I don't know if anyone noticed this but your teammate Soldier 76 at 46:12 had figured by then that you're a totally new player. I saw the whole video, and during that match, multiple times he was playing near you to help you and put his biotic field so you get heal, which made me feel happy because that's what I do when I find new players. This video makes me feel like I'm new to overwatch again haha thank you for creating this content
I've been playing for 7 yrs so it's easy to notice when someone is new. I play a lot of support so I always try to help new people more when I can, unless they're just running in and feeding. There's honestly not much I can help with there tho 😅 I can't out heal that kinda damage.
Watching that first game against real players was such a treat! You actually did really well for someone with little-to-no mouse and keyboard fps experience. You were taking angles and shooting from range intuitively, and followed your intuition on following tanks and self-healing. All great instincts for this type of game! Excited to see you progress and if you stick with OW :) Thanks for going on this journey. As a player since 2016, its been a joy to relive the emotions those cinematics and trailers bring up with someone new watching it, and seeing gameplay through the eyes of a beginner again.
OW is genuinely one of, if not the hardest FPS game to learn. Don't feel discouraged! You already know to wait for your team, to pick up health packs, and to use cover so you're better than most brand new players

Welcome to Overwatch! Starting out, you should be pressing your F1 key to continually learn and read your hero's kit (you can do this mid-match too), it's overwhelming at first but take it slow and build your knowledgebase! For example, on Pharah the rocket launcher lady you tried, you will see she can actually fly if you hold jump. I hope you play more!
This was so entertaining to watch! I'm a 49 year old guy whose daughter played OW2 for a year and then suggested I try it out too. Now I've been playing the game for a year too and I have like 500 hours on just Moira alone 😅 It felt a bit overwhelming at start because I went straight to unranked matches without even realizing there's a possibility to play against AI.
The people who play against the AI bots are much nicer than the PvP unranked mode. It's probably best to use that mode until you become comfortable with a hero or two. When you see the red skull pop up in your cross hair, it means you successfully killed someone. Overall this video is really humbling to me, as someone who has a decent amount of the game and can be rude when things don't work out in-game. I wouldn't be surprised if a few OW content creators react to this video. I really enjoyed watching you check the game out and I would love to see more in the future. In the mean time, I am going to take a step back from being so hard on randoms

hey! i'm a long-time overwatch player and i'm so happy to see someone new enjoying the game! i hope you had fun! here's some little tips for the heroes you tried: - Phara can do huge damage, but she can be very vulnerable on the ground. Use her abilities to fly up high and shoot the enemy from above. She can be a really valuable distraction! - Honestly you had a good grip on Soldier, and getting better will just come with time :) - Winston does best at running in and doing close-range damage and then quickly jumping out when he's low on health. - Tracer can blink around, and her recall ability reverses time a few seconds. She plays very similar to winston, where you blink in, do damage, and rewind to get your health back. Sorry for the wall of text! I'd also recommend Lucio if you want to try a healer. He was the hero I learned first! Have fun! ❤️ (also, if you want to learn via videos, I recommend the youtuber Emongg, he's one of the nicest voices in the overwatch community and I learned a lot from him!)
As a player with hundreds of hours I enjoy seeing new players trip over ahhAhah it's so heartwarming. 😅 You'll notice the abilities the heroes have are represented in the cinematics you saw. The "nerf this" thingy that got you several times is Dva autodestroying her mech and throwing it away LOL You are also right, the team compositions were off (in your team mostly...) so it makes it even more dificult to play. The thing I noticed punishing your gameplay is not hearing someone shooting at you from your sides or behind... but is OK as you are still getting used to recognize each hero sound (they are intended to be VERY distinct). Chill plays! had fun watching and suffering with you 🤣
As a longtime player, its so genuinely nice seeing new players!! I reached masters in rank a few weeks ago (FINALLLYYYY) , and remember when we all started like this in 2016, love that you're willing to try something new. if you have any questions, the overwatch community tends to be really nice (with a few exceptions, it is a shooter after all, trolls are inevitable). Keep practicing and you'll do great. At first, its a steep learning curve, but once you've played one shooter on PC you'll kinda be able to take that skill into *most* other FPS games. Single player or PVP. It really opens a lot of avenues for some great games! Most of the learning curve of OW isn't just aim, its positioning and game knowledge (when to ult, ect), which just takes time and practice. Much love, and good luck in your matches!
One of the things I love about overwatch is how immersive the gameplay is. The maps and characters all go together so well, and after you play a while, you could go back to the cinematics and recognize the locations. There are sound cues for everything, along with visual, they just take a while to learn.
some tips for new players - you can see your selected hero's abilities by holding F1 - you will unlock the new heroes by playing the game and complete the challenges but you can try every heroes in Practice Range - mercy can switch her healing staff to a pistol by scrolling on your mouse - when you play pharah you can hold "space bar" to fly - when you play widowmaker its better if you play on a high ground (use your grappling hook to get there) and snipe them with your right click - press R to reload but some heroes have infinite ammo - OW2 has 6 game modes 1. control - two teams fight over a capture point in a best-of-three format 2. escort - the attacking team must escort a payload to a delivery point, while the defending team attempts to prevent them until the timer runs out 3. flashpoint - each flashpoint map has five capture points, called "flashpoints," and a team must capture three to win the game 4. hybrid - hybrid is a game mode which starts with an Assault capture point and continues with an Escort objective 5. push - two teams fight to escort a robot who pushes an objective onto the opposite (enemy) side of the map 6. clash - clash has five total capture objectives, placed in a linear pattern on a mirrored map, teams may win in one of two ways: by reaching five points before the enemy team, or by capturing the objective closest to the enemy spawn - a normal team in OW2 must have 5 heroes (1 tank, 2 damages, 2 supports) you can select between "Role Queue"(choose a role before you play) or "Open Queue"(play any role but you might be in a team with 5 damages, 3 tanks and 2 support or a normal team depend on your teammates' tactics) - you can say "Hello" by hold C, drag to the "Hello" section and then release - you need to be near the payload(car, objective) to move it. more ppl will make it move faster (maximum 3 ppl) - if you have a leaver there will be the new ppl to join and replace them (you can join mid game) - if your tank or 2 supports died don't jump in the fight, you should just fall back, regroup and wait for them - the last game you don't have a tank bc you selected "open queue" so yea... hahaha i hope you enjoy the game its my fav game of all time XD you will get better at it i just know it hehehe
Another thing you can press tab to see scoreboard, it also shows you the enemy heroes after 15(?) seconds of the match starting. You can see when the enemy respawns and if they swap to a different hero
This is so cool that your finally playing, a few tips, try playing around cover a bit more, so that way you take less damage. Try and pick one or 2 characters to learn at first that you really like so that way you aren’t spread too broad in your skills. And if you ever find yourself getting mad at the game, just take a break for the day. At the end of the day, your playing to have fun, and if your not having fun, then you should take a second. This was fun as hell to watch! My friend also introduced me to ow2 3 months back and I have played a little with my full time job. The game is absolutely fun and amazing! It was a pleasure watching u play❤
Don't let the angry people get to you, is my biggest tip. Also, don't force yourself to play if you don't want to. Play it if you think it's fun. I love the character design and personality of each hero in the game, but I also love the gameplay. (watch out for that support 2, theyll getcha!)

This was fun to watch! Here are some tips you might find helpful: - When someone shoots at you you can see a red indicator around your crosshair showing you which direction they are shooting at you from. There's a good example of this at 26:30 in the video. - The game uses directional sound so you can hear footsteps, gun sounds etc from enemy players which can help you locate where they are. (Sorry for the wall of text but here's some useful info about Ultimate abilities:) - Every hero has an Ultimate voice line that they will shout each time they use their Ultimate ability. If someone sounds like they are yelling out an anime attack move then they are probably using their Ultimate. There's one version when they're on your own team (always in english), and another if they're on the enemy team (usually in their native language, with some exceptions). As you learn to play more heroes you will be able to recognize what the lines are and what to do when you hear them. Here are some useful examples: Enemy ults: - When Dva yells "Nerf this!" her mech is going to self-destruct and take everyone down with it. You need to break line of sight from the mech to survive. - When Cassidy yells "It's high noon!" he is about to charge up a 1-shot kill on everyone he can see. You'll need to break line of sight from him before he pulls the trigger. - When Reaper yells "Die! Die! Die!" he shoots at everyone around him and you need to get away from him or point a shield at him to survive (or break line of sight). Friendly ults: - When Ana on your own team yells "You're powered up, get in there!" she has used her nano-boost on you, increasing your damage by a bunch and makes you slightly tankier for the duration. If she uses it on another teammate you will instead hear her say "Nano-boost administered." - When Kiriko yells "Let the kitsune guide you!" she creates a blue path on the ground. While standing on the path your team gains more attack speed and reduced ability cooldowns.
as someone who's only played overwatch for almost 2 years, the memory of being a new player is still fresh to me! Don't forget you can press f1 to see what a hero does, very important with this game, especially as you unlock the more complicated ones I've been playing since 2017, so I'm a bit up there in skill, and these things take time. I noticed that over time you caught on to certain things already, so you're already learning more than you think :)

As someone who's played since release, it's so interesting to see the tutorial from a new players eyes. The game has a particularly difficult learning curve, unfortunately, but is really solid in design. There is so much information out there, with how to set up mouse sensitivities and graphics to actual game play strategy, map awareness, and understanding heroes abilities. A lot of it is just learned by playing, which obviously takes a lot of time. I didn't play any FPS games like this before it came out, and I remember just wanting to play against bots... until I got my first POTG. Then I was hooked. I don't play particularly well, but it's a casual game for me and my friends doing our best with shenanigans. :) Don't forget to hit tab to see what team composition you have! You can check to see if anyone's respawning on the map as well.
i grew up playing overwatch and have been playing for over 7 years now. and oh my god I LOVED watching this, i very faintly remember my first days on the game and it feels so nostalgic to see this game through the eyes of a new player, it almost feels like rediscovering the game and all the memories 🥹 it's especially fun to watch you pay attention and question things that i don't even think about as a veteran player, like trying to see if you can enter a bus on king's row, punching the boxing bag to see if it does anything in the gym room on practice range or just looking around all the spawn rooms like the good room on junkertown it's always nice to see new players on overwatch, the world could always use more heroes ❤
you did exceptionally well for someone without a lot of keyboard experience! something that is not noted a lot in-game is that sound cues are quite important. listening for footsteps/gunshots can help you better locate enemies, and sometimes what the characters say can give you a hint as to what they are doing (plus the banter may give you some more insight on the characters). I'm glad you had fun, seeing you try out the game was very enjoyable. hope you try it again sometime! EDIT: also remember to hold C if you want to say hello to someone :) and in my personal experience the most fun way to play this is with other people, I would love to see a stream where you try playing with a group (although it matches skill levels so the games may be harder)
I love this! I've been playing Overwatch since it released in 2016 and its awesome to see a fresh perspective on it. You did well to begin with & I think your games will get easier as you play (you will improve naturally & the game will stop making you fight against people who have obviously been playing for a longer time). Glad to see you giving it a try after watching the lore cinematics :D
Really fun and entertaining video, its always nice to see someone playing this game for the first time. The game has never been any good at explaining its most basic mechanics since its release, so don't worry if there are things you're not getting quickly. As someone who's been playing for a few years my best advice is to pay a lot of attention to the sound cues you hear6 and where does it comes from. If anything is loud is probably very important (like an ultimate being used, footsteps from an enemy flanking or even the ping/kill sound effect). Anyways, enjoy the game. Its a really fun experience.

I’ve been playing this game since 2017 but still remember how overwhelming it felt to be a brand new player who was new-ish to FPS games, and there were even less heroes back then! Be patient with yourself. You WILL die a lot, even to AI bots. The real people queueing into AI games are often brand new like you, but are sometimes seasoned players just there to fool around, so don’t worry about how much you die - just use it to familiarise yourself with the controls of the heroes you’re playing. You did really well already, and quickly learned that staying with your tank/team is a good idea. I’m embarrassed of how long it took me to intuit that when I first started playing :’) You’ve probably been offered this by a bunch of people but if you ever need anyone to bounce your questions about the game/heroes off, I’d be happy to help :D
I just came from watching your blind reacts. Happy to have you on the game. For me what i love about the game is the interaction between characters, not just in voice lines but also in gameplay. the art and design is top tier as well. i guess you pick reaper. XD mercy is a crazy pick
it was so fun watching someone new at this!! i started playing during overwatch 1 so everything is a little more different than i realised - i’ve recently gotten a few of my friends into the game who all hadn’t touched an fps at all before picking up overwatch for me but i never realised how hard it is for new players w/out someone to coach them through each hero/ability and the basics of different game modes etc !!
Saw your cinematic reactions the other day! It's really cool you're trying the game! Unfortunately it is a really steep learning curve. OW2 was my first FPS, but I also had a team of 4 other people helping me learn and it was still overwhelming. I'd definitely recommend watching some tip/gameplay videos or try to talk to someone/play with someone else. There's just so much information to the game, and even after playing for over a year+, I'm still learning new things and only know how to play a few characters well. I hope you try it out again, and if you do, good luck!
this was really cool to see! i started overwatch as the first game i ever really played around a year and a half ago because my friends convinced me to play. you'll get the hang of it with time! what i'd recommend is to go into the practice range and just try out the heroes you have unlocked and learn what each of their abilities do by pressing f1. once you play around with them you'll kind of understand how they work and then it'll be easier to try to focus on working with your team (you can enter the practice range when you aren't queuing for a match by going to the training page like you did in the tutorial, that way you have time to practice). also, it can take some time to find a hero that fits your playstyle, so i'd suggest just trying them all out and seeing which ones you have fun with! and as a side note - basically nobody uses the voice chat in overwatch, pretty much all the communication is through pinging things (if people even do that haha) so you don't have to worry about having it turned off!
something to note about tanks is they're very different than conventional tanks in games like mmo's, they create what's called "space", which is an area where your team can play, which can be done multiple ways, whether it's shielding off the enemy team from that area, or using winston to jump onto the enemy team and place a bubble on them to pressure them out of an area so your team has more opportunities to shoot at the enemy
Nice work! It's so rare we get to see a genuine new player to OW. Nostalgic. There is definitely a bigger learning task ahead of you than for most of us because you are coming into a game with WAY more heroes. Take your time and ignore the toxic people, lol.
This is so cute and it makes me wistful for when I first experienced this game for the first time. You can never go back to the first time with this game but man it's a trip watching someone else experience the magic of it, I really envy you that you get to try it out for the first time. It's such an amazing and one of a kind game, as much as I hate it at times, there really is nothing else out there like it.

Without anyone saying anything negative about it. Especially with all the negativity about blizzard and ik how messed up the company is but I still enjoy the game because of the gameplay and characters.

So much fun seeing a brand new player just goin in blind! Man i see now that this game is hard, should have a bigger tutorial tbh. It will be fun to watch your videos after this and see how you progress :) for a first timer this was pretty good. Just remember to reload your gun, stick with your team and try to learn one or two heroes well so u know thier abilites. Just keep up the grind. For me it took like 10-15 hours until i knew every hero and what i was up against :D keep it up!
I have been playing this game since OW1 beta, I waited in line at GameStop for the midnight release. I still play quite a bit. It has been super cool to follow you along your journey of the cinematics and now trying the game out! I hope we get to see more vids like this! And welcome to Overwatch! this is very wholesome to watch. i also am a new player (started this January) but it's refreshing to see someone have genuine fun playing the game. i do recommend trying out the Mystery Heroes gamemode as it will help you learn all the heroes and find which ones you enjoy the most, it helped me find my favourite heroes at the time. best of luck!

i have 6,100 hours on overwatch and it can be a super infuriating and difficult game, it has such a high skill ceiling and it can feel so so different to other FPS games where everyone else just seems like they’re cheating you gots to find a role you love, any of the 3 work, practice that role a bunch and you will definitely get a feel for that role and be able to play most of the characters in it to a great standard the game is really fun once you have some momentum, so keep trying :D

Also really happy that you experienced with heroes, if I was in your place I would've sticked to one :') I don't wanna give out advices that aren't asked for but please look around more frequently so they cannot get you easily! Been really fun watching someone new to overwatch as an ip and a game. Its also cool to see it from someone whos pretty much new to modern fps games play. I love the "Let's go take out this sniper that's taking people out"... and proceeds to try to casually walk through the whole other team on the way to the back line. :D
I saw Myth play this game in 2022 and was like this game looks too fast and frantic. 1500 hours later I'm still playing. Welcome to the community. This game is so addicting.
As a player who previously were top 500, I was very impressed on how fast you picked up on things and how calm you were the whole time. This was a blast to watch and I hope you had a lot of fun playing! If I can give you one tip tho It would be to lower your mouse sensitivity. It doesn't sound like a big deal but I promise you that will help you tons if you have an okey amount of mouse space on your desk. I would sugguest putting it to around 4% - 6% in the settings. It is prefrence in the end but most players play with quite low sense to maximise their aim (If you wonder how to do it you just press ESC -> Options -> Controls -> General -> Mouse Sensitivity). Hope to see you play again!
I have been playing OW casually since the release of OW1 with many many (too many) hours in game, it is so interesting/fun to watch someone play for the very first time. You did really well for not knowing many, if any of the other heroes abilities. Open queue can be a pain since its not role locked to 1 tank, 2 dps and 2 healers, which is why you may have felt like you had unbalanced teams. Open queue does let you switch to any hero instead of being locked to only heroes of a single role though, so its probably a little better to learn heroes with unless you plan to stick to a single role the whole time. I believe you unlock role queue (unranked) after 5 games played. Also, having voice chat off is a good choice, at least until you have learned some heroes and have some understanding of the game modes. People can be real goobers. It is a team game though and having good communication wins games! I hope you enjoyed playing!

Always great to see newcomers, strap in for a ton of information overload! It is normal, we all go through it :) After 10+ hours things start to make much more sense and gameplay will feel fluid and more predictable. *A few comments about some of your questions/wonders:* The "free version" is the only version. In OW1 you used to pay for the game, but now in OW2 it is completely free for everyone, and all gameplay-related features are fully accessible without having to spend any money on the game ever. The reason some aspects (like heroes, game modes, etc) are locked for you, is because you're a brand new player, and in order to not overwhelm you or throw you into things you may not be ready for, the game limits certain features for a while. As you improve at the game and spend more time, win more games, more and more features will unlock for you until eventually everything is fully accessible, as it is for everyone else who have played for a long time. Welcome to Overwatch! I've been playing since the first beta back in 2015 so it's very interesting to see a new player's perspective. There's quite a learning curve but don't be intimidated and just take it at your own pace. It's a very fun and rewarding game and I hope you enjoy it!

There used to be maps of Hanamura and Volskaya Industries, exactly like the ones you saw in the Shuanglong & Sombra video. However, they were removed due to competitive balance issues. It's a pity you didn't get to experience them. The maps were made exactly like in the video, creating a very immersive atmosphere.
I had to subscribe after watching this! It would be so fun if you continued to play from time to time to watch your improvements, and the funny moments of course. I didn’t know Athena was that impatient with hero selection😅 Also a tip for pharah; if you hold/ repeatedly tap spacebar you can stay flying in the air for quite some time! So after you use your jump jet (shift) you can also start holding or tapping the spacebar to continue flying! I hope we get to see more OW gameplays eventually❤️

Watching that first game against real players was such a treat! You actually did really well for someone with little-to-no mouse and keyboard fps experience. You were taking angles and shooting from range intuitively, and followed your intuition on following tanks and self-healing. All great instincts for this type of game! Starting out, you should be pressing your F1 key to continually learn and read your hero's kit (you can do this mid-match too), it's overwhelming at first but take it slow and build your knowledgebase! For example, on Pharah the rocket launcher lady you tried, you will see she can actually fly if you hold jump. I hope you play more!
This was so entertaining to watch! I'm a 49 year old guy whose daughter played OW2 for a year and then suggested I try it out too. Now I've been playing the game for a year too and I have like 500 hours on just Moira alone 😅 It felt a bit overwhelming at start because I went straight to unranked matches without even realizing there's a possibility to play against AI.
The people who play against the AI bots are much nicer than the PvP unranked mode. It's probably best to use that mode until you become comfortable with a hero or two. When you see the red skull pop up in your cross hair, it means you successfully killed someone. Overall this video is really humbling to me, as someone who has a decent amount of the game and can be rude when things don't work out in-game. I wouldn't be surprised if a few OW content creators react to this video. I really enjoyed watching you check the game out and I would love to see more in the future. In the mean time, I am going to take a step back from being so hard on randoms

hey! i'm a long-time overwatch player and i'm so happy to see someone new enjoying the game! i hope you had fun! here's some little tips for the heroes you tried:
- Phara can do huge damage, but she can be very vulnerable on the ground. Use her abilities to fly up high and shoot the enemy from above. She can be a really valuable distraction!
- Honestly you had a good grip on Soldier, and getting better will just come with time :)
- Winston does best at running in and doing close-range damage and then quickly jumping out when he's low on health.
- Tracer can blink around, and her recall ability reverses time a few seconds. She plays very similar to winston, where you blink in, do damage, and rewind to get your health back.
Sorry for the wall of text! I'd also recommend Lucio if you want to try a healer. He was the hero I learned first! Have fun! ❤️ (also, if you want to learn via videos, I recommend the youtuber Emongg, he's one of the nicest voices in the overwatch community and I learned a lot from him!)

As a player with hundreds of hours I enjoy seeing new players trip over ahhAhah it's so heartwarming. 😅
You'll notice the abilities the heroes have are represented in the cinematics you saw. The "nerf this" thingy that got you several times is Dva autodestroying her mech and throwing it away LOL
You are also right, the team compositions were off (in your team mostly...) so it makes it even more dificult to play.
The thing I noticed punishing your gameplay is not hearing someone shooting at you from your sides or behind... but is OK as you are still getting used to recognize each hero sound (they are intended to be VERY distinct).

As a longtime player, its so genuinely nice seeing new players!! I reached masters in rank a few weeks ago (FINALLLYYYY) , and remember when we all started like this in 2016, love that you're willing to try something new. if you have any questions, the overwatch community tends to be really nice (with a few exceptions, it is a shooter after all, trolls are inevitable).
Keep practicing and you'll do great. At first, its a steep learning curve, but once you've played one shooter on PC you'll kinda be able to take that skill into *most* other FPS games. Single player or PVP. It really opens a lot of avenues for some great games! Most of the learning curve of OW isn't just aim, its positioning and game knowledge (when to ult, ect), which just takes time and practice.

One of the things I love about overwatch is how immersive the gameplay is. The maps and characters all go together so well, and after you play a while, you could go back to the cinematics and recognize the locations. There are sound cues for everything, along with visual, they just take a while to learn.
some tips for new players
- you can see your selected hero's abilities by holding F1
- you will unlock the new heroes by playing the game and complete the challenges but you can try every heroes in Practice Range
- mercy can switch her healing staff to a pistol by scrolling on your mouse
- when you play pharah you can hold "space bar" to fly
- when you play widowmaker its better if you play on a high ground (use your grappling hook to get there) and snipe them with your right click
- press R to reload but some heroes have infinite ammo
- OW2 has 6 game modes
1. control - two teams fight over a capture point in a best-of-three format
2. escort - the attacking team must escort a payload to a delivery point, while the defending team attempts to prevent them until the timer runs out
3. flashpoint - each flashpoint map has five capture points, called "flashpoints," and a team must capture three to win the game
4. hybrid - hybrid is a game mode which starts with an Assault capture point and continues with an Escort objective
5. push - two teams fight to escort a robot who pushes an objective onto the opposite (enemy) side of the map
6. clash - clash has five total capture objectives, placed in a linear pattern on a mirrored map, teams may win in one of two ways: by reaching five points before the enemy team, or by capturing the objective closest to the enemy spawn
- a normal team in OW2 must have 5 heroes (1 tank, 2 damages, 2 supports) you can select between "Role Queue"(choose a role before you play) or "Open Queue"(play any role but you might be in a team with 5 damages, 3 tanks and 2 support or a normal team depend on your teammates' tactics)
- you can say "Hello" by hold C, drag to the "Hello" section and then release
- you need to be near the payload(car, objective) to move it. more ppl will make it move faster (maximum 3 ppl)
- if you have a leaver there will be the new ppl to join and replace them (you can join mid game)
- if your tank or 2 supports died don't jump in the fight, you should just fall back, regroup and wait for them
- the last game you don't have a tank bc you selected "open queue" so yea... hahaha

Another thing you can press tab to see scoreboard, it also shows you the enemy heroes after 15(?) seconds of the match starting. You can see when the enemy respawns and if they swap to a different hero
This is so cool that your finally playing, a few tips, try playing around cover a bit more, so that way you take less damage. Try and pick one or 2 characters to learn at first that you really like so that way you aren’t spread too broad in your skills. And if you ever find yourself getting mad at the game, just take a break for the day. At the end of the day, your playing to have fun, and if your not having fun, then you should take a second. Hope these help!

Don't let the angry people get to you, is my biggest tip. Also, don't force yourself to play if you don't want to. Play it if you think it's fun. I love the character design and personality of each hero in the game, but I also love the gameplay. (watch out for that support 2, theyll getcha!)

This was fun to watch! Here are some tips you might find helpful:
- When someone shoots at you you can see a red indicator around your crosshair showing you which direction they are shooting at you from. There's a good example of this at 26:30 in the video.
- The game uses directional sound so you can hear footsteps, gun sounds etc from enemy players which can help you locate where they are.
(Sorry for the wall of text but here's some useful info about Ultimate abilities:)
- Every hero has an Ultimate voice line that they will shout each time they use their Ultimate ability. If someone sounds like they are yelling out an anime attack move then they are probably using their Ultimate. There's one version when they're on your own team (always in english), and another if they're on the enemy team (usually in their native language, with some exceptions). As you learn to play more heroes you will be able to recognize what the lines are and what to do when you hear them.
Here are some useful examples:
Enemy ults:
- When Dva yells "Nerf this!" her mech is going to self-destruct and take everyone down with it. You need to break line of sight from the mech to survive.
- When Cassidy yells "It's high noon!" he is about to charge up a 1-shot kill on everyone he can see. You'll need to break line of sight from him before he pulls the trigger.
- When Reaper yells "Die! Die! Die!" he shoots at everyone around him and you need to get away from him or point a shield at him to survive (or break line of sight).
Friendly ults:
- When Ana on your own team yells "You're powered up, get in there!" she has used her nano-boost on you, increasing your damage by a bunch and makes you slightly tankier for the duration. If she uses it on another teammate you will instead hear her say "Nano-boost administered."
- When Kiriko yells "Let the kitsune guide you!" she creates a blue path on the ground. While standing on the path your team gains more attack speed and reduced ability cooldowns.
as someone who's only played overwatch for almost 2 years, the memory of being a new player is still fresh to me! I remember playing for the first time and struggled so much with the movement but as time went by my movement became better! If you decide to keep playing, I woll definitely be here to watch it! As someone who's played since release, it's so interesting to see the tutorial from a new players eyes. The game has a particularly difficult learning curve, unfortunately, but is really solid in design. There is so much information out there, with how to set up mouse sensitivities and graphics to actual game play strategy, map awareness, and understanding heroes abilities. A lot of it is just learned by playing, which obviously takes a lot of time.
I didn't play any FPS games like this before it came out, and I remember just wanting to play against bots... until I got my first POTG. Then I was hooked. I don't play particularly well, but it's a casual game for me and my friends doing our best with shenanigans. :)
Don't forget to hit tab to see what team composition you have! You can check to see if anyone's respawning on the map as well.
i grew up playing overwatch and have been playing for over 7 years now. and oh my god I LOVED watching this, i very faintly remember my first days on the game and it feels so nostalgic to see this game through the eyes of a new player, it almost feels like rediscovering the game and all the memories 🥹 it's especially fun to watch you pay attention and question things that i don't even think about as a veteran player, like trying to see if you can enter a bus on king's row, punching the boxing bag to see if it does anything in the gym room on practice range or just looking around all the spawn rooms like the good room on junkertown

Watching the kill cams when you die is a great way to learn how to use the heroes early on, keep watching them!
Wish paladins didn’t remove kill cams for this reason. stupid decision even if it was buggy in that game.

something that is not noted a lot in-game is that sound cues are quite important. listening for footsteps/gunshots can help you better locate enemies, and sometimes what the characters say can give you a hint as to what they are doing (plus the banter may give you some more insight on the characters).

EDIT: also remember to hold C if you want to say hello to someone :) and in my personal experience the most fun way to play this is with other people, I would love to see a stream where you try playing with a group (although it matches skill levels so the games may be harder)
I love this! I've been playing Overwatch since it released in 2016 and its awesome to see a fresh perspective on it. You did well to begin with & I think your games will get easier as you play (you will improve naturally & the game will stop making you fight against people who have obviously been playing for a longer time). Really fun and entertaining video, its always nice to see someone playing this game for the first time. The game has never been any good at explaining its most basic mechanics since its release, so don't worry if there are things you're not getting quickly.
As someone who's been playing for a few years my best advice is to pay a lot of attention to the sound cues you hear6 and where does it comes from. If anything is loud is probably very important (like an ultimate being used, footsteps from an enemy flanking or even the ping/kill sound effect).
Anyways, enjoy the game. Its a really fun experience.

I’ve been playing this game since 2017 but still remember how overwhelming it felt to be a brand new player who was new-ish to FPS games, and there were even less heroes back then!
Be patient with yourself. You WILL die a lot, even to AI bots. The real people queueing into AI games are often brand new like you, but are sometimes seasoned players just there to fool around, so don’t worry about how much you die - just use it to familiarise yourself with the controls of the heroes you’re playing.
You did really well already, and quickly learned that staying with your tank/team is a good idea. I’m embarrassed of how long it took me to intuit that when I first started playing :’)

it was so fun watching someone new at this!! i started playing during overwatch 1 so everything is a little more different than i realised - i’ve recently gotten a few of my friends into the game who all hadn’t touched an fps at all before picking up overwatch for me but i never realised how hard it is for new players w/out someone to coach them through each hero/ability and the basics of different game modes etc !!
Saw your cinematic reactions the other day! It's really cool you're trying the game! Unfortunately it is a really steep learning curve. OW2 was my first FPS, but I also had a team of 4 other people helping me learn and it was still overwhelming. I'd definitely recommend watching some tip/gameplay videos or try to talk to someone/play with someone else. There's just so much information to the game, and even after playing for over a year+, I'm still learning new things and only know how to play a few characters well. I hope you try it out again, and if you do, good luck!
this was really cool to see! i started overwatch as the first game i ever really played around a year and a half ago because my friends convinced me to play. you'll get the hang of it with time! what i'd recommend is to go into the practice range and just try out the heroes you have unlocked and learn what each of their abilities do by pressing f1. once you play around with them you'll kind of understand how they work and then it'll be easier to try to focus on working with your team (you can enter the practice range when you aren't queuing for a match by going to the training page like you did in the tutorial, that way you have time to practice). also, it can take some time to find a hero that fits your playstyle, so i'd suggest just trying them all out and seeing which ones you have fun with! and as a side note - basically nobody uses the voice chat in overwatch, pretty much all the communication is through pinging things (if people even do that haha) so you don't have to worry about having it turned off!
something to note about tanks is they're very different than conventional tanks in games like mmo's, they create what's called "space", which is an area where your team can play, which can be done multiple ways, whether it's shielding off the enemy team from that area, or using winston to jump onto the enemy team and place a bubble on them to pressure them out of an area so your team has more opportunities to shoot at the enemy
Nice work! It's so rare we get to see a genuine new player to OW. Nostalgic. There is definitely a bigger learning task ahead of you than for most of us because you are coming into a game with WAY more heroes. Take your time and ignore the toxic people, lol.

You can never go back to the first time with this game but man it's a trip watching someone else experience the magic of it, I really envy you that you get to try it out for the first time. So much fun seeing a brand new player just goin in blind! Man i see now that this game is hard, should have a bigger tutorial tbh. It will be fun to watch your videos after this and see how you progress :) for a first timer this was pretty good. Just remember to reload your gun, stick with your team and try to learn one or two heroes well so u know thier abilites. Just keep up the grind. For me it took like 10-15 hours until i knew every hero and what i was up against :D keep it up!
I have been playing this game since OW1 beta, I waited in line at GameStop for the midnight release. I still play quite a bit. this is very wholesome to watch. i also am a new player (started this January) but it's refreshing to see someone have genuine fun playing the game. i do recommend trying out the Mystery Heroes gamemode as it will help you learn all the heroes and find which ones you enjoy the most, it helped me find my favourite heroes at the time. best of luck!
Just finished watching! Deffo a good choice to stick with Soldier 76 instead of Tracer, Pharah or Winton as overwatch abilities can be hard to get a hang of, though that"s what makes the game interesting to learn. Would love to see more of this content in the future! :)

i have 6,100 hours on overwatch and it can be a super infuriating and difficult game, it has such a high skill ceiling and it can feel so so different to other FPS games where everyone else just seems like they’re cheating
you gots to find a role you love, any of the 3 work, practice that role a bunch and you will definitely get a feel for that role and be able to play most of the characters in it to a great standard
the game is really fun once you have some momentum, so keep trying :D

I saw Myth play this game in 2022 and was like this game looks too fast and frantic. 1500 hours later I'm still playing. Welcome to the community. This game is so addicting.
As a player who previously were top 500, I was very impressed on how fast you picked up on things and how calm you were the whole time. This was a blast to watch and I hope you had a lot of fun playing! If I can give you one tip tho It would be to lower your mouse sensitivity. It doesn't sound like a big deal but I promise you that will help you tons if you have an okey amount of mouse space on your desk. I would sugguest putting it to around 4% - 6% in the settings. It is prefrence in the end but most players play with quite low sense to maximise their aim (If you wonder how to do it you just press ESC -> Options -> Controls -> General -> Mouse Sensitivity). I have been playing OW casually since the release of OW1 with many many (too many) hours in game, it is so interesting/fun to watch someone play for the very first time.
You did really well for not knowing many, if any of the other heroes abilities. Open queue can be a pain since its not role locked to 1 tank, 2 dps and 2 healers, which is why you may have felt like you had unbalanced teams. Open queue does let you switch to any hero instead of being locked to only heroes of a single role though, so its probably a little better to learn heroes with unless you plan to stick to a single role the whole time. I believe you unlock role queue (unranked) after 5 games played.
Also, having voice chat off is a good choice, at least until you have learned some heroes and have some understanding of the game modes. People can be real goobers. It is a team game though and having good communication wins games!

watching this video reminded me of the first time i played overwatch :) it was my first time playing an fps and boy was i bad lmao. just keep playing and you will improve and recognize what is happening on your screen. Loved your reactions to the cinematics and would love to see you play more
I hope you enjoy the game! There's definitely a bit of a learning curve. Once you figure out how different heroes work and their counters, it gets easier. Especially once you learn how to work together in a team. Overwatch is super fun and unique, I've been playing since 2016 and would be happy to answer any questions you have!

Always great to see newcomers, strap in for a ton of information overload! It is normal, we all go through it :) After 10+ hours things start to make much more sense and gameplay will feel fluid and more predictable.
*A few comments about some of your questions/wonders:*
The "free version" is the only version. In OW1 you used to pay for the game, but now in OW2 it is completely free for everyone, and all gameplay-related features are fully accessible without having to spend any money on the game ever.
The reason some aspects (like heroes, game modes, etc) are locked for you, is because you're a brand new player, and in order to not overwhelm you or throw you into things you may not be ready for, the game limits certain features for a while. As you improve at the game and spend more time, win more games, more and more features will unlock for you until eventually everything is fully accessible, as it is for everyone else who have played for a long time.

wow this is awesome! I found your channel just a few days ago and I've been slowly watching your starcraft videos, but I did not even hope you would play overwatch! As a somewhat passionate overwatch player (been playing pretty consistently since 2016) this is super cool to watch. I totally forgot what is felt like to play my first games. Welcome to Overwatch! I've been playing since the first beta back in 2015 so it's very interesting to see a new player's perspective. There's quite a learning curve but don't be intimidated and just take it at your own pace. It's a very fun and rewarding game and I hope you enjoy it!

There used to be maps of Hanamura and Volskaya Industries, exactly like the ones you saw in the Shuanglong & Sombra video. However, they were removed due to competitive balance issues. It's a pity you didn't get to experience them. The maps were made exactly like in the video, creating a very immersive atmosphere.

I had to subscribe after watching this! It would be so fun if you continued to play from time to time to watch your improvements, and the funny moments of course. I didn’t know Athena was that impatient with hero selection😅
Also a tip for pharah; if you hold/ repeatedly tap spacebar you can stay flying in the air for quite some time! So after you use your jump jet (shift) you can also start holding or tapping the spacebar to continue flying! I hope we get to see more OW gameplays eventually❤️
