Every epic road trip involves road food so we begin this video with a Newfoundland classic 'Mary Browns' but is it any good?
We then begin our long journey north to St Anthony, Newfoundland where the iceberg sightings are coming in thick and fast. There are some gigantic monsters out there.
Do I have the stones to fly my expensive drone so close to these massive icebergs in fog and rain? I do, but I get way too close in this episode.
Ever wanted to see what a grumpy Amanda looks like? She lets me know in no uncertain terms how she feels about my 6 am wake-up call.
I'm lucky enough to drive right through a quintessential Newfoundland scene complete with a full moon, mountain, icebergs and a little fishing shack on an island. If it weren't so cold I'd think this was paradise.
After messing up my first pano attempt I give you a full lesson in composition while flying the drone. You get to see a screen recording of the drone remote while I shoot a panorama and talk you through the entire process. It's not as boring as you might think, honestly.
I also offer some safety advice for people making coffee in a camper. Whatever you do, don't do what we do.
Will Amanda finally cheer up and is that mayo in my moustache or something else? How do I capture a full moon blue hour shot and will the drone make it back from 6 km out at sea?
There's really only one way to find out.
Thanks for watching

2nd Best Book Ever? www.fototripper.com/stories-within-stories-landscape-photography-book/
a comment so good it should be pinned imo!
@@AlexArmitage You're hired!
Received my book last week Gavin. Absolutely wonderful. Many thanks
@@huwalban Brilliant. Thanks for the support.
Depends on who your target audience is? Please use more affordable brand cameras that are commonly used by most photography enthusiasts, such as Sony, Nikon, Canon, etc. They will be closer to us. Thanks !! 🙏🙏🙏
one of the amazing things about icebergs photography is that as opposed to other "location based photography", no one but you will end up with these shots - in an hour after you took that shot, the iceberg will look different and its position has already changed... beautiful, as always, work!
👌
Exactly!
Each iceberg is a unique shape and constantly changing. Incredible. Massive works of art.
Arctic ice & harp seals you start turning up around St. Patrick’s Day, and icebergs usually first turn up around 25 April, in the last two years the end of April two last week of May has been the best time to see icebergs around the northern peninsula of Newfoundland, in the past, it was not uncommon to see icebergs in July and early August, that was at least 15 years ago or more, in more recent years, the iceberg season has ended the first week of July, if you really want to see icebergs, you need to be up here before the tour season relief begins at least last week of April and all of May first week of June if you really want to see icebergs, I will warn you really need to dress warm, the wind that blows off the ice is very cold so dress warm.
I look forward to these every week. Quit waking Amanda!
Great video Gavin, lovely part of the world.
The shot with the fishing shack and the moon is haunting. It really ought to go into your next book. Just superb.
I just recently discovered you! I’m from Newfoundland and I just love your videos. Thank you for coming here! My goodness, what truly breathtaking work. I love my province and seeing it through your lens is phenomenal. Plus you guys are an absolute riot, my kind of humour 😂. Haha yes our iconic Mary Browns is indeed a good “scoff”…also a good “feed”. Can’t wait for more content, wherever your camera leads. 👏🏻
In the shot that starts at about 1:50, it almost looks like the camper is floating in the water 🤣
What about that grilled cheese? Was the second grilled cheese better than the other? Was the crusty part dark again or a nice golden brown? The suspense is nagging me.🤣
it was suitably soft in the middle and crispy on the outside with a minimum of charcoal.
Big Mary's are friggin awesome! and their taters are top! - Did you not get gravy?? What's wrong with you😅
gravy on a chicken sarnie?
@@fototripperno, for your taters 😅 ..wait did you not get any taters?? What's wrong with you😂
PS - throughly enjoying your Newfoundland experience
@@fototripper Gravy with taters is heavenly
@@Bluesykk agreed
@@ItsWillLee No. as you can see the lady ordered a pallet of fries so I tucked into them. I wonder if Mary's is as good here in NS.
Moon, fishing hut... wow. Great fun as always.
Iceberg Allie is, I have it on good authority, Clarence's mother-in-law. Avoid at all costs!
Lovely video..the icebergs are just brilliant..😊😊
Nice video even without a burnt grilled cheese sandwich. As a drone-less person, this video makes me want one .
I have always enjoyed your videos but these are some of the coolest...see what I did there?
Iceberg Epicness!! Awesome vid 🥶😶🌫️😎
Absolutely FABULOUS! THANK YOU SO MUCH💞
Fantastic images Gavin!! ❄️
The look on Amanda's face when Gavin is giving the disclaimer about jetboil inside 🤣🤣🤣
😅 She's a class act too~
Awesome video Gavin. Quality photos as usual.
Omg was that the Mary Browns in Deer Lake??? Thats my hometown! Mary browns has the best legs in town!!!! Lol
Ok the shot with the moon and and the choice of background music, made me shed a little tear 🥲 lol such perfection!
Correct. Deer Lake it was.
gosh i love the drone i plan to get one some day! showing the screen how you are working it was honestly super helpful to show me what drones look like when using them for the settings! love all the information you teach us
[Fishing Shack photo] Me: That is the most beautiful photo of an outhouse that I have ever seen!
Great video, thanks for sharing
OMG, so happy to see another GH video, 17 minutes isn't enough to feed me :) Awesome "burg" images.
Love those kitties of yours. We had to put one down yesterday that we had since 2005. Still crying.
Mary Brown's Taters & Gravy...yum! Some great shots my friend...the blues and greens in the pano and last shot...and the wave! Braver than I on that drone flying...nicely done! 📷😎
Awesome stuff
Some of those bergs have amazing shapes and tonality in the right light. Awe inspiring 👍📸
Beautiful
Fantastic as always
Plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is! For the uninformed and those of a certain vintage to remember that would be a commercial slogan for Alka Seltzer!
Awesome images/video as usual. Look forward to next week.
🤝
Oh man, what a Video … 😮 the insight into how you take your drone panos is amazing. 👍👍👍 … the resulting images are top notch. Cheers ….😊
Proper! The pano was bloody gorgeous!
Really cool pix! I also liked seeing how you worked your flying wingy ding. You might keep your lust for snuggling cats on the down-low. FYI
Never!
Pano worked out GREAT!
Great content as always - and the photos are great as well? Silly questions: do people "board" icebergs? If so, who would be first to try, you or Amanda?
I've seen people climb them but it's super sketchy.
Who doesn't love an iceberg photo ... but I'm bloody iceberged out after watching all of Alex's videos! 😛🧊 Only kidding but I do love a good van life video and I'll be stealing Amanda's coffee brewing technique ... I've heard she's taught Peter McKinnon everything he knows about coffee! 😏
On a serious note I really did enjoy you walking us through your pano technique with the drone. That was a superb shot!!
Hey that was a lot of fun! Fascinating, learning how you do the drone pano. If you're not careful, people might start thinking that there is a fantastic photographer behind that goofy facade. 😄
Iceberg chasing is to Hardcastle what Stormchasing is to Heaton.
Savage stuff Pal ! Those bergs look like they knew you were coming to photograph their final hurrah’s !!
A bit close on some passes for sure but hey that’s what it’s all about
another great video - thanks
‘Kin’ell, Gavin! 6km out?! What drone do you use? P.S would be nice to get an answer from you just this once, I’ve tried a few times… fellow Yorkshire person, small channel creator, very amateur photographer, & loyal fan 😉
Obviously St. Anthony was the place to be this year. Would be good if that was always the case. Maybe Twillingate next year!
Beautiful. Lovely to see Newfoundland this way .
Excellent job on that stitching business 👏
Now you own Amanda a Florida road-trip to compensate temperature wise.
another brilliant adventure Gavin, love the first image of the shack, icberg, and moon in blue hour, some excellent drone footage of these always changing icebergs. at least Amanda didn't,t make toast for breakfast this week, love you both, keep doing what you doing.
That shot at 2:57 is noiicceee
Caribou are what the species is called in North America and reindeer are what they are called in Eurasia.
Hi mate, you deserve 100k subscribers & more! Your iceberg photos are awesome (and the way to build such a pano!)
Rose and Jacks Vlog title before it escalated quickly
Watching your 'battery remain' made me anxious! 😰
I really think that I should stay away from icebergs
Don't get into poker, Gavin. An anagram of your name:
Having least card
The last iceberg image was really good Gav.
Great iceberg picture
STUNNING
Just amazing Gavin-thank you!,,
Thanks for the info on shooting pano with a drone and how to deal with motion(applies to any pano). When you going to get that rear step fixed 😏
superb video again
Seeing how cold it is, what must it be like in the Winter? I guess like living on a glacier.
I loved the drone shots. That last berg looked like a giant crab.
btw iceberg ice is the best ice you can get, lasts way longer then regular ice
Bigger and weirder, give it to me, Gavin and Amanda!!!
As someone also married to a glutard im glad im not the only one that uses that phrase
Nice ladder for the back of the camper!
Very nice, when was this shoot. Thank you
My oh my, awe inspiring photos!
OK, You got icebergs, a fishing shack and mountains. It's time to break out that polar bear costume and put Amanda to work on top of those icebergs. Get some killer wildlife shots.
Superb, thank you both.
Great drone shots, Gavin.
I have a unrelated question. What is the title of the song used for your iceberg video? It sounds so familiar.
Great vid...and explanations....superb result. All done with Nutty Slack too.
Perfect! As usual. Every iceberg has a story, but it's like a pathological liar. It just keeps changing the story.
Ha! Trumpbergs.
Absolutely wonderful images !!!! Your skill with the drone sure impressed me. Hi Amanda !!!!!
you ate at the dirty bird lol
For me, I think image 1 would have been more pleasing without the icebergs!
that was definitely a Caribou. Have you ever considered buying a fishing sea kayak. Sea Eagle makes exceptional inflatable ones you can go out close to icebergs and get some amazing shots. Fishing kayaks are very stable for photography. Great video as always.
Having seen large pieces fall off them and also icebergs in Iceland flipping over I prefer to keep my distance.
Hi Gavin and Amanda nice bergs lol... what mp size are u shooting with the drone for ur 4:3 single frame pano stitch is that the hassbland sensor mavic 3 pro maybe u can do a drone vlog video and full edit, I have the air 3 which I like but is only good in 12mp mode the stacked sensor acts as 48mp but in low light even dim light its horriable. but I can use 12mp raw and stitch to get a good edit happening..
I use the Mavic 3 Cine so whatever that is.
Do you ever get vertigo when flying out that far with the drone? I get so nervous when flying over the water. And the water sucks the drone down!
I only got vertigo when I was suffering an ear infection and had to look up in the sky. Yes when flying over water you have to keep lifting it up.
Incredible!
I would have opted for a slow shutter speed for the iceberg photos, long exposure style to capture the motion on the water, 1/3 or 1/2 of second. Great panorama nevertheless!
I'll try 3" next time...
The first photo with the iceberg and the fishing shack is a nice photo if you want a moody photo but it’s uninspiring😊.
OK I changed it for you, refresh and watch again...
Awesome as ever!!!! Love those icebergs!! What time of the year was this series made?
May
You know Gavin, if you ever need to get rid of the Sony a7riv set up, I know a guy who would pay a pretty gnarly bargain for it👀
Gerrin touch...
Bro, you have been officially adopted as an East Coast Citizen, Maritimer, Atlantic Canadian and of course, the most Magnificently Important, Cape Bretoner or the official, Caper 🙌🙌 Welcome to the family 👍👍👍. Ok Newfy too 😉
P.S. as always, love your images and vids. Oh, Amanda may be a Saint 😁😉
Last P.S. finally ordered a copy of, you guessed it, Stories Within Stories. Looking forward to the inspiration for my own journey. Thanks so much Gavin 👍
Thanks for the support mate.
Looks like deer lake
Putting my sensible head on for a moment (wait, it's a tight fit...) That was an excellent video, nicely balanced with images and a slice of life on the road. As a fellow 'Glutard' I sympathise with Amanda and the dread of wondering what you can eat when out and about. Now that's enough sensible. So where are these sardines anyway...😉
Ill give you $20 to land on one of those things!
add some zeros...
Thankyou Gavin and Amanda. You take this mere mortal living at the bottom of the world to some absolutely mindblowing and gorgeous places! And in all weathers! With a dose of humour!
Thankyou so much, perhaps I'll be lucky enough to visit some of these gems, afterall, I do have a sister living in Canada. Maybe it's time for a visit😊✈️
Blooming amaziballs my good Sir... :) it was worth the cold for our pleasure.
Awesome awesome episode . Iceberg images out of this world . The last one could be the next apple os background image !!!
That first image is definitely book worthy, Gavin.
Also nice to hear someone use the phrase "touching cloth", when appropriate.
It lucky i like icebergs! I also like squirrels, if only you could combine Icebergs and Squirrels.
Love the shack and moon capture. Great drone footage of the icebergs, love how the photos of these these will be unique. Look forward to seeing more!
Awesome icebergs.
Fishing shack in the foreground, icebergs midway and a full moon rising from behind a small mountain all in the same composition is epic ...... or is it AI 🤣🤣🤣, Icebergs are cool 🧊👍👍
I don't believe that was Amanda being cranky. I think it was a stand in actress. Another terrific video.
Yeah, first like, first comment! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
