Honestly I know what you're saying. Sega of America owes us 32X games. They should open up the manufacturing Assembly line and company and start re- issues games and making new games as well! Ordered mine first thing this morning. Couldn't believe what I was seeing, been hoping for a rerelease for years. Yeah, an original NTSC-J cart is ridiculously expensive, typically one of the highest priced carts on the platform.
Eliminate Down is such an excellent shooter and I'm so glad to see Retro Bit giving it another release. It's tough but like you noticed you have to strategize and take advantage of the different weapon directions and powering up. Fun game!
Eliminate Down is part of the Holy Trinity of shmups on the Sega Genesis. The Trinity being, Eliminate Down, Gaiares, and Musha. The Thunderforce games have their own Trinity!

Emulated this a few years back as didn't want to take out loan to buy it. Amazing game and I absolutely loved it. Very happy to hear its getting a Re-release because it really deserves it and so do I! Thanks for the video as I had no idea about this release.
Good that the game has got a reprint/rerun - as long as it's clear that it's a re-issue to avoid confusing collectors. I certainly would not pay a thousand dollars for it.
Would like to mention something not included in the video that may be helpful. You can also read this info in retro bit's shipping updates: Once the game is ready to ship, extra copies are first sent to any retro stores that carry Retro Bit products then the individual pre-orders are separately shipped to the vendors that sold pre-orders to ship to the buyers directly. Gist is that you may yet still get a chance to pick up a copy even if you miss the preorder window if you have a store local that carries Retro Bit products.

I have a original CIB Korean Mega Drive ver of this game that I got back in 2010 for $110 in some SEGA forum. Still have it :) I wish i could have the Jp ver but i will never stoop in paying over $1000 for this game or ANY game.

This is a fantastic game. It looks and sounds awesome, and i got my copy through last Saturday. I'm glad to have it in my collection without having to sell a kidney to buy it.

Thanks Mike for another great horizontal shooter after ZPF and R type. I had never seen this game, and it is definitely a cool-looking one. I’m not sure if I like that constant weapon-switching requirement.. I basically stuck to the heat seeking bomb all the way when playing TCK. LOL
What were you using to play Eliminate Down? I used a repro and a SD Cartridge with a CRT and Sega Genesis with the YM2612 (which was removed due to Sega of America's early 90s management cutting the retail price) and the weapons sounded fairly good just not the main draw as the soundtrack and explosions as well as enemy fire... see this game like GleyLancer does a lot of work and it really angers me that back then Sega of America acted like these games did not exist while they favored other rubbish. Glad to see you finally played this gem as it goes above the watermark and proves that the Sega MegaDrive is really a mass produced arcade hardware of the late 80s.. had this game been localized and hopefully without butchering the name like how SoA did ThunderForce, it would have blown us all away and probably made us forget that R-Type and Gradius ever existed.
Are you telling me that Genesis version 1 got it's good sound chip removed? or are you telling me that it got removed with the launch of the Genesis version 2? Michael is probably using a Mega Drive II with the crappier sound chip because he is just that clueless.

I dumped the ROM to cart and am playing on my MD MK1 gen1, and then capture the footage through my OSSC. The game looks so much better on a CRT TV and the sound through my amp is stunning. I wish devs back then used the master system Z80 chip in the console back then to help with the music. The Z80 is the audio processor for the Neo Geo. If they had we would have got arcade perfect audio. I always think of the MD and Genesis as the little brother of the Neo Geo, the games ported over from SNK to the Genesis are so good and much better than their SNES ports.

There is a re-release from Retro-bit. This is an officially licensed release. However it's an original looking version from the 90s then it's fake. Mega Man in the Genesis was only available to download on the Sega channel I believe.

as a hardcore MegaGen collector, i am at a point were any "re-release" for this console struggles to elicit a yawn from me. yes, retro-bit makes good quality repros BUT they are just repros in the end. the megagen indie dev / homebrew community is SO active and SO talented that new IPs should be created / fostered / acquired and released by physical megagen publishers rather than repros of games that already had physical releases. If you insist on re-releases, pick a reMAKE thats blows the doors off the original...do something dangerous for a change! If limited run (heaven forbid) has taught us anything, its that ANYTHING can be negotiated!
I think the market is so healthy for Segas 16bit console that there are quite a few companies now offering loads of different options for different collectors and gamers. There are a good 5-6 indie dev publishers helping indies to bring original games to the platform. You have the indie devs that are porting classic games like R-Type and Final Fight, you have companies like Retro-bit making official re-release, and small companies selling unofficial repros. This I think is a really healthy eco system. And while I don't use all of them other people do which keeps the scene alive. I would also love to see some indie remakes. I think that they are worried about being sued though.
No Mega Drive game should ever cost that much. My limit is $200 anything over that has to be better than sex. No wonder a lot of us here have commented on purchasing the exact same game dirt cheap from China.
I think it's supposed to be one of the most expensive games made. Well this rerelease is officially published and region free so it's a great option for me.

Yet i've seen Panorama Cotton for $14 dollars from China and it includes the English translation. I'm seriously done with buying original carts when repros offer the exact same thing for almost nothing and I like the thicker pcb boards as it makes contact each and every time with the pins. No blowing on the carts a hundred times trying to get them to display the Sega logo.

Stupidly expensive, but this official re-release will be perfect for quite a few of us.
The gameplay reminds me of armed 7 on the Dreamcast. From the missiles coming up from the ground and enemy placement.

I hope alot of these games eventually makes their way to evercade so it's not just limited run and hopefully it's reduced in cost down the road.

I thought the weapon swapping was very clever, and the dev team used the enemy patterns to leverage this gameplay mechanic.

😅 I liked the mechanic but it gets a bit Bullet Hell later on and I really can't play those types of games.
Easy mode. I'm sold. So far I've only managed to get to the beginning of the third level in Gaiares lol.

I randomly saw strictly limited post it on twitter so I instantly hit that buy button as I've played it before and thought it was amazing!
I'm really impressed with the combat mechanics and how the enemy formations utilize this.

@@RetroGamerBoy M.U.S.H.A. is up there for $1000 too and Panorama Cotton (another Jap only release) is worth twice as much. Yet i've seen Panorama Cotton for $14 dollars from China and it includes the English translation.
I'm seriously done with buying original carts when repros offer the exact same thing for almost nothing and I like the thicker pcb boards as it makes contact each and every time with the pins. No blowing on the carts a hundred times trying to get them to display the Sega logo.
