During this quarantine, you're the one I've been binge watching to get away from the monotony and boredom of the walls of my house! Best part? No music, just sounds.. Plug in my earphones, close my eyes and it's as though as I'm there.. Thanks mate! Cheers..
You're welcome! I'm glad I can provide you with a form of escape from this strange world. Stay safe!
Couldn’t have said it any better. Vicariously travelling the world through the eyes of another. Excellent vlogs.

Glad you enjoyed the breakfast Dylan. I am a chef for LNER. You should try the evening meal trains! The 19.00 from KGX is a fun train to be on!
I always enjoy the meals on LNER. Can't wait until they bring back the complimentary service again!
What’s the KGX?

I'm on that train on Sunday
Where do you cook the stuff when your on the train?
The 1980's 225's had a stunning first class, with table cloths, uniformed staff in white and grey, like a 5* restaurant. The rise hour Pullman services were way ahead of anything today.
I'm very impressed by the interior cars plus the quality service and food. I also appreciate the way you present your videos. No talking.........just titles.
Thanks! Yes LNER's trains and service are usually great.
I try to learn English, and the voice: the door is now locked - what a wonderful accent. Thanks a lot.
That voice in the toilet comes from the annoucer who is on Southern, Thameslink, Southeastern, London Northwestern Railway , Chiltern Railways and Great Northern trains.
Her name is Julie Berry.
@@michaeladamson6732 "Hi, my name is Julie Berry, and I've been heard in more toilets than most women." Not an ideal dating profile but maybe better on a CV 😁
@@michaeladamson6732 well Julie Berry is a G, and so is the operators mentioned that use her
Also BTW transpennine express uses her as well
They have the same voice in the class 385 toilets
Beautiful train and spectacular scenery! Thank you for giving me a glimpse of northern Scotland (I've never been north of Edinburgh). Given the comfort, luxury and service of the LNER, I'd say the price for a 5+ hour journey (and with 2 meals, no less!) was quite reasonable. Another wonderful 15-minute escape to a faraway place. Thank you, Dylan.... your videos are outstanding!!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the videos.
Keep up the good work Dylan. You're much appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks! Still having a few issues, mainly down to equipment that's getting an upgrade soon, but getting the hang of it.
@@DylansTravelReports - Rome wasn't built in a day! You're certainly getting their, with each successive travel report being an improvement on the previous one! It's a shame that you missed the two lineside marker boards on the Highland Main Line which identify the location and the height of the two major summits which have to be surmounted on the journey between Inverness and Edinburgh - Slochd (1315 feet) and Drumochter (1484 feet) - not least because the latter is currently the highest point on the national rail network … with the short level section at the base of the Severn Tunnel being, of course, the lowest!
My Partner and I were to celebrate our 27th Anniversary on an Amtrak here in The States. He and I had to cancel our plans due to Covid. Your lovely voyages are a wonderful deviation from missing our trip. Thank you, young man for all you do, we appreciate you! Namaste!

Wow! You posted that quickly! I caught the date on the paper. Excellent work, as always. I loved your Amtrak videos and everything else has met or exceeded those. Keep 'em coming. 😁
Thanks! Just couldn't wait to get this one out.
I was last at Inverness in 1974 and I hardly recognize the place. I had bought an all-line Railrover and I went from here to the Kyle of Lochalsh and over the sea to Skye because the bridge had not been built then. I also went from here to Thurso, which was quite a long trip. Then I got the sleeper train from Edinburgh to Penzance. It was very hot in Penzance and I sweltered after being in an icy cold Scotland in the middle of June! Evocative and well-shot video. It is a pity the video camera had not been invented in my day. Thanks for uploading,
@Christiaan Overgaard You've gone a bit too far back in time. A video camera in those days was portable, but it only recorded in black and white. The camera and the recording equipment were separate. We used one to record our school play in 1969. A colour TV camera could only have been used in the studio and an 8mm film camera would have had to be used to film a train.
@Christiaan Overgaard Ours was only black and white. The College down the road had a colour one, but that could only tape broadcasts off-air. It was the size of a large suitcase!
No commentary, no damned music, well done, much better than lots of other sites!
Thanks 😁
Your experience is the same as mine. Heard lots of naysayers about the new trains, but they are superb. Comfy, fast, smooth and best of all, room to stretch out. 1st class is wonderful with lovely food and great service. Those views between Inverness and Edinburgh looked great. Will have to try that route sometime. Keep up the good work. 🍻
Hi Dylan your friend from St Louis Missouri what a wonderful train beautiful scenery really enjoy this video keep it on the rails happy trails
I agree! This route is beautiful. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Trying to get friends to take the Amtrak across the US this year. I sent all of your Amtrak videos to them. They are the best. Keep up the good work, I look forward to these.
Thanks!
wife and I took a trip to London and Edinburgh a few years back and took the train from London to Edinburgh and I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable parts of our trip. We did 1st class as well and was well worth it.
Especially as it would have been on the old stock 😁
Great video. In fairness, LNER didn’t design the seats. The Class 800 seats were spec’d by the Department of Transport, so LNER, GWR and TPE got what they were given. I don’t think either F or S Seats are as good as the old trains though F is definitely more comfortable than the concrete seats.
Thanks! I find the new first class seats better as over long journies, the material "airs" better than the old seats. That said, the old seats were still great!
LNER First Class looks lovely and very comfortable! Fantastic video!
I enjoyed watching this video, thank you for uploading this.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

Good lad Dylan!
I did the LNER AZUMA train trip from Aberdeen to kings cross stn, and back. You feel the push of the train as it pulls away from the platform.
Nice job on your videos! Got yourself a new subscriber 😊. That route is one of my favorites! Whenever I’m in the UK I always try to spend at least some time traveling by train (usually with a BritRail Pass). Last September, I rode the Azumz (1st C like you) to/from London-York. Was very impressed with everything.
Thanks! Yeah these new trains are great and they had to be with what they were replacing.
That snowy landscape is amazing
It was great to watch this. I've subscribed and will certainly watch more of your videos. I've been avoiding Azumas but randomly got one on TPE last week. It was very nice, to be fair. Nice to see you alighted at my home town too, where it all began!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos 😁
Good timing on the upload of the video mate. I'm taking the Azuma LNER up from Edinburgh to Inverness next week. I'm 6f 8 inches tall so opted for a single solo seat, facing another seat, hopefully I'll have plenty of leg room. The last time I took LNER up to Inverness was on their old diesel trains. I found them to be good.
Thanks again.
Yes you should have plenty of legroom in one of those. Enjoy your journey!
Really high quality video, one of the best I’ve ever seen edited on iMovie. Well done, I have now subscribed.
Thanks! Thankfully my days of editing my videos on iMovie are now behind me.
Seems pretty nice - hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to travel on one these new Azuma trains 1st class Inverness/London pretty soon. Thanks for the comprehensive review 😂👍
You're welcome!
The tape measure may not bear this out, but the new trains seemed more cramped than the old ones. My wife is a wheelchair user who prefers to park her chair and sit in a real seat. She had great difficulty sitting in a first class seat (on the single side) and needed assistance to squeeze in. And then to cap it off the train broke down at Durham and we were 45 minutes late at Kings Cross.
These trains are supposed to be better in terms of accessibility. Maybe worth an email to LNER with that one as that is a bit concerning.
HI! Dylan Thank you for a video of a wonderful UK's LNER’s train window scenic views. From Tokyo
Hello There, it;s good to see a review of the First Class on these High Speed Trains, great video, keep up the good work! Cheers Peter :)
Your vids are great info. My wife and I are looking at long journeys on trains for later this year and next year. This guide has helped a lot. Thanks.
Thanks! Long train journeys are a great way to travel. I hope you enjoy yourselves.
Nice to have a proper review and not just people moaning about plastic crap because they are replacing the HST's. I remember the HST's being moaned about because they was the end for Deltics, Peaks etc
Yeah, don't get me wrong I'm sad the HSTs are leaving but I'm willing to give the 800s a chance, as for the flaws go, it's simply teething troubles, most new trains will get those, the introduction of the HSTs wasn't exactly flawless either, but the 800s are starting to improve, TPE's 802s and Lumo's 803s are already pretty popular, the Azuma 800/801s are slowly but surely improving and will probably be getting more comfortable seats when they next get an overhaul, but GWRs 800/802s are the main problem and require more improvements, the overheating the GWR 800/802s had is under control as are the majority of the stress cracks, but there are still some issues with them such as the seats and the rattling that need to be fixed
Two weekends ago my wife and I went to London,1st class by LNER and returned home to Durham via Sheffield, the first leg, was 1st class by an East Midlands Railway, High Speed train. I found that the Mark 3 coaches introduced first in 1976, superior in all respects to the Azuma, quieter with much less noise when going over the points. The Azuma ride was harsh and much less smooth riding than the mark 3. I found the seats on the Azuma hard and less comfortable than the HST. From a comfort point of view I didn't feel we'd moved forward from a comfort point of view in the intervening 44 years! I see one of your correspondents, h bethune made similar comparative comments 2 weeks ago, interesting!
I think it's generally agreed the new trains are less comfortable than the HST stock in particular. The Scots are very lucky to get some of this stock but I'm not sure if they realise this even now.
Much preferred the old leather seats in pre-Azuma 1st class
Great video! I'd be interested to hear your verdict on the standard class on these trains because the seats are *firm* - very!
Thanks! My return leg was in standard class so will have a separate video on that in a few weeks.

OK, great to know 👍
Great review, I'm travelling up to newcadtle next month on the azuma trains. Looking forward to it
I have also used AZUMA First Class and have mixed feelings. If the train is busy and you have to use an aisle seat, the table-leg is immediately in front of your knees, in between them. This makes moving your legs around (on a long journey!) quite difficult as the table leg is in the way. On the older Mark IV coaches, the table leg is where it should be - at the end of the table and not in front of your knees. The breakfast is superb, as you rightly say - better than Avanti. However the daytime menu options are not always available - on one train I was refused a dessert because they "had no spoons" - even though I was carrying my own spoon! In summary, if the train is busy it does seem more cramped in First Class than on the Mark IV coaches they replace.
I didn't try any of the seats on the "2" side of the train but I found no issues with the table on the solo side of the train. Will have a look next time I go though.
A most civilised means of conveyance!
Nice to see a quick shot of Aviemore station, designed (with others on the line) by my great great uncle, the Engineer in Chief of the Highland Railway.
Nice!
I love watching your trip reports! Keep up the great work!😊
Thanks 😁
Britain is starting to have some really nice, modern trains. And electric too, very ecologic. The U.S. is also spending some major dollars on rail. Sadly my home Canada is not. We are getting some new passenger cars but that seems to be the extent of it. Meantime I'll ride with Dylan. Thanks for sharing !!
Hi! Nice to hear you're at least getting some new rail cars in Canada. I look forward to hopefully trying out Via Rail later in the year.
Britain started to have really nice modern, ecologically-friendly electric passenger trains back in 1883, when Queen Victoria still had eighteen years left to reign. Fifty years later - in 1933 - the London to Brighton route became the first main line railway anywhere in the world to be fully electrified, with nice, new, modern rolling stock. Spend a day in Brighton and you can still ride on the Volks Electric Railway, which carries tourists along the promenade, and see where today's high-speed, electric "Bullet Trains" had their origins!
Really enjoy all your train trip videos...especially the ones between Inverness and London...perhaps some train trips from Wales, Ireland and Cornwall and Devonshire in the near future? At any rate, outstanding job, Dylan!!! Thank you so much for these videos!!!
Thanks! Have trains from Cornwall on the way and have plans for some in Wales so stay tuned.
I was on one of these trains to York last year they are really nice comfortable trains with good service
All that drinking , I’d be pissing all day...lol
Great vid.
😂. Thanks!
LOL true me too
I like your content a lot. And, I may be the only one but for me, reading the subtitles actually takes away from being able to just focus on watching the beautiful video, because my eyes have to focus on reading rather than watching. Sometimes I find myself reading (to get the info) then having to jump back just to watch what I just missed because I was reading. Just curious if you've considered voice over instead? Again, thanks for the videos, I absolutely love trains and am taking my first Amtrak long haul in 3 weeks from LA to Portland. 🙌🏼 Cheers!
Thanks! I have contemplated doing voice over but I just feel that takes away from the natural sounds of the journey. That said, in my more recent videos, I feel as though I have taken steps to make the text easier to read. Enjoy your trip!
True, but I press pause so I don't miss anything. Also go back sometimes. We also take Amtrak long distance, trips from Syracuse, NY to Chicago Union station. Then from there to Portland OR, or Salt Lake City, or San Antonio. We always get a roomette as I'm a very light sleeper and there's more privacy. Also use points from Bank of America Amtralk Mastercard. Those trips I mentioned were paid for by points accumulated. Cheers, Bob
Interesting - I went Reading to Bristol Parkway on Zuma and found acceleration on diesel after Swindon quite slow and seats/vibration poor because, on way back used HST which was much better ride and more comfortable seats. AND, acceleration appeared faster! Anyway, thanks Dylan, very good report.
Thanks! I know that the standard class seats on GWR aren't grear on the class 800 but I found their 1st class seats ok. I guess the vibration is down to the class 800 being a multiple unit where as the HSTs are locomotive hauled.
I've travelled Gloucester to Reading on them, I noticed the seats were really hard in standard class, by the end of the journey they were borderline uncomfortable. Never noticed the vibration when on diesel but the difference in acceleration when it switched to electric from Swindon was incredible - I noticed we did 0-125mph in about 2 minutes when we left Didcot!
@@stevebrown1974 - Admittedly on a stretch of track which slopes slightly downhill towards London! One reason why the GWR's crack steam-hauled "Cheltenham Spa Express" - which on occasion during the 1930's covered the 77 miles from Swindon to Paddington in well under an hour - ran only in the "Up" direction, there being no comparable timings for the "Down" leg of the journey. How fast a 2+8 IC125 accelerates from a standing start depends to some extent on how hard the driver is prepared to thrash the engines in the two Power Cars. Accelerating from 0-60mph on level track can be done in under 100 seconds, but that's pushing it!
The diesel noise from the engines were far less intrusive and much less vibration than a Voyager by some distance. The acceleration on diesel is much more akin to an HST on one engine and seems rather laboured after around 40 mph. The performance on electric through is quite literally electric with very fast acceleration indeed. But oh those seats, not very comfortable at all and pretty nasty after a long journey, in both classes. Having recently completed journeys in First Class on a solo seat, that fixed vertical bar I found very obstructive indeed.
I gave the LNER Azuma a go on one of its earliest outings back in June from LDS to KGX in 1st class. Not gonna lie, I was mightily impressed by it. The service was great and was well on time and though not quite as comfortable as the units they've replaced, they're still quite comfortable too. I'll be on another one from EDB to YOR, 2 weeks from now when I'll be heading home from my week away in Edinburgh. I'm also giving trying out TPE's IET counterpart (Nova 1/Class 802) from LIV to EDB just over a week from now so I'll see how that compares to the Azuma.
Yeah, as new trains go, these are great!
Did Newcastle - Kings X the other day with LNER 1st class - best experience I've ever had in British 1st class. Also that chocolate pot was lovely. And free alcoholic drinks!
I'd agree! I'd have also endulged in some alcohol if it was a bit lster in the day!
Wow I’m impressed! They really took excellent care of you didn’t they? I’ll have to try it sometime.
A great video, I also love their first class trying out stadard next month myself so can see how comfy the famously hard seats are lol and also I don't think you can reserve the seats at the end of the carriages with no windows
Thanks. The standard class seats are ok imo. They also often use the windowless seats as extra luggage storage.
oh yeah theyre planning to replace them seats soon on all sets for more luggage racks which is a good idea
Yeah although don't know why they didn't just do that in the first place.
@@DylansTravelReports - Because the specifications for the new Hitachi-built Class 800 series Inter-City bi-mode trains, which currently operate on both the GWR and LNER networks, were drawn up by civil servants at the Department for Transport, whose knowledge of the railways could be written down on the back of a postage stamp. Post-production modifications to new trains don't come cheap and the most usual reason for them is to install extra luggage racks. Wow! People making long-distance rail journeys want to take loads of suitcases with them, and to keep their eyes on it during their journeys to make sure that their bags don't go walkies at one of the intermediate stops! Whoever would have guessed? Compared to a 2+8 InterCity 125 trainset the new LNER Azumas are significantly less powerful when operating in Diesel mode - something which becomes painfully obvious during the (nearly) three mile climb - banked at 1:60 - between Inverness, which is effectively at sea level, and the 1,315 foot-high gable summit at Slochd.
Seats are fine when sitting on but if planning to sleep bring a pillow
1) The recorded Audio on that train is provided by a super voice-over artist by the name of Julie Berry (www.julieberry.co.uk) with whom I have spoken to once, in person, on business. As such, it's slightly scary to go into the loo, close the door and then hear Julie say "the door is now locked". Man, That's straight out of Doctor Who!!!
2) I'm glad you enjoyed your breakfast. In British Rail days, you would have also been offered mushrooms (which were normally cooked in the fat from the bacon - delicious), and black pudding, and I didn't see any toast or bread basket.
Great video - keep 'em coming
Thanks! Huh, didn't realise that's who did the voice over (mind you, I haven't watched Doctor Who years.)
I can't say I'd have been a big fan of mushrooms but the black pudding on the other hand would have been a welcome addition. I want to say I was offered toast but just turned it down but looking back at my notes, I didn't write that down.
Really enjoying watching your travel reviews , very envious of you , have you done one on German trains , as I have travelled around there many years ago . Beautiful scenery to see all over .
Thanks! I have taken German trains before. In fact, I have a review of DB ICE coming up in the next few months😁
A very enjoyable film. I almost felt as if I were travelling on board a Nozomi shinkansen in Japan:-) It seems Hitachi made a great job producing Azuma.

Wish we had stuff like this here in America. We barely have any passenger rail here. Even Amtrak is scarce, and it straight-up just doesn't run through certain states.

Wait a minute, you paid $95 FOR FIRST CLASS?!?!?! We pay A LOT more on Amtrak on the Northeast Corridor (here in the U.S.) just for coach seats!
Amtrak is going to be upgrading our regular trains and it needs to upgrade to these types of trains, ESPECIALLY since they're dual-mode trains. These are NIIIIIIICE!!! Thanks for the play-by-play!
When I took the Northeast Regional between Washington and New York, I paid about $50 for coach. Then again, as nice as they look, the Acela Express is a lot more expensive than the likes of Azuma.
Lovely video. £80 sounds fine considering you also get 2 meals!
Thank you so much for this video! I am coming out to Scotland in a couple months (flying into Inverness) and will be going down to Edinburgh during the 2nd week of my trip. I was definitely feeling confused about which train and service to book, but after watching this video and your other one about the Azuma standard class...I will be definitely booking first class! Thank you!!!
Enjoy!
The Azuma trains are a huge step down from the trains they replaced. There is only one air-conditioning unit and it is placed centrally in a carriage. It is ineffectual and only good near it. Last I knew staff onboard could not adjust the temperature this was done remotely!! The chairs are poor compared to their predecessor. I use this train often and my heart sinks when I compare it to the previous carriages
@happysecret 180 , the previous trains were 225 which were electric , the ones before them i.e. 125 were diesel .
@@kennethhume8628 not on this route they werent. 225s cant reach the scotish highlands as it isnt electrified so it was a 125
My hometown station of Darlington looked nice and clean. Just a few days ago, it was announced that the budget for its redevelopment is £100 million although they say that plans have yet to be finalised.
( redevelopment ) ??? Looks fine as it is. I hope they're not going to demolish the train shed for offices and fancy flats.
@@bobblue_west - I believe that the existing building will be kept intact except for where a new footbridge will be built. It will allow people to cross the existing southbound main line and to access the new building which will be situated between the southbound line and Neasham Road.
Thanks, Dylan. I'm curious to know if Brexit has had an impact on the Eurostar, between London and Paris. Assuming it's still running, I'd like to see your video review.
Hi! Currently no change with Eurostar as we are currently in an 11 month "cooling off" period where we still abide by EU law. After brexit, the worst case scenario is that we'll need prior authorisation (similar to an ESTA for traveling to the USA) to travel to the EU. Eurostar services will likely remain unaffected.
Caty, Dylan is correct in that we are currently in the “Transition Period” where we still abide by EU Law but without the political representation in the European Parliament (MEPs), the Commission (Civil Service) and Council (elected heads of state/government) - however, it is not correct to say it is a “Cooling off Period” it simply isn’t that either diplomatically nor politically.
In terms of Eurostar, from 11pm on January 31st and presuming there will be No Deal the United Kingdom will become a Third Country in the eyes of the European Union - this will mean that should you be travelling by train across Europe you will need a Transit Visa per person, per journey (Outbound and Return legs), per country travelled through. There will likely be be extra Passport & Security Checks too. As a 3rd Country we will not have access to the same rights as we held as members of the EU - i.e. free movement of people, Labour and goods. The British end of Eurostar is set to become incredibly difficult, whereas things will stay largely the same for EU27 Citizens except when entering the UK.
Hope that helps!
Let me know if you’d like any further info
@@DrOwainGardner Yes it's the transition period. Why anyone would call it cooling off beats me.

Love your reviews. Would be perfect with a map of the route for the ones we don’t know about UK geography (big cities aside)
Thanks! Adding a map is something I've looked at but proving complicated.
Well done indeed and the train and stations are so clean and kept up plus the meals look far better than Amtrak ;-)
Thanks! Yes most of our stations are nice and well maintained. I've often found Amtrak meals good but I must say that LNER's meals are ever so slightly better.

That was very enjoyable! Lovely view with food and nice seats looks like my kind of train.

Thank you for this Dylan , I know what to expect 🙂👌🏽
Thanks Dylan, love the way the reviews are presented ;-)
Last week I travelled first class York to Inverness and standard class on the return journey. Very impressed by the Azuma trains, standard class is leagues ahead of the Cross Country I took to get to York for the connection. Both classes offer great legroom, obviously with first class you have a wider seat and plenty of table space. The overhead luggage space is good too, being able to hold a medium sized case with ease.
The staff were excellent and you weren't left wanting for a drink, with regular visits. At the moment they are only offering a "deli menu" and I found it pretty disappointing in comparison to my last LNER trip a couple of years ago. It could have been worse, I could have taken the Cross Country to Edinburgh and then ScotRail to Inverness. The Cross Country trains are awful; cramped seating, poor legroom, little luggage space and tiny overhead racks and from what I remember they discontinued what was a pretty dismal first class menu.
Great review as always!
Thanks 😀
The breakfast in the car looked very delicious!
I would like the railway company to provide meals for the green seats of the Shinkansen in Japan.
By the way, how was the train accelerating?
The train accelerates really quickly. Much improved over the HSTs and IC225s they replaced.
I seem to remember that meals were NOT included in the fare on the Easr=t Coast servive when I last used it in 2010
I do remember for a brief period around 2010 when everything wasn't as good. I think you also used to have to pay £2.50 to reserve a seat as well.
Great video! i Need to get a trip on one myself, been in the cab through work but was in a depot
Yes, you should it's a great experience. Although I imagine getting to go in the cab of one was as well.
Thank you for the video.
Nice journey and excellent description. The best thing was the old train at mayhem. And can you tell me that the diversion of tracks if possible?
Thanks! Tbh, I'm not sure about the track diversion.
Cool train. Hornby are bringing out a OO gauge version later this year, so you'll have to do a review of that!
Fantastic, watched Aberdeen too Penzance, now this one. Just subscribed. Fantastic video,s 👍

A really enjoyed this vid and envied you the journey. Couldn't understand, though, why you did shoot one of the most glorious vistas in NE England railway travel - the view of Durham cathedral/castle from the viaduct. Otherwise - top marks.
Thanks! Tbh, I'm not sure why I missed it on this occasion. My bad 😁
Bullet train with this exquisite interior kinda reminds me of rail travel in Victoria times.
If only they could relay the track to increase the top speed to 300kph and more.
We probably will do that one day but at the moment HS2 is being built and that will be 220 mph or 400 kph.
First view of your channel - excellent video - now subscribed 👍
Thanks!
Nice train, well maintained and quiet. I take it the table was fixed and could not be raised and how would the seating be for a bigger person ? Peace..
Yes, the table is fixed. People on the bigger side shouldn't have any issues with the seating as the seats are fairly wide and there's a bit of a gap between the seat and the table.

Nice!
Very nice! been binging these a bit lol
Hope you've enjoying them 😁
@@DylansTravelReports I am, thanks for making these every week :)
These new azuma trains used to had some light problems in some cabins. I hope they've repaired it now.
Tbh, I didn't notice any problems when I travelled on them.
Thanks for a great review. Did you notice what the temp in the coach was? I saw what looked to be a a heat vent along the floor. And in winter freezing temps sometimes it can get overly warm.
Thanks! The temperature was comfortable imo.
Great video Dylan. By the way, what is the app you use for measuring the speed? I've used a couple but the one you use looks better!
Thanks! That app is called speedometer. I think it might only be avalible on google play. The link for it is: www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=play.google.com/store/apps/dev%3Fid%3D5159036338926925133%26hl%3Den_GB&ved=2ahUKEwjZ88KPhPXnAhVSQxUIHe-MDywQjjgwA3oECAEQAQ&usg=AOvVaw01vJM9FZFW2bELTkBa29Jc
@@DylansTravelReports Brilliant, thank you! The ones I've used are called GPS Speedometer and DigiHUD. Using DigiHUD I got a speed of about 175mph on take off, 550mph cruising and 150mph on landing on a 737 last year!
Nice! I find this one to be pretty good on planes as well.
@12:43 I would be pretty p....d off if I had booked seat 58, with no window, so thanks for pointing this out.
I suppose (and hope) the guard would probably let you move if the train wasn't 100% full.
It's perfectly acceptable to move seats if the train isn't too busy. LNER let you choose exactly what seat you get on a seat map though and they often use the windowless seats as extra space to store larger bags.
My only ride on one of these was a packed train and had to stand in the coach end near the toilet, i've never been thrown about so much as this in any other coach. I can't coment about the ride quality from the seated possition but nothing has been able to match the hst mk3 for ride quality.
I didn't notice any issues myself but I could have just got lucky.
Great video mate
Thanks!
Has to be the best use of a young persons railcard.
Apparently London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has 23 Class 800 Azuma Bi-Mode (13 Class 800/1 5-Car and 10 Class 800/2 9-Car) and 42 Class 801 Electric Azuma (12 Class 801/1 5-Car and 30 Class 801/2 9-Car).
Making the total of 65 LNER Azuma IET sets on the LNER (East Coast Main Line) network. 40 9-Car and 25 5-Car. And yes these Azuma trains are really nice.

Hi Dylan any chance off doing first class or standard class from Aberdeen please as me and a friend will be travelling on that route after travelling up from London Euston on the Highlander Sleeper service sometime in june
Hi. I don't often find myself in Aberdeen nor do I have any planned trips there atm but the seating and service is exactly that same as in this video. I think the journey time is about an hour shorter though.
@@DylansTravelReports I have done both routes in the past (in HST days) and would agree. Bonus on the Aberdeen route is crossing the Tay and Forth bridges!
Dylan could you not have got a seat without a restricted view?! The carriage is only 30% occupied 😩
Still, nice video 👍
Thanks! I didn't have to lean forward to look out of the wondow so, for me, it wasn't enough of a problem to warrant moving.
Maybe you should try standard class next time, I travelled Montrose to Edinburgh in Feb 2020, there was no information systems working outside or inside that ment no coach had exterior lettering, also the quiet coach is now in the middle of the train next to buffet car which means ever one walks through, also you get the delights of a diesel engine vibrating under ya feet the seats are hard and uncomfortable, and the toilets were either flooded with water or out of service, this was at10:30 in the morning!! Next time I will use ScotRails HST service, I now understand GWRs passengers constant complaints about these Plastic trains,
My return journey was in standard class so stay tuned for that.
I dont even go on trains yet im watching this lmao
I've done York to Elgin hundreds of times and more often than not went first class atleast one of the ways, usually up, as it was normally cheaper when booked in advance. I would binge eat bacon sandwiches and drink free coffee and cider until Aberdeen, where it was back to the good old Turbostars and 46's 😂 That was when it was National Express and East Coast.
Another superb video review!! Well done sir
Thanks 😁
Really awesome! I think LNER has the best configured class 800/801/802 out there. The meal looks really good. Also, are the seat tables fixed? They seem to obstruct quite a lot of space.
Yes the tables are fixed with the exception of the priority seats; their tables can be folded in half like on the HSTs.
