Always looking for new places to record from, I ventured to a couple of places I was aware of but not used before.
Floriston crossing does offer good views both north and south for the photographer, but I found it a little restrictive due to electrification masts and the fencing either side of the barriers. Plus it meant looking up at the trains.
I went then to Black Rigg farm bridge. The lane leading to it was closed at one end last year but now its easier to access I thought it worth a go. I am really glad I did, as it offers a long view both northwards and southwards with the main line and the arrivals and departure roads for Carlisle Yard with the flyover in the distance. It was much easier to work around the masts too.
We have nuclear flasks, behind both a Class 68 / 88 combination and behind 37401, bringing flasks from refurbishment at Kilmarnock. We have the Mossend to Carlisle Yard cement tanks (they lay over for the night before heading to Clitheroe), several Mail trains and the Varamis Rail parcels train. There are also north and southbound intermodals, many behind class 90s, and the empty car train heading to Dagenham. Not forgetting the few Anglo Scottish passenger trains, limited through striking train crew, and the ScotRail services, unaffected by industrial action.
Any observations are my own and not intended to show any authority and may show my misunderstanding.
