I don't have my 107 yet but I know I could pass from the studying that I have done. I WON'T work illegally but run with a group of guys who do under the table drone photography. When I get my license I will have to compete with these guys who can, on the spot give great work in perfect weather on the client's tight work schedule while I am waiting on my permission and it comes on a rainy week. I need the FAA to at least send a letter saying "I seen what you did" to these clients and operators. Sadly we know that it will be an empty threat and will teach people to be more stealthy in their endeavors. Guess we will have to wait for the honest clients and try our luck with DroneBase Pilots piece work.

If you operate as a business, I would think that if you claim to be a service provider, you don't need to pay sales tax.
Do engineers, architects and surveyors pay sales tax when they delver paper plans? I know in my state they do not.
If it is actually true that you do have to pay a sales tax, I assume it's just for the cost of the thumb drive or paper, not the total amount you're billing the client.
I did see a seminar once where an expert talked about this, and his main point was that you must ALWAYS claim to be a service provider.
I guess it could be different in different states.
Thankfully thumb drives are getting a lot cheaper and could be a good way to deliver your services as an additional back-up source. You could even apply your name and or logo to the thumb drive. It could be good marketing.

My understanding is that in California if you give the product to a client on a usb drive you need to charge tax.
My question is if you put your logo on the usb drive can you give it to the client as a free be and have it as a marketing expense?
