I have not terraformed beyond laying paths and narrowing one river bend. No digging, no extra cliffs and no extra waterfalls.... nothing. And you know what? I love it!
I am loving this island, Ryan!! I think at this point we've almost been conditioned to think that an island has to be so full you can barely walk through it, this is like a breath of fresh air, I love it!
the only cliffs I’ve been able to make without going mad are all way in the back (minus the house I built to replicate a local bar). idk how ppl can make sporadic cliffs/hills everywhere. somehow it always looks great, but I instantly feel cramped whenever I try to actually organize/decorate my island 😩

It was like that in older Animal Crossing games. The map layout you got was the one you had to stick with for the rest of your playthrough. In all games except New Leaf, you couldn't even see the map before you arrived at your town.
I have a 5-star island that I've done in the same way. Almost no terraforming and (even though I do have a Nintendo acct) I don't play with other people, so all my items are ones that I've found or bought from the shops. I will tell you, the pain you are feeling does not go away, and it does limit you for a long time. I've been playing for about 7-8 months and my island is nowhere near complete, even though we are 5 stars, have top tier villagers, and are swimming in bells, haha. What it all comes down to is just the luck of the draw and trying to work creatively with the space you have.
@@filisora Just doing the daily tasks and trying to hit those achievements to get those nook miles. It can add up pretty quickly. Think about it, you start with 5 tasks each is worth 100-250 miles plus modifiers. Let's say on the low side, you have all 100 x2 tasks. Doing all 5 you get 1000 nook miles. As you complete the tasks new ones load in, just without the modifiers, so you can just keep going. Anywhere from 5-15 tasks can earn you 2000 nook miles. Boom! One nook miles ticket. It can actually add up pretty fast if you're willing to grind a little. As for bells, I just literally sell everything to the Nooks. Seashells, unwanted flowers, twigs, everything. And don't forget bell and fruit trees! I save my weeds for Leaf, bugs for Flick, and fish for CJ though because they buy for more than the Nooks do. But you can certainly sell those to the nooks when you are hurting for cash. I hope some of that helps!
Doing stuff with limited resources and succeeding is, in my opinion, much, much more rewarding than going online and getting all the stuff in the world along custom designs that's not even yours and filling your island with them. Or even worse, copying what someone else has done. I haven't visited anyone's island and nobody has ever visited my island either and I do not use a single custom design. I have only the items I have got myself on my island and I'm very pleased for the outcome and hard work I have put in my island. (I also quitted for about 10 months so I missed a lot of stuff) There's only very little terraforming too that I have done and I never moved a single house or other building. I just made it work with what little I have. And no island is ever done. 🙂

And it’s a nice change from all the cottagecore islands out there. Don’t get me wrong I like cottagecore but to me it seems inaccessible.
It depends on the creator. I find some of the cottage core dream addresses I visit, well alot of them, are really annoying to get around. You get lost and stuck and have to shimmy past things. I've been working on cottage core like, but it's more a mix really. Can't say it's a particular theme. For instance I made a pink and blue fairycore area around Julian's house and have black and red colours around cherry's house (she's a recent resident). She's also overlooking my pirate cove with darker wood colours to transition. I also made a shopping area for xmas, which I plan to rework. Wasn't very cottagecore. that was the point. But I prefer a more natural look. As in less civilisation feel. The main thing for me though, is accessibility. I like being able to run through and not have to make huge diversions around a cliff or river. I've more recently reworked this area you had to hop on stepping stones to get across the river. It was bugging me. Now you can just run across a 2 space piece of land. I have run into this problem though where I really need more inclines. I have to restrict myself from adding more second/third level areas. 2 need the ladder already, don't exactly want a bunch of areas like that.
