This is pretty cool. I love when people restore such awesome machines. I played a lot of Simpsons myself. I'm most jealous of that Killer Instinct cabinet. That was the arcade game I played and loved the most. I miss the old arcade days. Pure euphoria!
@@kismetsoul4593 thank you. We love being able to live arcade dreams on a daily basis. It’s a blessing. If you are ever in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, you should come visit.
This turned out fantastically! Pink T molding was absolutely the right choice, as was painting the hinge. The attention to detail really makes this restore. GGWP both of you
The Pink totally works. My favorite update is the color-matched control panel. It's a beast of a cabinet and the giant black control box always looked a little clunky to me, when contrasted with the popping color on the sides and control top. Nice work!!
Cabinet came out really steller and thank you for such an in depth restoration. I always love these. Making RUclips videos and running two arcades is no small feat so thanks again for such great content.
You guys made all the right choices with this one. It looks so fun, clean and updated. The pink trim is perfect. Great detail on painting the CP hinge.
Love to see a old broken down machine from my youth renewed to spectacular shape like this. Love the pink molding decision and for sure that black bar looks way better painted to match the blue colour. Excellent work!!!!!
I never comment but I had to say I'm glad you listened to the young lady. The pink T-molding definitely works with all the other pink. That cabinet looks rad. I would have loved to walk in an arcade and see that in the '80s 👍
The pink T-molding looks much better than I thought it would... although, maybe the pink going across the top of the marquee was a touch too much. I think that one strip would have looked better black. Fantastic job on the whole thing though!
Amazing job. Love the extra stuff you added with the artwork. It makes it better looing than the original. Loved how you made the hinge the same color. Great work.
So the Topper's Pizza that I grew up going to still has their Simpsons arcade cabinet, and yes it does have a fade from blue to green (this is because the top is sky and the green is grass; you can see it in the artwork on this one as well).
I love the donut edition! And I do appreciate the details. Just use a heat gut and narrow each clip on the wicos. Not that you should have to but it works - just be careful. I did it on my turtles in time. It’s in my basement and not in a public arcade but it works. I’m just thankful there are Wico replacements. The old ones are crazy expensive. Best of luck ❤
Great job, loved the video and thanks for sharing. What I would have done different: 1. Clean up the wiring and inside before painting, makes it easier. 2. Add the blue art to the front and top where you left it black. Adds more pop, especially around the speakers. 3. Yellow t-molding across the top and CP only, pink on the sides, it looks great that way! 4. Did you ever say if you went with repro-Wico's, original, or modern cherry joys?
This is so cool! I am looking to convert my upstairs into a barcade and I am loving seeing all these machines. What a wave of nostalgia to see a Simpsons arcade cabinet. It looks awesome! Would totally love this! I am a big fan of my mega man cabinets and my favorite is Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram! I loved the dual sticks and cockpit and getting to fights mechs was so cool!
@@ElectricStarshipArcade You're welcome and thank you! I've never thought about taking a video to document it lol I just work and move about through life. That would be a good idea to do lol we'll see!
This looks amazing!! I love everything you did to this cabinet!! My only gripe, and its minor, is you need to fix your vertical hold. You have half an inch of black on top. So you just need to adjust that to fix it. I love the pink t-molding makes it look sharp! Great job you two! I would love to own that cabinet. 👏👏👏👍👍
Great job! Just a thought...could you use paper clamps to hold the leaf switches tighter? Those things would add a lot of pressure and be easier to adjust than a zip tie or something.
im really glad you went the pink moulding. it really makes it stand out. I would have liked to see the gradient side decals beside the other restored unit just so you have one of each, but the end result is just insane! well done!
pink and teal is a really good color combo, looks pretty good a bit distracting but i think in general its pretty neat I think its slightly better then origional very 80's.
Many ways to get around the leaf switch problem. Drill a hole in the clamp that matches the holes in the switch and put a bolt through. Or 3d print a cap to keep it in place. :)
@@markdoyle9728 thank you! You actually don’t see the line in person. It has to do with CRT monitors and how they draw each frame vs what frame rate you camera is recording. It’s tough to film or even get a good picture of a game playing on a classic tube.
You did it exactly how i would have. The pink really fits well. Though I think ID have hidden the hinge by changing it so the bottom half goes Into the edge instead of hinge showing on the face like it was, though you can barely see it once you painted it blue so that worked well too. Only problem is you got it looking so fresh and new I'd be expecting a remastered hd version of the game 😁
I went to a local bar-cade, and there were 3 games I wanted to see more than anything. One was Cruis'n USA, which I didn't expect to find, second was any Raiden game, which I was very sad they didn't have, but probably the most anticipated was The Simpsons. The joint had The Simpsons, but it didn't have any sound, and the monitor had some serious issues with the colors being wrong in a large circular area from the bottom of the screen. I was super bummed.
It looks great. I don’t love the donut speaker stickers, mostly just because there’s something about them on black that i don’t think works well. If that part of the case was yellow or blue i think it would work better, but having that part of the cabinet be something other than black might throw some weird glare on the screen
Oh man, my local Major Magic (kinda like Chuck E Cheese) had one of these and I used to go there every year for my birthday and would play for hours on this with other kids 30+ years ago.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but instead of painting that black strip underneath the front panel, why didn't you just change it out for a strip of clear acrylic?
What about some high strength hot glue blobbed on the corners of where the switches are held in the Wilco joystick? Or a shim made from the wall section of a pop can, wide enough to bend a lip around either side of the main assembly holding mount, put a thin layer of rubber cement on one side. Wait to dry, it could give you that gripping texture to better hold that sucker in place?
@@brianskitch for me it’s been easier to find and renew older ones. In the case of a loud crazy arcade it’s best to just put micro switch joysticks in. No one playing the Simpsons has brought up the joysticks feeling weird. They just care if it plays.
