Wicked footage! I reckon they should bring in a rule that once the car reaches a certain horsepower then they must run a X width tyre instead of seeing 1000+hp cars ripping off say a 245ish width tyre? Or however wide most folk run.
They run average road tyres because it's cost effective, the idea is to destroy them after all. Most purpose built burnout run tubs and shortened diffs which helps protect the rear guards when the tyres let go + having the tyres sit inside the guards help contain the rubber reducing the likelihood of a fire.
Why do the Australians HATE tires so much? This is so awesome! Cars like those are raced in the U.S. or just for show. Someone is having stupid awesome fun with these!
We have less racetracks here, but it's relatively easy for a few mates to lay down a burnout pad and go for it. From there it's become this massive thing where prizemoney can be up to $50,000 for the win.

hi Jake, this is acutally a highly skilled event, and is judged on many criteria. I am sure the event organisers dont want big drag slicks launching a car into the crowd.

Australia only makes fwd cars too now, as of a couple years ago.
All these cars are older.. not to mention hand built with blown motors? There's still rwd cars. Not as many as 10 15 or 20 years ago

900 rwhp all the way up to one guy with a 8000 rwhp top fuel car he uses. 😆 Most are around 1700 rwhp or so.
