    Totally agreed, super versatile lens and perfect for 95% of our work other than stuff that requires lowest light or smallest DOF. Great for events, headshots, portraits, products. I mean I shoot a lot of events that are low light and get fine photos out of it at high ISO's, otherwise pop on a flash and good to go in any situation. I was shooting the after party of a school graduation outside 11pm, pitch black out, pop on an EL-1 flash and photos all were awesome (EL-1 is a real game changer, best on-cam flash EVER on any system).

    There was a time when f4 was considered too slow for a lot of professional use. That was back when the original 5D, for example, was best not used beyond 1600 ISO. Today's cameras offer several stops more of clean image quality, making f4 lens absolutely practical. Need a more shallow DOF? A cheap prime will cover those situations, and do it better than the expensive 2.8 zoom.

    That was really helpful, thank you. I also own an EOS R, with a couple of prime lenses for the 14mm and 50mm focal lengths respectively. To be honest, because in addition I use Fuji and Olympus equipment, not to mention my trusty 5D and 5D3, the EOS R has not really found its true role thus far. But I have kept an eye on the retail prices of this particular universal zoom and I agree it would be ideal as a walkaround option. Especially as it packs away so conveniently in a smallish bag, as you demonstrated. Today is my birthday and I may finally decide to splurge on what would be a reliable, long-term purchase that would definitely be put to good use.

    Came with my R6 and for now I am resisting the urge to add a bunch of glass. I'm going to stick with this lens, see what it can do, and if wait to see if I hit any limitations. A "nifty-fifty" seems like a no-brainer and the 35 f/1.8 seems like more of the same, but I'm really trying to keep things simple and the bag light. For now this lens is working out.

    How is the dust sealing on this particular RF lens? I've heard photographers having a nightmare with Tamron and Sigma's current 24-70 due to dust getting sucked in to the lens due to poor sealing on the extending lens barrel. To your knowledge, does the RF F4 24-105mm L have a filter between the extending barrel and the main barrel to prevent dust from getting sucked into the lens? Or in your extensive use of the lens, have you detected any issues with dust [long term use]?

    • @ClassicGoldCigarettes
      @ClassicGoldCigarettes 2 года назад +3

      I had to actually send my lens to canon to have them clean a dust speck that got under the front element. They cleaned it for free, I got it back in about a week and has been clean since. That was several months ago and I use it a lot.
