- I spend my first full day exploring Nairobi, Kenya's capital city. I eat Ugali for the first time, before walking around the streets of downtown, finishing the vlog with a trip to the Maasai Market and Giraffe Centre.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and RUclipsr who's been to 52 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017. So far, my trips have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known travel destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This trip marked the start of my efforts to make a RUclips full-time job.
After that European trip I went heavily into exploring Asia, visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan (seeing me cover a lot of Far East and Southeast Asia in particular).
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.
To date, I have not yet been to Australasia or South America. Though I am hoping to visit the latter sometime in 2022, along with a first stop in the Caribbean.
I've travelled to North America just once as a RUclipsr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was only as a child on family holidays.
I have just begun my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa in 2022, starting in Kenya.

I am not a Kenyan but I grew up there. Trust me, you need not worry about the giraffes , those people know how to take care or wildlife.
Yes!plus the pellets are their snacks, not actual meal, they eat leaves off trees.

Plus they don't depend on visitor for feed...the whole area is their habitat.....thats only when they interact with people....good lord
The giraffes just come for treats, remember they are in the wild too. Kenyans don't play about conservatism, enjoy.

Wow, this is crazy. I stayed in that very same Airbnb my 1st time in Nairobi in Nov 2020. It's in Ngara Flats near the CBD. The host is the coolest. That six floor stair climb tho was no joke. The rooftop ,one level up was quite awesome. Beautiful views. There were multiple restaurants downstairs with tasty cheap food. I was paying 250 to 300 KS for dinners ( US$1 = 103 KS). And a major supermarket Chanderama ( I think) waa walking distance away. Got all my groceries and produce there. Loved the space. That corner window view was awesome. I was being a digital Nomad and had great internet. The host remains my friend today. Great nemories. Bless up.
Haha Judith! She’s a great host. Small world.
@@JasonBillamTravel YES she sure is. I took her advice and went to the Ngong Hills. Same hills on her whatsapp pic. Beautiful views from up there and close enough to the city. I can't wait to return as there is so much i didn't do while there. The powdery white sand beaches of the Indian Ocean in Mombasa and Diani was a great experience as well. But the Masai Maara you are planning to visit is something I never got to do also. Beautiful country. Enjoy.

Interesting video, Jason! I didn't expect this luxury to be honest. I went to the Gambia back in 2016, but Nairobi is so much more modern than I expected.

I think this video doesn't give the full picture. One guy is was streaming there few days ago. Locals started following him everywhere he went and approached aggressively. Loved the outdoor markets everything is so colorful. But those giraffes, I had to laugh at the sign “please watch out for giraffe headbutts” 😹😹 I must have been a giraffe in a past life because I like to eat all day too 😹😹
The Giraffes in Giraffe center are the same ones found at Giraffe Manor(Most Instagramed hotel in Africa) which is right next and costs a whooping 1000$ a night. The giraffes graze in the wilderness where they are free to roam around but can also visit the center to get treats from visitors. The pellets consists of dry grass and molasses which is not harmful to the giraffes ,the pellets are also very tiny and easily consumable to the giraffes. You went on a good day and it seems there were quite lot of giraffes around, sometimes it might just be 2 or 3 that come around. The traditional vegetables you took are called Managu in Kiswahili or African nightshade, they are quite common in East Africa and are very nutritious. After Maasai Mara remember to include Diani,Malindi ,Watamu,Mombasa,Lamu into your trip and show the amazing beaches Africa has to offer.

Do check out, among other diverse attractions and features of Kenya, the amazing beauty and relaxing verdant expanses of Kenya's tea farms (tea is their main export). Jason! My mom and I love your videos so much! I really hope you haven't left Nairobi yet. I would love to you give a tour of the areas around the outskirts of Nairobi that we love. I'm gonna cry if you've left! I hope you enjoyed your stay.
Hi there! What are the places called? I'll be visiting next month and I'd love to see areas that the locals visit.
@@cjayw Hello! The places I was referring to are Ngong Hills, Kisamis, Pipeline(Kiserian) and Isinya in Kajiado county. Three of these places offer beautiful scenery for afternoon drives. I wouldn't say they are popular destinations for locals as we mostly go on drives in the area. A car or knowledge of the public transport routes is necessary for these areas. Is it your first time is Nairobi? I would recommend Ngong Hills for a Saturday hike. This one is quite popular with locals and it is really scenic and refreshing. I recommend going to the KICC rooftop for views of Nairobi . I go at least once every year and it is nice to relax(though windy) for maybe an hour. If you like thrifting, there is an open air market on Ngong Road called Toi market. My last trip was a few days ago. I really enjoy picking out really cute second hand items- It would be nice if you go with someone who knows the area. Lastly, I recently visited the David Sheldrick wildlife trust for orphan elephants and it was so lovely. The calves are so cute! I really enjoyed watching them feed and playing. I think there are a lot hidden gems here and there. It would depend on your travel preferences. Some more places I like are- Karen Blixen Museum, MovenPick the View restaurant(for the night view) and corner Baridi(lovely sunset at the end of the ngong hills) and if you do get a chance, go on a circuit drive in the outskirts of Nairobi(this could be my favourite thing to do) For places that locals visit, I am not quite sure I would represent a lot people. I feel like the place I encounter a lot of Nairobians is in shopping malls over the weekend. I really hope you enjoy your stay here. Welcome to Nairobi!

Thanks Jason. Welcome to Africa! I think the giraffes have a proper meal provided by the park which is a combination of the giraffes themselves browsing on the acacia trees within the park & some pre-prepared meals to supplement the not-so-great browsing. I imagine that there are not enough trees or bushes within the park to sustain them. The tourists only provided some tidbits to entice the giraffes to come closer to the fence-line & interact with the visitors. Is that good or ethical? I am not sure either but similar things are done in some zoos around the world. Wish you safe & memorable travelling.
Thanks for that - makes it seem a bit more understandable.
@@JasonBillamTravel - hakuna-matata & you're welcome. PS: if after a while, you start NOT liking the Kenyan & East-Central-Southern African standard meal component known in Kenya as "ugaali", don't worry. Many Africans find it too stodgy too. People eat it because it is the cheapest thing that provides the poor with enough carbohydrates to make them feel full for a bit longer than the fancier & more expensive options. I heard that there are some good & cheap "Ethiopian restaurants" in Nairobi. So, something a bit different to try. Good Luck.
