    "Why do I need this?" Well, you don't. You've been conditioned to think that you need to spend a thousand dollars every year on a new phone when the one you bought last year still works just fine. People are brainwashed to believe that they need this in their life as if they will be missing out on something. The same way people buy the new COD or Madden games EVERY YEAR. even though the games change very little if at all. You dont need a new phone every year. You're being conditioned to think that you do. I had an iphone SE for years without issue. The only reason I upgraded my phone and ipod was because they made it so neither of them would work properly anymore. They became obsolete. The phone wasn't working properly. the ipod wouldn't connect to itunes anymore. I was forced to upgrade. It's all a scam.

    • @haaxxx9
      @haaxxx9 3 года назад +2

      I used some Motorola phones for the past years like the G5 and the G7!
      The only reason that I upgraded my G5 is that it's had a crack on the screen and was bleeding out color real bad so I got rid of it and got myself a G7. Both of them cost about $250ish bucks since I got them with being 3 years apart from buying them. And yes, they are my most expensive phone that I paid for and honestly it's not worth it... The G7 is my last Smartphone that I would buy before strictly buying these "Dumb phones" for cheap. I just want to use a phone AS a phone, Headphone jack to listen to music that I have it installed on the phone and calling personal people. I despise social media and thank god I don't have a Twitter or a Facebook! Too much fucked up shit on there to see that is filled with Assholes or morons. I'll gladly keep my sanity thank you.

      Well the iPhone 6sPlus I bought for nearly $1000 beginning of 2016 still works perfectly, no lag. Its battery is at around 69-70% tho. I guess these iPhones last a long time. An iPhone 7 I got from my dad has lagged quite often but It's still fine.

    I made a video about using a flip phone for 30 days about a year ago! It had its challenges. No GPS and not being able to Google things was hard. I used an old iPod to listen to music (which forced me to listen to old songs from the 2000s). I found myself calling people a lot more because texting was painfully slow. And not being in group chats meant I was somewhat out of the loop. But it was very refreshing getting off of social media and disconnecting. I began checking my phone every couple of hours instead of every 10 minutes. Can't wait to see what you take away from the experience Matt!

    I see a bigger problem here: Our economy needs to change. We can not measure our growth at the GDP and force the consumers to buy buy buy!
    There has to be a sustainable component to it! The feel good wealth of a community, nation, continent needs to be given value!
    Because after all, our economy pushes the 4 or 5 releases of Apple, Samsung and others every year, as we need to consume and buy buy buy! :( This kills our planet. Very fast!

      @Averro 3 года назад +33

      @Cesar Gomez this is totally fine, at some point an upgrade or buying something is totally fine. Even I gotta admit I upgraded from my iPhone 7 to the 12 Pro now, as I didn't want to change the battery for the 3rd time. My mother will be more than happy to to upgrade from her phone to my iPhone 7.
      I personally (! (don't want to accuse anybody here)) see the problem in the Zara shopping cycle community, where every 2 weeks new products are being displayed and people really get those new products every time! Also Zara is just an example, which describes it pretty well tho!
      It is time to take out the speed a bit, let the nature re-grow, maybe learn to fix something instead of just ordering a new one and so on!
      Happy to discuss! :)

It's a bit of fun or relaxation it's not real for god sake. We usually fast forward through all TV adds but if we do watch theme we know they're just saying "give us your money fool". There was a scheme a few years ago where the government were going to make sure that every person in the UK had access to a PC. Of course they don't need that scheme now as everyone has a smart or iPhone and that's what the powers that be want. If everyone is staring into that screen then they're being brainwashed and controlled and that's great for this current agenda that's disguising itself as "the virus".

      @@SgtNicholasAngle I think the reason is that many people struggle to not use their phone for social media etc. even if they intend to quit is that it has become a habit. So using a device (for some time at least) that simply can't open these apps makes it easier to break the habits. I completely quit using reddit (only social media I ever used) but it wasn't as easy as just deciding on it, I still have a page blocker for it in my browser, because even after months the habit is strong, sometimes you need a bit of an extra tool to change your ways, and I guess the same goes for using a flip phone for some time.

      As if any Apple product would work after a decade, much less 30 years. Planned obsolecence is too polite a term. Got an ipod touch (a few actually) I can't use because its "too old for updates" but older apps don't work either even if you find them for most services. The hardware is still fine, Apple just wants to sell more and more e-waste, so they slowly bricked it, as they do all their older devices. Good riddance.

      @@mattdavella I have thought about downgrading so many times. Honestly if I ever felt ready to downgrade I would have searched for a sliding phone or old school blackberry instead. The old sliding phones were pretty much the same as flip phones, but they had a slide out keyboard that made it easier to type, and were specifically designed for 2 things, calling and texting. Old school blackberrys had a built in keyboard too. Since so many people hate phone calls nowadays and prefer typing out their conversations, I would have to have a keyboard on my phone to keep up with text messages from my friends and family. But otherwise I would love to have no social media on my phone, drowning me in notifications. When you have a smartphone people kinda pressure you into talking to them and participating via social media, since "it's so easy to use and have, why wouldn't you".

    I have that exact phone. Biggest challenge: people text me, I call them right back and they don't answer, and they don't even check their voicemail if I leave a message. Even my closest friends can't seem to remember that talking on the phone feels better than texting - tone of voice, and real-time back and forth of an actual conversation are an antidote to the loneliness everyone complains about, but they "don't want to bother anyone" by calling. You're not bothering someone who likes you by wanting connection with them! And to schedule anything, it takes less than 60 seconds while talking on the phone, but trading texts can go on for literally *days* and in that timespan, my availability changes. It's so much simpler just to have things scheduled than to try to keep juggling a bunch of maybe's. I have an old GPS in my car, and a chromebook for internet. Some things are actually more expensive with a flip phone because places like gas stations offer a discount if you use an app to pay, and you can't do anything that requires you to scan the data matrix.

    I would definitely consider this if my phone wasn’t my only camera and GPS

      Same. I had a iPhone 6 till this year and got an xr. Finally felt the camera was worth the $500 cost of a refurbished phone

      I think that’s the most powerful thing about this experience. It used to be that if you wanted a camera or a GPS you went out and bought one of each. There are entire industries around those product segments. The smartphone offered a convenient way to package it all together. The only problem is that now the smartphone tends to place itself in the center of our lives. We rely on these things. That’s what makes downgrading such an interesting experiment.

      Yeah, I worry about the GPS. Wondering if there's a long term solution for a GPS that isn't on my phone. Hmm...

    My mom didn't let me have a smartphone for most of my teen years because I had an iPhone which I did stupid stuff on and I'm actually very thankful.
    A lot of kids in my generation have had serious problems because of their phones, so I'm glad I wasn't one of them.
    I have a Motorola edge plus right now and when this phone runs its course I'm gonna downgrade to a flip phone. The only real inconvenience I'll have is not having a gps but I think I can find a way around that.
    Cheers to you, Matt! You're a smart lad.

    We improved products trying to enhance human capabilities, it turns out they actually impair our true potential and amplify our deficiencies.

      It's like a neck-brace(collar) , designed to support the weight of the skull for a while, but if put on for extended periods, it will weaken the spine and neck muscles,ergo causing over-dependence
