- Let's just put it this way, melee hunter is NOT a meme.
Part of the fun about Season of Discovery is that not everything is already solved, and thus, a guide cannot be complete with the absolute 100% best information, only the best information we have at the time.
As such, here's my take on the melee hunter. It's a TON of fun and a spec that I think the majority of people playing Season of Discovery will enjoy.
CORRECTIONS:
- Mail shoulders from Gnomeregan are obviously better than the chicken shoulders, I just had a bit of a brain fart.
- Deep survival seems to be performing the best at the moment when perfect conditions are met; e.g. full melee uptime on boss. I'd venture to say the reason why BM was performing better in the first week of gnomer was due to us still figuring out how to play the fights, but I see deep survival pulling ahead more and more over the coming weeks.
Does this mean that we replace BM rune with Carve?

@@plantbasedavid Carve would only be for when you're using Lone Wolf and Kings/Lion is provided by someone else.
The BM spec is good , only a few runes to change and you can switch to range depending on the boss fight. For the last boss of gnome for exemple of you lack people to click the buttons
Having a 3 sec stun for melee classes and bestial wrath against casters makes this spec virtually unstoppable in pvp. 1v1 you almost can’t lose. Hope the nerfs won’t be too harsh

@Camjay777 I doubt it. Now in SOD hunters are the ONLY class that is PURE dps, with no other option.they already stated that pvp was not their focus multiple times in their interviews. Week 1 hunters swarmed the top 10 and 100 dps on warcraft logs. Now 6 out of 10 of the top logs are mages including the number 1 spot. Hunter will balance with scaling. Most casters are still using full lvl 25 gear almost. I'm sure it might catch a slight nerf but then they just go lone wolf and survival to compensate. They can't tank or heal they deserve to be in the top of their specialization.
I make them alt f4 because I’m camping them with a shockadin.
@@PvP-ls7yoalthough I don’t disagree, the fact they are so strong in PvP will almost garauntee they get nerfed soon. After all, this is the Season of Hunter Nerfs.
you say in the video that the quest shoulders from Tanaris will be BIS all through phase 2, i would argue that the troggslayer pauldrons from gnomeregan is better with it's +12agility +5 intellect and +22attack power vs the +10agi +10 strength from the quest shoulders, not to mention the gnomeregan shoulders are mail thus come with a higher armor value

although it's really good rn, i'm just a bit sad that melee lone wolf will prob be dead next phase, because there simply aren't any talents worth picking in either bm or mm talent tree after you finish up sv tree

deep survival and deep bm far outpace the mixed spec in the raid at least. Deep survival is performing the best atm. Not sure any research was done here.

Survival is meh at best in PvP and considering the PvE in this game tends to be braindead boring anyway I will pick BM because it just works in both

Tame a wolf (longtooth runner) east in feralas, it covers both bite lvl 6 and dash rank 2. Then fly to tanaris where you find lvl 40 scorpid with the lvl 6 claw

And ferocious howl - is that viable? Or too much pet energy where scratches and bites are better.

Im praying for a aspect of the beast rune in phase 3.
In wrath aspect of beast give to hunter and pet 10% melee attack power.
And maybe a rune or buff for mongoose bite

Ppl want to nerf so hard hunters, but they dont really scale to high with gear, people complain so much about them in pvp but u can take out a hunter in a stun.

Is there a good reason for taking 5/5 Improved Aspect of the Hawk instead of just getting something like 5/5 Endurance Training and 3/3 Thick Hide? Is it just for the off chance you have to shoot for a while?

@@danni_darko Imp. Hawk only procs attack speed for the hunter on ranger attacks though. Doesn’t affect your pet at all.

I would consider skipping the parry and health talents for traps, and when big pulls of trash, rock trap launcher and explosive shot.
Does the pet actually scale off your ranged attack power?
Yes, you can test this yourself by checking your pets attack power, then clicking hawk.

Hunter really doesn't need any nerf. Just went to my 2nd raid, casters easily out-perform us by a mile.
Maybe if Blizz nerfs armor values we'd start to see some concern? But I believe Warrs/rogues will simply outscale us in time even without nerfing hunters as they are. Ranged Hunters need a lot of help too.
Hunters are pulling over 400 dps single target and can easily beat a caster, hunters are tier S right now.
Warrior gains barely any DPS with gnomer bis compared to prebis. Most of the items from gnomer are either worse than what warriors can get from quests or the same dps wise but with stamina attached. Warrior's "bis" weapon from gnomer is actually a downgrade for them, and they only put it on because it's comparable to prebis and gives a buff to casters. They aren't going to be scaling to anywhere near what hunters are already doing right now anywhere down the line without changes. Rogues might end up scaling comparably because their prebis isn't very good compared to raid gear and much of their damage is dots right now so they can handle the higher armor values better.
I also don't know how cooked you are but currently melee hunters are performing about 14% better than the next best dps on average (shadow priests), and their ceiling is about 15% higher than the two higher performing 99th percentile classes as well (fire mage and warlock). This is despite the two last fights in gnomer having higher armor values than bosses at level 60 do and hunters being fully restricted by that damage reduction. Melee hunter is performing 63% better than the next best physical dps class that doesn't rely on dots (warrior) on average, and 49% better than them in the 99th percentile. In fact, the 99th percentile for warrior is performing almost the same as the 50th percentile for melee hunters, the creme of the crop warrior being a mere 6% better than the absolute average melee hunter.
@@rixxy4674 Logs say differently, I see fury DPS doing 700dps singletarget. It is fucking nuts and half the group did 100 logs.
@@koin243 You're looking at an outlier on a single fight where the boss armor is appropriate for the level. Statistics for overall have hunters wildly ahead in the 50-99th percentiles, and their outliers are still well over warriors as a whole.

making rs doing a lot of dmg is of course fun to play. But ppl will cry on it and evt gets nerfed. Hunter needs something to debuff the mob, - armor, - attack etc. to make melee more interesting to play
where are macros for the ULTIMATE guide?
Thoughts on using a Scorpid to get around armor? We have the Lv 40 poison available.
Can't really tell at the moment-- we don't have sims for the scorpid and haven't been able to test myself. There's some interesting tech with snapshotting the poison with your Bestial Wrath which will be fun to test out.
I got rid of my pet and I am 1-2 shotting everyone in pvp with one wolf. 2100 on triple raptor strike
Don't care if survival might be slightly better than BM in perfect circumstances considering you literally never have those. BM has so far served me much better overall as I dont like switching specs between every piece of content.
lone wolf already sims higher than lion + BM ... therefore deep surv build is the best since you wont go into BM withotu pt, duh .. even deep surv with lion and BM is better than deep BM build
also on pull doing Multishot + serpent and arcane shot while running in is dps gain

Hey there, really nice guide. For the feint death trap combo is there any special thing u have to consider? I looked up some macros to not be in combat when I feint death, but it only works sometimes. Right now im using

Thanks bud! Yeah, that's what I use too. From what I know we still have a bit of spell batching going on, so spamming the macro should do the trick.

Pets gain bonus attack power from your ranged attack power.

Flanking Strike Damages based on pet attack, so slower pet = stronger Flanking

why would you put a point into Spirit Bond? 1% health every 10 seconds is ~ 30 health... total waste. If you see a hunter with spirit bond skilled, you know he doesnt know what he is doing ^^ Also... never put 5 Points into Frenzy, 4 is enough.
Two hander in pvp is nuts, get the bonebiter and delete rogues. Its laughable. If they pre evasio. Just trap eat and delete

@@zacharysmith1865 I don't know what logs you're looking at to come to that conclusion but they certainly aren't reflecting what the statistics page for gnomer have to say.
I misses when melee hunter feelt special and a niche for theory crafters.. Now it almost feels too forced. Now they just use op abilities and barelly know ehat makes melee hunter good.. like how hunters have insane high dodge and parry chance against melee classes... How they are beat scalling class in the game... Trying to make one shot melee macros for it...

This guide is absolutely terrible, do not follow this stuff... u are far behind the curve atm man. Also Wind Serpent is still superior to Cat, it's doing 55% or more of our Hunters Dps. Lastly the full Survival build is the best build, not the hybrid DM/Survival one. Play some hours trying things before u make the vids, almost everything here is false in the video.
