Hi Robert, I always love your stories! Even though this is a piano channel, I would love to hear any stories you have about playing French horn or mellophone in your school band or university band program. Did you ever play in marching band? I’m both a pianist and a saxophonist, and am a high school band director full time
I did play in marching band! In elementary school, they had me play tuba (not sousaphone) which was really heavy! In high school, I didn't want to blow my chops marching with a horn, so they had me play cymbals. But they were heavy concert cymbals (not light marching cymbals). My hands nearly fell off!
The ones that feel the best or most comfortable. I've gone over many pieces repeatedly looking for the best fingering FOR ME while understanding certain guidelines. But do what feels best and write it in and follow it only.
I mean, wouldn't the basic technique be: Sit up straight Elbows on the same height as the keyboard Use armweight and not just your fingers to play Don't abuse the sustain pedal?
Euphoniums have 4 valves and one can do exactly the same thing. Actually it doesn’t matter which fingering you use on a Euphonium it will always sound better than the sound produced on a french horn.
Another quick tip with advice that is gold. Merci Robert.

Thank you so much Mr. Robert for this tutorial indeed that's will help me a lot .
Very well put. Thank you!
My biggest issue in playing the piano is fingering. Not knowing which finger or set of fingers go where and it really slows me down.
