    My Blog: dragonsarmory....
I want to state first that I did not animate the figures in the painting, that was done by the marvelous NPM 國立故宮博物院
Please check out their links and see their original videos below. These will be much longer, and without any audio.

    • 古畫動漫─明人出警入蹕圖04 Paintin...
In order to distinguish from their videos I have made sufficient editing changes as well as inserted music to heighten the sense of immersion for you all.
    SUBJECT
The video depicts segments of the famous Ming scroll painting 出警图 "The Departure Herald" from the Jiajing reign period (1522-1566 AD); the painting shows the emperor's large imperial procession heading towards the imperial tombs of the Ming emperors located roughly 50 km north of the capital Beijing. The famous painting is currently housed in the National Palace Museum of Taiwan and could be viewed in detail here.
    commons.wikime...
For more about the particulars of the soldier's equipment, please check out here:
    dragonsarmory.b...
Encapsulated into both scrolls, the artists depicted the entire event over time and space from the departure, arrival at the destination, and return to the capital. The traditional means of viewing "Departure Herald" is from right to left, whereas "Return Clearing" is from left to right. "Departure Herald" represents the emperor riding a horse, taking land route from the capital, while in "Return Clearing", he is shown riding on a boat, taking a water route back to the palace.

Many wonder what the world would look like if the Roman Empire hadn’t fallen.
But I always wonder what it would look like if the Ming survived…
Chinese culture remains pure. They would’ve probably avoided the century of humiliation and advanced China to the level of the Europeans in the 17th to 19th century. Many lives would be saved from foreign invasions under their leadership instead of the Manchus’.
    One could only dream 😢

I wonder how the 2 handed cutting polearms were used tactically. They obviously take up the slot that could have been used for a lance. I guess it's for skirmishing instead of getting stuck in delivering shock. Use the reach of the polearm to get in a devastating swipe and then move on, similar to how one would use a curved saber. It seems only oriental agrarian empires use this with their cavalries. The mongols weren't known to be big users.

    • @majungasaurusaaaa
      @majungasaurusaaaa 3 года назад

@Jimmy Xie Also, mongol lances often featured hooks. In order to make use of them to unhorse heavily armored riders, one must use 2 hands, making them 2 handed polearms as well.
Modern parades feature real battle field weapons in their usual configuration. You wouldn't spend millions into fake props.

    • @Intranetusa

Constantinople really fell when the Crusaders sacked the city during the 4th Crusade centuries before the Ottomans came. The Eastern Roman Empire was just a rump state and Constantinople was a shadow of its former glory by 1453. And if the Han Dynasty didn't fall when it did, we wouldn't have famous stories such as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and we'd probably be left with a rump state that limped on for a few centuries as an extremely corrupt and ineffective empire that faded slowly into history.

These are only used for procession I believe, but the Ming did fight war elephants in SE Asia, the Ming fought the Mac dynasty of Vietnam and used long barreled fowling guns to shoot Mac dynasty's war elephants. The Burmese and the Lao of Kingdom of Lan Xang also had fielded war elephants.
Before the Song dynasty, in the long civil war of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the founders of the Song dynasty fought a southern Chinese dynasty that had large numbers of war elephants. Eventually, rockets and ballista fires eventually destroyed the elephant formation.

      Every empire rises and declines.
At Ming's peak, Ming army defeated Mongol hordes countless times, capturing tens of thousands Mongol nobles(Battle of Buir lake), conquered Manchuria and Yunnan from Mongols and conquered Vietnam in just one year.
But Ming later, like every other empire, got corrupted and lost the power, and even the control of taxing to landlords.
Famines as well as rebellions happened. Ming finally was destroyed by Li Zicheng's rebellion. Fomer Ming general Wu Sangui taking the rest of Imperial army, allied with Manchu to defeat Li.
So what can I say though?
Ming does have its own glories over its humiliations in its ending time.

The Ming Dynasty was overthrown by peasant uprisings. The last emperor committed suicide when the peasants invaded Beijing.
But the border forces of the Ming Dynasty were opposed to the peasant forces that invaded Beijing.
The border troops of the Ming Dynasty opened the Shanhaiguan to invite the Qing army into the border to fight the peasant insurrection army.
The Manchus integrated the Mongol and Han armiesCreated the Mongolian eight riding, Manzhou eight riding, Han army eight riding.
With the help of the last frontier guards of the Ming Dynasty, the whole of China was successfully conquered.
