Actually, the author of “the Beach” took inspiration from Palawan where he stayed first for 6 months when he started writing the novel. He intentionally changed the setting to Thailand because of the story’s theme that suited the backpackers’ lifestyle at that time with drugs more readily available to the Hippies in Thailand during the ‘80’s and ‘90’s - in the spirit of realism. It was rumored that he also did that to help keep Palawan’s anonymity from tourists in case the book blew up, which actually did. He didn’t want to exploit Palawan’s virginity if you will and more importantly keep pesky tourists away from this paradise. On the other hand, this novel/movie helped catapult Thailand to become one of Asia’s top tourist destinations whereas the Philippines still lags behind - way at the back of the pack in terms of tourist arrivals. A success in the author’s eyes. He actually wrote a second novel. This time he paid tribute to the Philippines, his true inspiration and made it as its setting. Unfortunately, it was a flop. In reality, the first novel garnered poor reviews as well. It was poorly written. It was only the beauty of the setting that piqued the readers’ interest.
@@dantesalazar7805 I beg to disagree. We had the biggest red light district in Asia in the ‘70s that brought in European and Japanese sex tourists, but they were nowhere near the volume Thailand receives as of late. Besides, Thailand is popular not because of Pat Pong, but primarily because of its beaches and food. As a world traveler, I know the reason for the lack of popularity of the Philippines as a tourist destination is the dearth of organized trips. We can advertise all we want in all social media platforms to showcase the beauty of the country and how it’s more fun in the Philippines, but if it’s not backed up by ease of travel, then all these fanfare will be for naught. Ironically, it will be the same platforms that will dispute the advertising claims. The Philippines lacks tourism infrastructure and that’s a shame because we have so much to offer. Look at Vietnam. We had more tourist arrivals than them 5 years ago. Now, they attract twice as many as we do. Why? They know how to advertise and their ads are backed up by really great experience. You go there and your trip will be seamless from arrival to departure. You’ll be taken care of efficiently throughout your stay because it’s part of the package you already paid for before the trip. In the Philippines, because of the lack of these tour packages, you’ll waste your time finding your way around. From the time you land at the airport, you get greeted by scumbag taxi drivers. This is common place everywhere you go. By the time you reach Siargao for instance, you will have been exhausted and exasperated through all the hassles of reaching your destination. The challenges you have to overcome to get to your destination are not worth taking. Remember, tourists come to rest, relax and enjoy. Not to get stressed out. These bad experiences unfortunately spread like wild fire in social media. Believe me. I experience it on a regular basis myself. Would you believe I spent half the price going from Clark to Bali compared to my clark to Davao trip? Moreover, I stayed in a world class resort in Bali as opposed to the more expensive but smelly hotel room in Davao. Half of my trip was also spent finding my way around in uncomfortable tricycles and buses in Davao. I was stressed in Davao and very well rested in Bali. Unless these problems are addressed, tourists by the droves will not come. Maybe it’s better that way to prevent environmental degradation.

Wow where i can buy the book?
Philippines lags tourism, cause it doesnt have too much tourism prostitution
@@honusblanco1259 Regarding our deficiencies in tourism infrastructure as compared to other Asian countries, perhaps it's also because we're an archipelago so it's harder to create a system that will make it easier for tourists to go from one island to the other. However, it IS possible to create a system, and the DOT should come up with one. Maybe contact them also and give them the insights that you shared here. :)
100% one of the most amazing places I have been , went in 1996 took 24hrs to get there on a supply boat from Manila. My wife and I spent 10 days there no other tourists was bliss
I bet! Coron might be our favorite spot yet!
El Nido and Coron in Palawan are extremely the best. Tho, Amanpulo in Palawan is one of the most luxurious and expensive island getaways. Philippines is really the best!
We can't even imagine a more beautiful place anywhere on earth ❤️
TRY BALABAC OR AMANPULO IS VERY EXPENSIVE, BUT I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE LOADED YOU CAN AFFORD IT 😂😅😂✌️
I toured Coron Island back in July 2022. Although I didn’t stay where you stayed I visited many of the same beaches, lakes, and coral reefs. Coron Island is absolutely the most beautiful place I’ve ever traveled to.
Kudos on knowledge of how not to damage corals and natures. I wish more tourist people are as knowledgeable as you guys are
We appreciate that! I wish everyone knew how important coral systems are and how important our oceans are to our planet. That’s for the support!
Wow, you guys showed us the beauty of the Philippines. We've been to the Maldives and French Polynesia but it seems the Philippines has a so different kind of beauty. Since we are Filipinos we are going to spend the rest of our lives travelling the Philippines when we retire. You show the Philippines without the crowd and you guys are not rushing at all that we enjoy viewing everything.
Thank you so much. The Philippines is so beautiful! I hope you get to explore all the beauty some day soon.
Your kids are so lucky to experience this. I'm 28 and saving like mad so I can retire in Philippines at 35 and be around this beauty all the time.
We would love to be surrounded by that beauty every day. So majestic there!
good luck with that bud!

Unforgettable experience for the kids. They’ll probably don’t forget to ask again to go visit the country again and again. Thanks for visiting the Philippines
Thanks Guys for appreciating the Philippines Tourists Destinations. Palawan was Voted by some Travel Magazines as the Best Island in the World. BTW, don't let the chance pass you by while in the Philippines, ask and/or buy Ripe Mangoes in every meal or even for just a snack. The Guinness Book of World Records has given the Philippine Mango the Award for the Sweetest and Delicious Mango in the World. Try also to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Subterranian River National Park. Tnx Guys and be safe.

Since you guys are already in Palawan, you must try the Balabac Islands. Trust me it's beyond imaginable experience. The beaches there are one of a kind and have a different experience.
We wish we had had time to explore the Balaba Islands and more of Palawan, but after 3 nights, we headed to Boracay next. We're already planning a return visit and will definitely look into Balabac! Thank you 🤙🏼
Oh that sounds heavenly. We're hearing more about Balabac lately. We just have more to come back to Palawan and explore now.

Im a filipino but im never been to Coron Palawan and its a shame, Coron is one of the most beautiful place around the world. Im so proud that every tourist who able to visit our Coron Palawan are saying that Coron is really a beautiful place.
It’s undeniably beautiful! It really wowed us and set a very high bar for any other place we visit in the world.
. My Canadian friend treated me the most amazing Birthday ever this year. After 2 years of pandemic he managed to book our ticket to Manila then Coron and stayed at Paolyn boat ( their first house boat) closer to Twin lagoon and Barracuda) it was a big house boat and we’re 3 people occupied the whole house boat for 2days.
Your video reminds me all those wonderful and sweet memories. I’m glad to watch all your adventures in the Philippines❤️
Small world! That houseboat is incredible, right?! So glad you were treated to that cool experience for your birthday ❤️
@@AlwaysBeChanging it was the best experience specially I was scared with water.😂 my first jump was incredible ( with life jacket though)😂
Paradise, yes that is how they describe Palawan and I worked there for only 4 months, Oct t0 february 1990. I was not able to visit Coron or El Nido because during that time i am not sure if it is available for public or tourists visitors. Have a safe trip always and God bless.
Coron felt like nature at it finest! That's paradise to us :)
The Beauty of the Philippines 😍💙💜🙌🇵🇭 ..
The most beautiful place we’ve stayed yet.
Thank you for praising the tourist destinations in the Philippines, guys. Some travel publications voted Palawan as the best island in the world. Don't miss out on the opportunity to eat ripe mangoes at every meal and/or as a snack while visiting the Philippines. The Philippine Mango has been recognized as the sweetest and tastiest mango in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. Consider going to the Subterranian River National Park as well.
