  • In this video I summarize all the work that was done to this 2011 BMW 535i with the N55 motor. This car was completely restored and all the maintenance was taken care of.
This was an auction car that was brought back to excellent mechanical and physical condition.
If you've ever wanted to attempt restoring a car with mechanical and cosmetic issues but were unsure how much it could cost you this video may help.
If you're interested in making an offer on this car you can email me at avemandiy@gmail.com
Special thanks to Joel from Rolley Motorsports for all the help on this car.

Great job on the refresh and good luck with the sale. People need to understand the the $5.5k you put into it would likely be over $10k if they paid a shop to do the work. The N55 motor is a beast!

Someone is going to get an absolutely AMAZING deal! Do NOT take anything less than your asking price! It's REALLY hard to find ANY used car that has been reasonably taken care of, much less up to date on ALL the maintenance -- especially one this old. It might take you a little bit longer to find that discerning buyer, but one you do they will really appreciate what you've done and be willing to pay for it. Kudos to you and whoever is lucky enough to buy this car. You put a lot of work into it. If I wasn't so far I'd come take it for a spin and probably take it off your hands. I took my first F10 for a test drive last week (a 2016 528i xDrive). A fully loaded-to-the-gills model -- I mean, this car had EVERYTHING except night vision -- for more than twice as much as you are asking. Every single thing worked though -- it was amazing -- I tested this car out for almost 3 hours. The 20 way seats were really nice as well. Only thing is, it needed an alignment, which normally wouldn't be a big deal. But when I looked at the Carfax, it already had FOUR alignments -- which freaked me out and made me wonder if something unfixable was wrong with the car. So I reluctantly passed. O

I've been watching you for years and am really excited for the new direction you're taking this channel. Mega-props to you for upending your life and diving in the deep end to give it a shot. That's how success happens and you deserve all the good that will come from it. As another comment mentioned, don't take a penny less than asking. The used car market is nuts right now and in my opinion, a car gone over by you is easily worth many thousands more than just cost/parts/labor invested. I still have my '11 E90 335i and don't need this 535, but if you did this same scenario with a white E70 X5 M, I'd give you ALL the money for it. :)

Gave me the confidence to pull apart the dash and replace busted vent louvers also. I was also able to have an intelligent conversation with the dealership about transmission fluid. Thanks again and good. Staying tuned. John

I live in Orange County and have a 335i. If I was in the market I would definitely buy it from you. I've always wanted the bigger body and more comfortable ride. Great job. I'm sure you'll sell it. Also, 130k miles is nothing on that engine and tyranny. I'm at 146k and car is solid from my maintenance.

I TRULY appreciate the work u put into the 535...... I truly want to buy it at the full asking price. The cost of the car & getting it here to Jacksonville Fl..... Would take everything I have saved up. But I really hope someone buys it for your full price. I've watched the video and most of the other ones on this car, many times over & over. Thanks 🙏👍

There are too many of these headed for the scrap yards way too soon.
They are beautiful examples of an old saying, "If you take care of your car it will take care of you."
I fell into my '11 535i Xdrive one night when a good friend called and asked me if I could help him change the serpentine belt on his car.
    EZ Breezy/No sweat I said...
( Genuinely thought and expected this would be the case... lol )
Turns out, it actually ATE the belt!
    Yup, I said ate.
The belt had slipped, due to an oil cooler leak.
It then wrapped around the crank and was subsequently pulled into the motor through the seal.
I've never seen anything like it.
Realizing that it would need more attention and skill than a simple belt change, I had to tell him it was out of my league as far as repair.
He was then quoted $8K for an engine replacement through a local dealer.
In other words, it was "Mechanically totaled"
I met with him again, shortly after he got this news, and he asked me this,
    Think you can fix it?
If you can, then she's all yours.
He slid the fob across the table and that was that.
It was anything but easy, and if it weren't for the help of another close friend in his off hours at his shop, on his lift, I'm really not confident that the "BaDmobile" would have avoided the same fate as most N55's with similar problems.
I've had it for over 2 years, put on over 40k in miles and aside from a HPFP, sparks and coils, I've only had to add oil and gas ever since.
Speaking of oil, that's my only gripe.
    No dipstick.
WTF, in their elite engineer mind, thinks it's a good idea to skip the analog measurements of such a crucial component?

I put about $1400 of parts into it, and did all the work on my own, and I've been driving it and it runs great. It also came with every option available from the factory! I’m a happy owner of my 2011 F10, Fresh oil is a must on these turbo charged N55 engines, every 3k or 5k miles.. I put Liqui Moly oil . My car gets OEM or OE parts nothing less when needed, cosmetically in great shape , interior has no signs of wear due to up keep with leather treatment and moisturizer on the seats , the only wear it had was on the driver side floor mat but I went and bought an OEM floor mat at BMW. A year ago bought a new set of tires, same as factory all season GoodYear LS-2 run flats. A BMW owner should know that these cars need to be spoiled and demand attention more so than your average commute 4 banger economy car, if you don’t you’re in the wrong market.

Even though the channel went in the direction of a "wheeler dealer", keep the detailed DIY stuff on the channel. Because of them, I started watching the channel and got some good tips for my N54.

    • @spencermaiers8322
      @spencermaiers8322 2 года назад

      Everybody's a "wheeler dealer", no?
Producing something good for a market price isn't wheeling and dealing in a negative connotation sense in my opinion.
Maybe he got sick of IT bullshit and horrific hours.
If I was him I'd do less perfectionism and fix it solid for the client and that's it.
Any car any time can shit the bed. These N55s chs he the filter housing and it's siezed. That's a engine design flaw IMO. I blew a turbo on an N54, drove it back w no oil at least a mile, changed the turbos and its still running perfectly with great power. I dohbt you could run an N55 dry for a mile back to thr shop when not knowing what happened exactly and have it run again.
Some bmws are worth saving, others aren't, in my opinion. I think bmw was at its best prior to 2003 for 5 Series, 2001 for 7 series and 2006 for 3 series in short.
The cars he is working on are probably all going to end up mechanically totaled out with little to no value (parts, cats) as I just don't see a collector market for bmws after they have 12345678 and all the various X derivatives.
In short basically after E series bmws that spanned decades, the F and G series cars are good to fix and sell for the last go round before the junkyard. That said the N55 leaks less oil and the turbos don't shit the bed and everything else around it like the N54 but I don't believe the engine itself is as well designed and strong.
If I bought a car accidentally as a know nothing buyer because my interest is elsewhere and I just want a car, I'd hit an absolute jackpot lotto ticket goldmine if I bought a car like this from a careful and honest guy like Vehicular DIY.
      Kind regards

Why do you say it would be good for a few years? Does that mean the car would be totally worn out or do you mean it should be free of major maintenance for the next three years?

    • @igotaction
      @igotaction 2 года назад +4

That would all depend on annual mileage but really for the next 50,000 miles it only needs basic maintenance, oil/filter, maybe one air filter in between.
