I cannot believe you missed it year's ago lol. It was certainly strange to see you walking around a town but enjoyable. Thanks for showing us around, i really liked it. Cheers.
It ain't crooked, it's misunderstood!!!!!
Yeah I couldn't believe I missed the damn thing, but there you go! As I said here though as I didn't know anything about Chesterfield, I didn't know what to look out for. Hey-ho! Glad you enjoyed it Kelly, and many thanks as always for commenting and for watching 👍
Hello Patrick That was a nice walk around the town lovely building that one thing we miss here very little history here. Have a great weekend thanks Patrick :)
Glad you enjoyed it Shaun, many thanks and hope your weekend was good too 👍
Lovely video, Patrick. I can only echo the previous compliments. Thank you !
Many thanks as always for watching and commenting! 👍
Enjoyed that Patrick, interesting and lots of information as usual, thankyou for sharing.
Thanks again Pete 👍
I visited here around the 2nd Dec 2024, found it to be very nice and way better than expected.
Looks like Chesterfield has twisted trees as well as a crooked (twisted spire) 17.50😄
Remember Saturdays walking around the shops and market stalls in Chesterfield and a visit to the record shop. Unfortunately the COOP department store in that beautiful old building closed and is now a Premier Inn with retail units. The store had been trading since 1938 and was a major part of the town centre.
Thanks again for watching. I remember the Co-op in Chesterfield before it became a Premier Inn 👍
I really enjoyed this one Patrick ,Chesterfield is a lovely town .
The church is just beautiful ,crooked spire and all . If you ever have a go at that organ please record it and share it with us
Thanks Bill, yes Chesterfield is a great town and the crooked spire is what makes it isn''t it. I would certainly love to have a go at that organ! 👍
Excellent film Patrick I do love a roam around a town or city all the best simon 👍
Many thanks for your kind comments Simon and for taking the time to watch! 👍
A big Sainsbury’s in Matlock! How did I miss that? 😀.A very different video but hugely enjoyable as usual.
Glad you enjoyed it Peter, many thanks! 👍
Thanks for this episode. On balance I prefer the rambles around the towns and I hope that you will do more of them. I have never been to Chesterfield but it is much more attractive than I imagined. So if I get the chance I will certainly visit if we are ever in the area. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching, glad you liked this. I filmed around a very small area of Chesterfield here, but I think I captured the best part of it. All the best 👍
Ahhh. Been here a few times and bought many DVDs from the market on a Saturday :)
Yeah I think they still sell DVDs there! 👍
I usually drive through so a change to see it on foot. Will check out some of those fabulous buildings next time I come.
Hope you do, it's a nice town 👍
Great vid again Patrick.... Merry Xmas 🎄 and thanks for Yr work.. Regards Ali /R..
Many thanks as always Ali, have a great Christmas too! 👍
Really enjoyable video Patrick, you certainly do your research, very informative. The town hall does have the same front as the Bolton town hall with pillars and steps. Lovely musical interludes, really inspiring. What music software do you use, I've started using Sonar Artist (before it was Cubase), I find them awkward at times.
Many thanks for watching and for the kind words Steve. I do indeed spend a lot of time on the research. I use MixPad Multitrack Recording software. I just cable connect my Yamaha keyboard to my desktop PC, then I use the software to record what you hear basically. I may try other software in the future if I want to try different sounds in addition to what my keyboard can produce, although I'm very happy with it to be fair 👍
Our static is in Youlgreave and we drive through Chesterfield when we head there from Nottingham, yet it is a town we haven't really wandered around. We must get around to it.
always enjoy going to the markets anywhere..a good variety of produce & products….as a child I thought going to Oldham Market was a somewhat magical place
This is a great market, often buy my fruit from there. Not been to Oldham, but one day I'm sure 👍
Lovely video. At 17:39, that tree is twisted, just like the spire. Must be something about the place. 😊
Many thanks, yes that is a bit worrying isn't it 🤣
Recognised the crooked spire in Chesterfield as soon as I saw it. Reminded me of our visit to this attractive town a while ago. I think it makes a lovely change to just do something different. We picked up local myth jokes about the reasons for the twisted Spire.!! I certain admire your momentum in walking/filming uploads which we enjoy - must be full time hobby for you.🚶🏻♂️ Nice music to hear in background. I somehow guessed you might like a go at the church organ.
Many thanks Shanita, it has indeed been a full-time hobby lately, not sure how I've managed it but there you go! 😊 I've got a few more to edit but I'll post just one more this Friday and leave the others till the New Year. Would certainly love to have played that church organ. I have actually played a theatre organ before, many years ago now 👍
@@solitaryrambler hope you enjoy time off and a great Christmas
Thank you Shanita, hope you and Michael have a wonderful one too 👍
I remember that spire as a child. Very unique!
I've been catching up on your vids this week, the peak district ones are my favourite. Keep up the good work mate, Paul
Glad you like them Paul, many thanks for your kind words and for watching! All the best 👍
No problem Sir, have a good Christmas
Really interesting video Patrick. Chesterfield is relatively local to me so I’ve visited many times. I even worked in the town about 20 years ago. I often forget the spire is crooked as I’ve passed it so many times. Non locals find it fascinating though which I’d understandable. Nice to see Queens Park again too. I’ve not been there since my daughter was a toddler.
Thanks Anthony, yes I guess like many I take the spire for granted now being used to it, but I was certainly fascinated in the first place once my attention had been drawn to it! 😂 When I go to Chesterfield I often park my car by Queens Park to get free parking as it's a short walk into town from there! 😂
@@solitaryrambler excellent thriftiness Patrick 🤣
Nah just bloody mean Anthony! 🤣
Hi Patrick. Despite continuing to take all precautions, Sheila and I are currently isolating for ten days, following positive covid tests. Your video could not be better timed. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sorry to hear that Paul. Many thanks for watching and do stay safe 👍
Looks like a lovely place to live.
👍
I should add I bought my first laptop in Chesterfield and got lost the first time I tried driving through! Ended up at Tesco.
👍
Despite ridiculous political nonsense, things in a market square go on as it goes on. Good to see, thanks for this.
Many thanks for watching 👍
Different walk in a town but interesting.
Thanks for watching 👍
George Stevenson of steam powered kettle fame, is buried at the Trinity church 5 minute walk from The winding Wheel.
