If the altitude that you are at is your setpoint, it does not work. The reason for this is that if you move up, your setpoint also moves up. For example, if you activate alt-hold at 100m, the system is trying to keep you at 100m. But if you move up 1 meter for some reason, your new setpoint is 101m and the controller is not doing anything. More technical, you are setting your setpoint to be your reference, therefore your error will always be zero and the input to the PID will always be zero, so nothing is happening. What you can do is use a memory block. This block is set to store when the alt-hold is off. When the alt hold is turned on, the memory block hold the last output. Hope this helps. :)
