With Seat you can swap the cushion from the new seat to the old one that way it wasn’t a complete waste of time and effort getting the new one
The open vents were for the US market and genuine versions direct air to the intercooler. There is a extra duct on the back of them on one side. On UK roads they just allow dirt to collect in the void and don’t really serve a purpose. The plastic tends to be brittle and less hard wearing than the OEM versions.
You need to clean the surface of the paddles before applying them. I used panel wipe as a degreaser and you need to hold them in place for a few minutes to allow them to bond.
Seat bases just clip around the edge and can be swapped, no need to swap the whole seat although the back rest is more involved.
Car looks good, not many standard low mileage MK5s about. Black is the fastest colour 😁👍🏻
I'm a tad disappointed this video did not include Luke beating the Golf with a large tree branch.

Nice to see the real side of modifications for a change, that coil pack harness cover is a pita to fit took me ages to fit mine, can relate to the seat issue I bought a door for my mk2 jetta 4dr at Stonor park for what I thought was a bargain £20 till I realised it came off a 3dr golf 🤦🏻♂️🤣

I added a revo induction kit to my 34k mileage Stage 1 mapped gti..
Can say I’ve noticed a difference to throttle response for the better.
Makes a lovely noise as well all be it like an asthmatic darth Vader but I love it..mine whistles also on full chat
11:59 Paint the original coil-pack harness with red hammarite:)....
You can change only down part of seat what you actually need so you don't waist money, doesn't matter is 3 or 5 door it's same seat part, just need little time 😃
Despite the frustrations you encountered, still a good video anyway and is all a learning curve. Had my 57 black 3door DSG now for a few months and slowly ticking off replacing the usual Golf GTI gremlins such as PCV, DV, cam follower etc. Still a great car even though it gives me a headache sometimes. Yours is a minter since the detailing work. Great channel matey! 😎

i swapped mine from a 2dr to my car now i have a 4dr with the chair pulls hahaha but didn’t find a problem with the runners

Nice one. To finish the engine bay I'd get the black caps for the coolant reservoir and washer bottle to replace the blue ones. I got mine from eBay and they fit great.

The paddle shift was jokes your face. Mine done that get different tape. Intake looks and sounds good. Buy a ram air air duct from foglight grill up to filter. Does help get more air fo the filter.

had to laugh about the paddle shifters....i installed carbon fiber shifters on my mk5 about a week ago...we are approaching winter here in NZ and the first time using the heater yesterday the bloody things fell off 🤣🤣🤣
I know this was a year ago, but you have to wipe the paddles off with alcohol or something.
They're usually absolutely covered in oils from your hands.

That’s why your always better using original parts Luke. Aftermarket parts are hardly ever reliable. You would be better off painting the original coil pack housing thing to match the coil packs.But the rest of it- good job 👍
Feel your pain on this one pal, every time I try to work on my car I get hacked off and something goes wrong! Replaced the o/s electric window mechanism on my MK5 GTI recently, took 3hrs, but only cost me £25 and some bleeding knuckles. Works fine, but there’s now an irritating rattle inside the door 🙄.

Take the positives from the negatives mate at least the intake and open grilles fitted without any problems so in the end the video wasnt a complete fail🙂 as for the passengers seat, i’d just keep it in, now that mike the legend has worked his best magic on it its barely noticeable and for the mileage the car has done it wouldnt bother me, somebody else can enjoy it as their first car when the time comes to sell up

@hamshirephoto I second that! It's for sure your diverter valve making a whistling noise..GFB DV+ for the win! If your original is leaking then you might just have room for a bit more performance increase too

Great video Luke, you did great, parts failed you, i myself have a mk5 golf GTi with manual transmission & 5 door in black, i have bought the Ramair oversized induction kit, it was on offer at Amazon for £166, i also fancy a new exhaust, however can you tell me is yours(non-res) loud while driving normally?
Also, can you tell me where to get the uprated coil packs please?

Chances are you can use the base material on your original seat don't give up on it without looking into it.

Hope the aftermarket oil cap doesn't cause you a vacuum leak🙈 from my experience they all do
It looks like a Porsche item. Shouldn't leak, mine doesn't.
From memory rtech always advise to NOT install anything other than a genuine oil cap as they can leak pressure

I have a stage one ( r-tech) and a ram air (sounds like darth vader ) the r8 coils I fitted didn’t make a noticeable difference.. hth 👍

Complete aluminium/Billet replacement for the paddles would be better in my opinion, stick on paddles can fall off and look a bit tacky.
Use the other seat at home as a gaming chair

Should have just swapped the rails and ditched the lever, I mean you still have 1, and how often do you have someone in the back? Personally my 3dr has only ever had my little brother and a mate of his in the back once

I notice your car has headlights washers on a non bi-xenon light. Do they work?. Your steering wheel has no buttons either. Regards from Philip down under. Still in lockdown 6 and over 250 days in Melbourne. May continue to end of November. Sad.
The headlight washers could be ordered without Xenon on the Mk5. They came with the "Winter Package" i think it was called. The headlight washers also never had a seperate button to activate them or something as far as i'm concerned. They just spray automatically every 5 or so regular windscreen sprays you do.
@@NoName-st6zc oh ok thanks. No winter pack down under. I got the xenon lights on my 2008 plus the heated leather seats. All extra cost options fitted to the cargo chose. The pump broke on one side and cost a lot to fix. Just one of many fixes for me at great cost on a car with 82,000 kms on the clock. Not getting the Mk8. It's A$65 k. And hard to find. What the hell will a Golf R cost next year.
@@philipguacci6452 Well, there's no doubt the MK8 GTI/CS/R are really capable cars but i just don't like them from the outside and especially from the inside. Even if i would've liked them from the outside, the inside would always make this platform an absolute no go for me. It's just hideous. The MK7 GTI/CS/R are maybe the last performance Golfs to consider for me personally. I'm afraid from now on, it's not about the genuine Hatchback experience anymore that made the Golf so great (sit in, feel home instantly in pretty much every aspect) and instead it's about following stupid trends of modernization which does have the tendency to make the simplest stuff one hell of an annoyance already. Not even remotely interested in that...

I had the same problem. I found out there sold as mk5 but there actually a4 harness covers so slightly different shapes...... Hence they don't fit

Well a few things from watching your vid bud was the harness case everybody knows it’s not for a mk5 or mk6 it’s made for the rs4 so you have to modify it to fit the mk5 ie cut it they don’t come made for the mk5.
The seat maybe you could of swapped the base over and the runners to make it work
