Thank you for an excellent matter-of-fact review. The Meriva is a car for me - quirky looking and very practical. Sadly, such vehicles are being replaced by omnipresent crossovers
Good review. The car looks great. I have one a white 1.4 140bhp petrol SE model. Trouble is although bigger than the old Meriva in width its not that much bigger inside. Also the six speed manual gear box is rubbish. Many fail around 70k miles including mine. My old 1.6 petrol Meriva with a different 5 speed box has hit 108k on the same gearbox with no problems.
I have have the 1.6 diesel 110 hp in my Astra which I have now had for 12 months it is a lot better then my old 1.4 tdi polo which has it got old start to sound like a tractor it also faster enough for my the biggest Surprise is I am getting more mpg
Very interesting although I must disagree with the performance figure My 1.4 turbo petrol version returns about 30 mpg with very careful driving. Really like the car otherwise apart from a couple of early water and engine issues.
Mines a 2014 1.4 turbo version, and its been the most unreliable car I've ever had the misfortune to encounter, never mind own. In 3 and a half years of ownership its cost me nearly £7,000 in repairs.
What are you talking about fool ? Anyone that is looking for used Meriva B would choose much more reliable A17DT not garbage 1.6 cdti. At least anyone with any car knowledge.
I have never understood the motoring press's insistence that this is a B platform MPV. To me it's an obvious direct competitor to a Ford C Max
No problems with my 1.4 turbo 6 speed... 108 000km full service history. Just take good care of your Riva..... 😁

Thanks for watching!

There is also 120hp turbo version which has the oldschool 5-speed manual, and those are bulletproof.
Never mind all the needless toys we don't need, does it have proper full spare wheel?
Mine came with one :)

Unreliable engine… 1.4 turbo blew up at 60k
That may have been your experience but the same engine has powered hundreds of thousands of vehicles millions of trouble free miles.

Car knowledge?
1.6 is a rubbish engine. The 1.7 it a much better unit
