Watched the livestream on Saturday morning and I was the one asking about the lillies (the 5 star and I couldn’t get more to spawn). Just wanted to say with your and the community’s advise, I woke up to a Lilly of the Valley flower Sunday morning! LOL. Thanks again for your help, love the content.
I agree with you about cottagecore being time consuming, when you see other cottage core islands they look like they're simple to design, but once you switch to a cottagecore theme you realize that it's actually very time consuming. I don't understand why people would get upset because you time travel, I time travel myself and I see nothing wrong with it.
time travel is considered a form of "cheating" and I certainly understand the argument. Playing normally on the fixed clock is how Nintendo intended the game to be played and that's fine and all; I tried to do it myself when I first started playing. But once you reach the midgame where your island is getting to a developed state trying to move buildings around normally while keeping your ideas fresh starts to make time travel alot more enticing
I have a cottage styled island and I’ve separated my villagers based on the style of their house. for example, i have a tiny forest area and i’ve placed deirdre and lopez in there! but marina, francine, and rosie all live by the beach in a cute themed (but still natural) area edit: i also have stitches. she lives next door to apple and they both have a tiny apple farm that’s tucked away next to a waterfall!
Stitches is a boy lol all lazy, cranky, jock and smug are boys and snooty, peppy, sisterly and normals are girls lol ik it’s weird how villagers like agent s and others look like boys but their girls!
That is something I want to do when I have my final villagers. Right now, I want to meet them all :) I've been grouping more by personality --smug and snooty, peppy and jock, sisterly and lazy, and normal and cranky get to be alone :P
you inspired me to flatten my whole island and now i’m in love with my island so much more, even though i have a huge gap on the left and middle back of my island that i’m not sure what to do yet, i still need to move my campsite that i might go to pinterest for inspiration !
I've got three major empty areas and I have no idea what to do with them... I flattened and rebuilt my whole island but I didn't plan for those big open areas. I also know what its like to love your island after flattening it. my first island, I just didn't touch the cliffs or rivers or use custom designs on the ground. My islands newest iteration however looks so much better, tore it down, built it back up and was not shy on the custom designs. I even followed a couple of guides online to make my own version of 'the path' and now my old island looks like a two star in comparison to my new 4 star island ^^
I’m in the middle of redesigning my entire island and I thought I’d share with you some ideas (not all mine) for your island too! - a proper neighbourhood (I rebuilt all my cliffs to have all my homes in one place, it was time consuming but so worth it) - Arcade - Music area - Zen garden / spa (I feel like you could fill up such a big space on your island with the zen baths and bamboo trees scattered around with flowers/weeds/twigs for a natural feel if you like that) - Library - A campsite like you said but you could build it up on a cliff with waterfalls/lakes and provide different activities / seating areas / bbqs / campfires and plant lots of cedar trees for a natural earthy look - A park. Again you could take up a large area of space with a park with benches, a picnic area, a pond, maybe a play area if you have the furniture - A shopping area. On my island I put all of the shops next to eachother to create a ‘town’ centre - tool area. I made a little tool area next to my shops with a tool bench, tool shelf, and a stall to put spare tools on and I love the way it looks - Orchid / orchard ? Idk how you spell it haha - Flower gardens - A restaurant with the imperial dining table - Also little cafes or seating areas littered around the island Sorry this comment is so long but I hope this gives anyone inspo !
I'm doing a mix of cottage core with... Small town core? I have the shopping district with able and nook's stores and museum with more 'paved' brick roads and then transition in to the dirt paths the deeper you go into the island. So its like going to a small country town that is in the middle of nowhere.
Kelly Brooks I am so bad at the terraforming and designing that I get an idea into my head and it looks hideous so I tear it down and then don’t do anything. 🤦🏽♀️🤣 So I’m always looking for inspiration!
Your town is looking awesome! I would recommend adding sitting areas (benches, iron table+chair) in random places to give it a homey feel. Also the tiny library and stack of books DIY items are cottagecore's best friends lol.
Your way of decorating is very measured and precise and as you said you do things with purpose so its going to be different from a lot of cottage core islands where things are purposefully not symmetrical and cluttered. As well as items placed down purely for decoration rather than function. I wouldn't worry about whether something you want to make fits into the cottage core aesthetic. I want to make a thing do it!
I really admire the dedication that's needed for cottage core and in your case I really love the look as well (usually I find it too chaotic). I still couldn't do it though, everything on my island is practical lol I have a place for flowers, one for houses, one for trees (17 of them all lined up) and a fruit tree path, a town square, and a zen island. I'm working on an outdoor library but I currently just have stacks of books lying around
Here is a nice tip, make sure to use a lots of the mush furniture! You can easily obtain lots of it by timetraveling to fall for a week or so, my favorite mush piece is the mush log!
Ryan, you should put whichever villager you hate the most in the place where the water is around it to keep it away from you and your other villagers. And call it AC Alcatraz.
Honestly everyone has their stance on time travel. I feel like it is a personal preference and you should enjoy the game how you want. I'm not sure why people judge so harshly for it. I think some people might view it as a form of cheating.
I'm not too fussed about others using it but when I tried it, it was a horrible experience, only did it so I can move a villager out since my friend was going to give me Audie but it's just very awkward using time travel and it messes up the island alot
I don't do it personally, but for people doing RUclips videos I think it's actually an ESSENTIAL tool. I love listening to Ryan talk, but the kind of island he is trying to design is hundreds of hours of play even WITH time travel. I have put 425+ hours (on one account. No clue how many on the other) into this game, and there is always so much to do that waiting for a villager house to move is the least of my worries. But if you have a VISION of what you want and a viewership, then I feel like skipping that part is just fine. Likewise with moving a villager out--if there is an end goal for the villagers you want, then sure. **FOR ME**, what I don't like non-youtubers/researchers using TT for is museum completion, DIY completion, etc. That (again, personally) feels like defeating one of the main points of the game, and stops you from celebrating those successes with other people. I look forward to the new bugs and fish every month/season. HOWEVER, I saw the other day that if you're soloing Redd without TT, then it will take anywhere from 4-6 YEARS to complete that part of the museum given the current spawn rates and art-purchase limits. So, man, do I get farming Redd. But Gulliver/Gullivarr and Pasco can be easily done without TT. But I'm not going to get upset an anyone who farms those either :P We all play our own game, ne?
(ha, and yes, I do see the irony of knocking farming, but admitting that I play on multiple accounts. Three, to be precise. Two on my main island, and one (the first) on my son's switch. My second account on my switch was because I needed two houses for the theme I wanted, but yes, I have used it to get a second item out of Gulliver or Redd on occasion. But, frankly, belonging to online trading communities has benefited me FAR more than the second account, and I usually don't play on both in any given day, and play on the one on my son's switch about once a week or so--mainly to clear out the mail and pull up all the weeds since he won't :P)
@@ladygrndr9424 jeez, you could probably write a book with that much text, I did read the part about Redd taking 4-6 years and that is actually ridiculous, acnh is supposed to be a slow paced game that takes a long time to *complete* but 4-6 years is mental! I really hope they change Redd again soon
I got a cottagecore themed island. Mush items are all around, and i like adding weeds for a more natural aspect of it, i recommend putting weeds when somewhere is quite empty! Aswell for flowers to attrack insects! Red and white flowers are perfect for the theme, and match my island aswell. I like putting some pianos everywhere ( white ones ), they cost a lot but worth it. Rivers are a perfect way to make it natural, and aswell for trees. Apple trees and cherry trees are beautiful on cottagecore islands.
i am proud to say i have binged all of your animal crossing videos today! they make for perfect background noise as i terraform my own island, this episode has come out at a perfect time aha
Dude you put the campsite right next to the fishing pier and I’m so angry I didn’t think of that!! I always associate camping with fishing and the beach, because that’s how I grew up. I totally have to redo my whole island now haha
The only time I have time travelled is when someone asked me if I wanted Audie for free, she is one of my absolute favorite villagers and I HAD to move a villager out that day, it was painful but I spent 2 hours skipping days until a villager I didn't like as much as the others wanted to move out. Other than that, I doubt I will ever time travel, wasn't going to time travel a couple hours for shops etc because I thought that would tempt me to do it in general but it was kinda a horrible experience time travelling anyway
It helps to plan where you’ll be putting everything despite wanting a natural feel! Mark out the width/height of houses and dot them around so it’s easier when you actually move them - just a suggestion!
I love watching your videos when I go to bed because they’re so relaxing, and I was so happy to see this video pop on just as I got ready for bed here in Australia! Thanks Ryan!
For the cottage theme, having an assortment of colors and random placement of flowers is appropriate. In real life cottage gardens you'll often find groupings of 5, 7, or 9 of the same plant together in an irregular shaped clump. That would have high visual impact in some spots of your island while still staying on cottage theme
Patience is the name of the game with cottagecore. Making the switch recently, I'm surprised at how deliberate the theme is despite it's 'simple clutter' look. It can be hard to find the sweet spot between claustrophobic and empty, but once you find it, it'll click easily. Best thing about it is how flexible it is. Theres no right or wrong with design!
I would really recommend flattening out your entire island as soon as you get the tools, you can really paint a picture for what you want your island to be! It’s like a blank canvas : )
I've also wanted to to do cottagecore but I'm not the best at designing since I haven't played since like 3 months but I hope I will do well! (By the way your town is very pretty and amazing!)
Yess! I just started a brand new island a few weeks ago and I wanted to have a cottagecore type island since my last island wasn’t that style. I also didn’t expect the path to take as long as it does to place but I’m getting used to it. I’m excited to landscape with you towards a common goal haha.
I just started making my cottage core island. So far I have the entrance almost done and I’ve even made a little area for maple! It’s looking really good so far keep it up!!
I've had my island flattened for about 3 1/2 months now. I noticed that I had major burn out with nothing to do except run around a flat island with no need to carry tools or anything. I decided to just randomly terraform cliffs and water areas and I realized it really helped add to the motivation to decorate. Although I did one major cliff and took a break for a few days I was still really proud of the work I did since I also accidentally made a perfect area to relocate two of my villagers houses.
With vegetables maybe coming out in future updates, I think it'd be nice to add a nice farm vibe somewhere for crops! It goes well with the cottage core theme too.
Hahaha. It's a sweet idea that you're putting alot of time you're putting into. Tbh I'm actually using you previous island iteration with a little bit of tweaking here and there. I really loved your old island layout. If you ever want to reminisce about it, I would love you to visit ^ - ^
Hey Ryan! If you want your pathways to count as detail, just get the Custom Design Permit in the Nook Terminal! It is totally worth it and you can place ANY of your custom designs!
Ketchup just stalking you 😂 like maybe he wants to leave again lol! And yeah weeds are great for extra flora! I use them around rivers and lakes especially, to give them a bit of a realistic look.
if you're at a loss of what to put in your island and where then make a list and brainstorm areas you'd want (: like café, library, movie theater, arcade, shopping area, farm, orchid, gnome area, resort area. etc and then take a pic of your map then loosely draw out the placement. this helps with the flow of your island and stops you from getting stressed out or feeling lost. (:
How to get mums? My island flowers are pansies and I get roses from Nook miles island visits. Also looking for fricking cutting boards. P.S: Are weeds affecting the star rating?
Ask friends what flowers they have and trade with them, wait for a visit from Leif as he has various flowers not native to your island, nook mile islands sometimes have different flowers although I don't remember finding Mums on a nook mile island before. On weeds I think it affects the rating if there are a lot of them in one area. To up the rating I would plant trees and flowers not native to your island like coconut trees from mystery islands and fruit trees from friends islands. Lots of flowers and a mixture of shop bought, nook mile items and crafted items spread out around the island.
when leif comes to your island, he will have a different selection of flowers every time, so eventually he should have mums, it might take a while, but they will be there eventually
Since you were trying to figure out where to put your bike, you could put it in front of nook's cranny where there is that little bit of grass near the hedges.
Hi Ryan I'm fairly new to Acnh and I too decided on cottage style also using the Path ( I feel your pain ) but gives great results, I have my villagers all round me, and gave them themed gardens based on thier personality and hobbies fav color and so on, I did give them each a fence but not sure weather I like that yet or not, I did make a long beach from the beach Redd docks at all the way to meet the beach at the top left of the map, I also have a park so I think thats a good idea as the villagers are often in there so maybe they enjoy that kinda thing Ha ha, really enjoy your videos I don't know how to time travel so can't comment on that but can't understand why it bothers people I mean really, best wishes from the UK
I’ve been DYING for “the path” but I don’t have online membership. Does anyone know if there’s anywhere I can see the pixelated version so I can remake it???
Have y’all ever had to time travel to buy stuff from ables/nooks but you play at night so the shops are closed? I was playing at 1:00 am today and I had to switch the time so I can get a custom design from ables.
I’ve been waiting for this! Sorry I haven’t been able to make the streams, I’ve been super busy! Hoping to drop in this weekend at some point :) island is looking amazing so far! Already prefer it to the old layout! Can’t wait to see more!
Just dropping by because I just saw your last vod and I'm emotional and just thanks for being such a great guy. We care you so much and are super thankful for you. ❤️
I didn’t know why I hadn’t seen you ac videos. I thought you too had quit and was sad. I had to go searching for this one. Thank you for keeping on. I love ACNH so much!!
I am pretty lucky cause I knew what I wanted to do very early. Well, at first I wanted to make kinda like a dnd/old style town and then I saw a bunch of cottagecore island tours and I loved the style and it was similar to what I had already done so it wasn’t hard to “start over”.
I got animal crossing on Mar 24 2020 so this year, 2021 im going to start a fresh save file and delete my current island (but have the dream code available) and your island and videos gives me so much inspiration on how i should feel about my island :).
I know this might sound super weird, but your voice is really soothing. X'D I've been enjoying your videos a lot! Thank you so much for your awesome work :)
So um I’m trying to do a cottagecore island and I have run into a few problems 1.I don’t have any bells and don’t know how to make any 2.I can’t make any miles 3.I don’t know where to start Any help in the comments?
focus on completing a lot of tasks and catching fish and bugs! also get a lot of materials and create items to sell because crafted items sell for more bells than the materials. it takes time when you're starting out, but you'll get there (:
I just think it's so funny how people cried and complained because dirt paths would show up in your grass in New Leaf when you used the same routes, and now they are all looking for dirt paths to put over their grass.
It's the lack of control that made it tedious in NL. The grass wear was nice, but if you wanted it to stay that way then you'd have to traverse your island on rails and cover the rest with obscene amounts of greenery. The control this game offers is so much less stressful.
@@MO-zk8qs I didn't know anyone who wanted the paths to stay except me, and they stayed without trouble. Seemed once that grass was gone it stayed gone. I like NH but don't terraform or anything; just like natural and do miss the grass wear.

try out the barbwire fence

I would really recommend flattening out your entire island as soon as you get the tools, you can really paint a picture for what you want your island to be! It’s like a blank canvas : )
I feel like the only one that cared about the balloon not being popped lol
I have a "Japanese cottagecore" (idk if this is a thing) and I like it sm! Especially how the able sisters turned out.
When you flattened your island did you also get rid of the natural rivers?
I find is so funny when people decorate with weeds bc I remember Leif waiting outside my house to tell me to get rid of all of my weeds in new leaf
I love watching these videos I normally watch when It’s late at night but I’m too desperate to wait!
It is totally worth it and you can place ANY of your custom designs!
he does have it, he just doesn't use it
SteelySly mmmm ok! Thanks!
yeah with the path with multiple sides, it’s much easier to just use your phone
why do you have a different camera UI, how do you change it?
whats the custom design underneith the hedges? please tell me, I want hedges set up on my island but it just looks so bare without it
This is dope, now I can truly get great ideas for my cottagecore island
Cutting boards as in the diy recipe? Check nookazon. If you haven't used it before but bids on items listed by traders with lots of 5 star reviews.
when leif comes to your island, he will have a different selection of flowers every time, so eventually he should have mums, it might take a while, but they will be there eventually
Two questions how do you get so much nook miles and how do you get so many bells?
What happened to Audie? Was the race just for fun or did she move to your island?
did a giveaway i think
Really like how the island is coming together! Looking forward to see more updates here on RUclips!
Ryan: Ketchup dont ask to move out again
Ketchup: ill hecking do it again
can you share the design codes for the paths?
Since you were trying to figure out where to put your bike, you could put it in front of nook's cranny where there is that little bit of grass near the hedges.
No fair! His island actually looks good
I really like the wheelbarrows with flowers in them. I don’t have that yet :(
I was thinking about making a cottagecore themed island and it seem really fun. I think I'm going to commit to it.
I think that making a massive lake would be a good idea, especially near where redd's boat usually appears
Hi Ryan I'm fairly new to Acnh and I too decided on cottage style also using the Path ( I feel your pain ) but gives great results, I have my villagers all round me, and gave them themed gardens based on thier personality and hobbies fav color and so on, I did give them each a fence but not sure weather I like that yet or not, I did make a long beach from the beach Redd docks at all the way to meet the beach at the top left of the map, I also have a park so I think thats a good idea as the villagers are often in there so maybe they enjoy that kinda thing Ha ha, really enjoy your videos I don't know how to time travel so can't comment on that but can't understand why it bothers people I mean really, best wishes from the UK
also with the paintings, I wanted to look for the actual thing but every time I searched it came up with real vs fake so I just gave up with that
I’ve been DYING for “the path” but I don’t have online membership. Does anyone know if there’s anywhere I can see the pixelated version so I can remake it???
I recommend trying a 7 day free trial for switch online instead. There are many tutorials on getting the free trial and it’s pretty simple
GigaBiatch good idea!
Have y’all ever had to time travel to buy stuff from ables/nooks but you play at night so the shops are closed? I was playing at 1:00 am today and I had to switch the time so I can get a custom design from ables.
Your island is looking really good, Ryan! I haven't checked in a while because of life, but so far the remodeling is gorgeous.
I’ve been waiting for this! Sorry I haven’t been able to make the streams, I’ve been super busy! Hoping to drop in this weekend at some point :) island is looking amazing so far! Already prefer it to the old layout! Can’t wait to see more!
I don’t understand why anyone would criticize time traveling, everyone plays different. Seems childish to judge anyone for how they play
After 50 NMT I landed Stitches last night. Was very happy because BOY did the hunt stink lol
What’s the code for the path I’ve been trying to find it but I can’t
u can just look it up in the terminal
Jaein i didnt see the name :/
MA-6647-9230-4716 takes 9 design slots
I love the animal crossing and chill series
It's kinda awesome how you are using "The Path." I am trying to find some good ideas.
yay! im also re-doing my island to a cottagecore theme :)
I love ACNH so much!!
the thumbnail has some serious cottagecore *manical laughter* vibes
I am pretty lucky cause I knew what I wanted to do very early. Well, at first I wanted to make kinda like a dnd/old style town and then I saw a bunch of cottagecore island tours and I loved the style and it was similar to what I had already done so it wasn’t hard to “start over”.
I got animal crossing on Mar 24 2020 so this year, 2021 im going to start a fresh save file and delete my current island (but have the dream code available) and your island and videos gives me so much inspiration on how i should feel about my island :).
Looking good so far! The weeds tho...they will get out of control. I tried to decorate with weeds at the beginning. Nope, not anymore.
Love the video! Very relaxing to watch 😁
I know this might sound super weird, but your voice is really soothing. X'D
I've been enjoying your videos a lot! Thank you so much for your awesome work :)
That path looks amazing!
love your vids man keep up the good work
Recommendation: if you keep the circle lake, make the outlet longer and maybe put a bridge
So um I’m trying to do a cottagecore island and I have run into a few problems
1.I don’t have any bells and don’t know how to make any
2.I can’t make any miles
3.I don’t know where to start
Any help in the comments?
focus on completing a lot of tasks and catching fish and bugs! also get a lot of materials and create items to sell because crafted items sell for more bells than the materials. it takes time when you're starting out, but you'll get there (:
Thanks this rlly helps
How did you get that path I really want it
looks so much better already
what was the design path he used over the hedges? can someone please give me the code?
I think you are doing a great job with this new aesthetic
I'm close to finishing my island just need to complete my residence section. But I already am itching to redo it, LOL!
It looks so good:)
Nice progress!
I really love coco, but i’m going for all cats on my island so one day i’ll let her go. Are you interested in her, or only villager hunting?
Thank you for inspiring me for ideas for my island! Now I got K.K consert!
A cottage core thing i do is mix up my stone and brick patterns to make a path going off of The Path
its nice to see
"OldFatMan" playing minecraft
Add some log benches and wild log benches that will look great!
Once I saw that you were a Ketchup stan, I had to subscribe
I’m definitely not going to copy your campsite...
there's nothing bad with it
This is the sort of theme i want my island to have
For halloween it would be soooo easy to change up your campsite where it is to be Camp Crystal Lake!
i really enjoy your videos!
I'm really loving the barbed wire fence on my island. You should try to use it 🙂👍
that looks so good!
I’m early! I love your videos and every day you post u make my whole week! Thank you for being here!
