This was really a great review of these cars, with the pro's and con's of each laid out very well. What we've seen lately is the price divergence between the cars get even larger. Chevy is clearing out the 2020's at around $25k, while the Tesla 3 has dropped the $35k version completely. If you live in the snowbelt and wish to avoid RWD cars, the price difference becomes even more stark - you have a front-wheel drive Bolt for $25k(ish) and a Chevy dealer in most towns big and small, or the AWD drive Tesla 3 at $42,690 with limited dealers or service nearby. I have nothing against Tesla, they're an American car company and I want them to succeed. But if I were buying an EV today in fall 2020, there really is no decision to make, it'd be the Bolt.
You might want to reconsider now in 2023. Teslas are now even cheaper. The LFP battery version can be charged to 100% weekly without battery degradation. Model Y Long Range with AWD is now sub $50K.
My Elantra just got chopped for a 2021 Bolt Premium EV. I was able to get a great deal w/end of year/model refresh. I am totally surprised at how well this car handles. I live here in Salt Lake and we need more EV's on the road. I did my part.
Let me be a Bolt rep, this machine is amazing. This is a well mannered but yet very fun car to drive. I applaud GM for their engineering. Tiny size + huge features = very enjoyable experience at every encounter. Some say better tires could improve but no issues so far. Stomp up and down as this design is a winner on many levels.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Malik Bodie Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This is by far the most honest and logical review on these two cars keeping price point , performance and tractability in focus . Subscribed. Well done guys.
I just bought my model 3 last week I picked it up the day after completing the online purchase no dealership to fight with also it wasn’t 60k I paid 39,9k (standard range plus with basic autopilot) the resale value is a lot better than a Bolt will ever be and by the way I’m not a fanboy just telling the truth also own a corvette and an mdx.
I drove both the Bolt and then Model 3 while EV shopping. The Bolt just felt cheap and not very exciting. After driving the Model 3 I absolutely had to have one. It made driving a car so exciting and futuristic. It's the first time in a really long time that I am ok with having a car payment. The Bolt just made me think I'd rather walk.
That's only because GM can't advertise the Bolt due to dealer pressure. Tesla has no dealer network and doesn't have that limitation, although some states are trying to keep them out as long as possible. The dealerships have about 5 years to figure out how they can change their business model for cars that don't need maintenance and repairs, although within 10 years there will be far fewer dealers around when the new car market for ICE crashes.
I'm at 16,000 miles on my 3 with no issues...I've been blown away by the room in this thing. My teenage son is an ice hockey goalie and we fit all his gear, another player's gear (and the player), overnight gear for all of us, and drive 200 miles to practice each way without feeling cramped. Also, coming from a Porsche, it's been fun to accessorize the Model 3. All the extra doo dads cost so much less than accessorizing a Porsche and more reasonable in cost. Want extra acceleration? 2k and you go from 4.3 0-60 to 3.9. That would cost you 10k in a Porsche...Want to put in some carbon fiber on the interior? a few hundred and it's decked out...another 5k on the Porsche, etc...BUT, not nearly as fun as my Porsche for overall driving. But, as my everyday, do it all car, you can't beat it!
Really well done video! I do wish my Bolt had the traction of a Tesla so I'm not always peeling out from a stop. But I prefer the Bolt because it has buttons for the normal thing. I don't want to take my eyes off the road just to change the vent direction, and really every single thing. After decades of driving I would rather have the muscle memory of changing settings without needing to look in my Bolt. True, they sent the car out seemingly without any human having sat in the front seats. Range isn't the issue for any car nor how fast it can charge. It's simply lack of charging. Once people have charging everywhere they go, and plug in for every errand stop, their car is always topped off and they realize the car they buy doesn't need to have 300 miles of range.
You can solve the traction problem yourself. Next time you purchase a set of tires you could choose to pick something that is an all-season, or performance all season. It will cost you a little bit of efficiency. But would prevent the constant tire spinning. I agree with you I like the regular normal controls on the bolt. And I think it's a lot more practical interior than the Model 3. Also price wise you can get a pretty good deal on a bolt right now. I think battery and motor technology is more advanced in the tesla, But to the average user I'm not sure that really matters. In the long term people will want reliability, and the ability to repair it easily. I think the Chevy takes the prize in that category. If you're interested in some of the mechanicals under the skin. There's a great RUclips channel called Weber Automotive. They have an entire video series where he disassembles a bolt EV. Takes the battery pack out completely disassembles it. Shows how the cooling systems work. Takes the motor and transaxle unit completely apart. He has lots of other great videos if you're interested in that kind of thing.
I don't know if the electric motor technology is actually that much better in the Tesla 3 then in the Bolt. GM has been at it for a while now. GM products are sure a lot less flashy but they sure made a lot of R&D since the EV1 to get where they are now.
@@leewaymodels I'm not aware that Tesla has any real advantage in the electric motor. That's pretty straightforward tech. I mean, I don't think GM has any advantage of any of the other competitors here either, that's not really a place you can set yourself apart.
@@leewaymodels there was a video explain the differences in motors between the two evs, essentially tesla's motor worth $1000 more and presumably for something good. but fundamentally there is no differences.
What got me looking was Professor John Kelly at Weber State Univ. He took his own Bolt completely apart and went though it system by system for training purposes. Thanks for making this in SLC as I live in Midvale. My favorite ride is the Honda Super Cub C125A. I drive 2017 Chevy Colorado Duramax diesel and 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT manual.
This episode was shot and aired on TV when the Model 3 was just beginning deliveries. The model in this episode was one of the first in the Utah and most owners were still months or years away from receiving their cars or being able to order a $35,000 version.
To Paul's question, I would prefer the Tesla not for the brand image but for the over the air updates and a corporate culture that has not yet been proven to not really care about people's safety due to engineering flaws (GM ignition switch anyone?).
That definitely explains some of the info. You can reserve one today and get it in single digit weeks. Also the RWD but also "fully loaded", where in 2020 you can't even get a long range RWD, and fully loaded is the performance dual motor.
Cool review. It's good to see car guys like me who are not afraid to choose something other than Tesla than to easily choose the Tesla bandwagon. Only thing, that Bolt is Fugly. BTW, I still enjoy your Volt review you guys did a few years back, happy to see your interest in EV's.
I get a feeling the guys were hating on the Tesla just because of its fanbase or Elon. I get that their fanbase can be snobbish dicks sometimes but honestly, having driven both as rentals, the Tesla is just so much more refined. And you're right. I really don't care about the Chevy. It looks ordinary and for the price you pay, just underwhelming to say the least.
15:30... the best place to charge the car is at home. Overnight. Full every day. And the big boy 240v charger will charge he Bolt or M3 in /twice/ as long as you drove it... drive one hour to and from work, it’s full again in 2 hours.
Knowing that this video is actually a few years old helps make sense of a few of the things they said. Their opinions on the Tesla did not age well, now you can order it and get it much faster, a lot of the features have been added and improved upon, and the price has gone down making them much more affordable.
EV's are currently for those that can afford it or have to make a green statement. It will be about 5 years before there are enough choices on the used market, which is where most of car sales are. Although I got a decent deal on a used Bolt. The ROI just isn't there for a Tesla unless you already make oodles of money, in which case the price doesn't matter and you're just buying the car that the cool kids drive.
Not really. I purchased my LR RWD Red Model 3 with FSD private party about a year ago. Cost me 75% of what he paid, and only had 14k miles. That is extremely worth it, as my same car sells used for about $1-2k less than what I paid for it, and I'm at 30k miles now. Excellent value, especially seeing that I've only paid about $200-250 to charge it over $16k miles. And the only maintenance I've done is swap the cabin air filter. Much better than my '12 Mustang prior. And man is it an incredible car.
I didn’t know what to expect from your video when I saw the title, but you guys did a wonderful job ! Your unbiased view about the two best American EV cars is excellent ! I am looking further for new videos of this kind ! Good job 👍
Good Job!! All the things I normally cringe about in these types of reviews you guys didn’t point out. I love my Chevy Bolt and it was way below a $35,000 car! You got a new subscriber here!!!!
The tendency is not to stare at the Tesla screen. You will stare at it the first few days to figure where things are, but after that it just becomes something you passively check. The speedometer in the latest updates is now located close to your peripheral view. Coupled with night mode on the display and you will hardly feel distracted.
2021 Chevy Bolt was on sale for 25k plus tax. That made the choice easy. Its a quick easy to drive and get used to EV. I must admit I love the buttons on the dash and the wheel help getting acclimated quickly.
You guys want to fact check as there are a lot of inconsistencies with your Tesla Model 3 stats, ie. $58k is AWD not rear wheel drive. You should have compared it to the SR/SR+ model to the bolt for a more fair comparison and a LOT closer in price. Yes, I do own a Tesla Model 3 which is why the inaccurate details stood out to me.
We' suspect you didn't read the description or our pinned comment. Keep in mind when this was shot and played on TV was nearly 2 years ago when the Model 3 had just come out. At the time this was made the prices etc. were current. Thanks for watching!
Hmmmm....I'd be more inclined to choose the new MINI SE over either one for in-town motoring with base model cost of $30K less $7,500 Fed Tax credit...Yep...
If you have that much taxes to write off then ya $7,500 is good but the average person will probably only get half of that. Thats what happened to me when I bought a 2018 volt.
BMW is just collecting IQ tax here... similar price similar even smaller space comparing with Bolt, you got half range, which is most important measure of EV, and a MINI logo.
I've got a 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Premier, and I love it. Got it for 21k, then due to the recall got a brand new battery installed by Chevrolet for free, with a new 8yr/100000mi warranty on it. It's great. I never worry about charging or range because I charge overnight at home, and it has enough range where I can do road trips because there's enough DC fast chargers spaced out at the right intervals around me to where I really don't have to worry.
I just got my new battery in my 2018 last month. It's been a great car to put 100 miles on a day commuting, and there is free charging at work. My 70 year old mom drove it a couple days ago and really liked it. She said fast and so quiet.
Thanks & I completely agree. Most people won't admit that they're just infatuated with the Testla. The car is like you said about $50k. And imo the giant tablet sticking out tells me that the makers took the easy, cheaper way out. Consider that the screen should've been more integrated into the dash along with a Hud display
I'm not sure why they keep comparing these two other than they enjoy comparing Tesla's to Chevy. They are not targeting the same people. A used Model 3 is about 33K. You can get a new Bolt for that. This is like comparing a Chevy Tracker to a Jeep.
We had a '13 Volt until it was totaled. 2.5 years ago we had no option to buy a used Bolt and bought a new one. Used 2017 Bolts are off lease for mid- high teens with 30K miles.
One of the best reviews i ever saw Camera angles, details about each features, editing and impressive shots of the city Bravo guys ... This is how the car review should look like And my honest review i drove both tesla and bolt. Tesla is a brand..thats iphone of cars we can't compare with anything but bolt is best commute car for daily use..it is awesomely smooth and handles great in every aspect😊
Because if you're a petrol car maker all the oil companies require that any electric car you make be both ugly and slow. Witness any electric car made by a company that also makes oil or petrol burners.
I heard that after someone drove the Tesla, the Bolt felt cheap. Go onto RUclips and see how the new Teslas are being delivered with faulty workmanship. I drove expensive Cadilacs and Corvettes, and I love my Bolt EV! It is a quality car.
A point in the Chevy's favor is serviceability. Mostly because it is sore spot with my ride currently- every Podunk town has a Chevy dealer and parts availability is that day. I have no idea about Tesla, but I can't imagine it is that extensive. Also, if Chevy were smart, they could turn all of their dealerships into charging centers, and they would have a network to rival Tesla. And as others have commented on the Bolt's less than glamorous looks, the mini SUV layout is far more usable than the Tesla. It may not win points for style, but for utility, the Bolt wins hands down.
Yep when it comes to Warrantied Servicing Bolt is way more accessible. You really need a Tesla Service Centre near you to keep the warranty. But the actual Tesla cars are quite easy to work on and more shops are starting to do out of warranty Tesla cars. BEVs in general are just fundamentally easier to work on with less proprietary lock out. The problem is Warranty Policy.
I don't dislike electric vehicles, in fact quite the opposite. I find myself looking for one for my wife as it would suit her A to B needs perfectly. Me on the other hand I always find myself looking for a car that requires you to wind out the RPM's to hear the exhaust scream but I'm also not concerned with 0-60 or quarter mile times. It's all about the experience to me not how quickly I can get to the next stoplight. Maybe one day I will purchase one for myself but it will never be my only vehicle, I must always have my cam chopping corvette's.
I completely understand this sentiment, I'm going to be getting rid of my model 3 soon and jumping into the new supra. The tesla is fast, but its BORING.
I'm glad both reviewers were able to kind of resist or be aware of the way Tesla is kind of doing a little psychological engineering with some of their choices and creating an "owner experience" premium, that at times feels like it's bleeding into a slightly toxic fandom. At the same time, they were both able to acknowledge where there is some really cool and innovative actual engineering there too. And stay fairly agnostic on the question of the "software first" approach. I actually think the biggest cool, forward-thinking engineering advantage in the 3 is way the roof creates headroom and an open futuristic-feel while saving 2 inches of aerodynamic profile.
With Tesla, you are dependent on Tesla for parts and service. It takes months for body shop work. Rich Rebuilds started an independent shop to get around Tesla parts and service holes.
I put in my order for a 2021 Bolt Premier trim when the order window opened on October 8th. It will have the mid-cycle enhancements that address the critiques of the vehicle so many have had. Once I receive it I’ll have the windows tinted with 3M film which will give the car an elegant touch. My down payment will allow me to lease the car for less than $200/month. A futuristic car without the learning curve dressed up as an ICE hot hatch. Works for me.
I have a Spark EV. It does not have the range of these two vehicles but everyone who drives it loves it. I paid very little money and it has saved me thousands of dollars within 2 years. I have to hide the keys from my children so that I can get a full charge. Remember GM has designed electric cars since the 90's. The EV1 was first.
This video is very informative and it answers the questions that a lot of people don't want to ask. Can you please do video on the Bolt and Bolt euv 2022 please
It's too bad your video was uploaded here to youtube 2 years after filming, it is a very well done video. It's amazing how much the price of the Model 3 has come down. My LR RWD I own cost $62.2k new. Now, for the exact AWD equivalent (cost a couple thousand more at the time, I believe, seeing that the LR RWD is no longer offered) it would cost under $57.5k. Nearly $5k less, for WAY more car. Not to mention the incredible updates over the past few years. Tesla just cannot be beat if you're looking for a fast, spacious, economical EV daily driver. I love Tesla, but I really hope the competition continues to strengthen. That's the best for us consumers.
Yea info is out of date a bit but overall still stands. I would argue that the $35k version is still worth it, considering that the bolt gets the same range. If you pay more than that, it's not really apples to apples. Also, they've made autopilot free now.
I love the video, and I'm having this very discussion in my house right now. I can get a used Bolt premier for about $20K. The cheapest to used Tesla is about $32K. At that price I'm willing to wait two years for a $39K cyber truck
This review was fair in 2018, but it is terribly out of date now. You can buy a Model 3 for $42,000 and pick it up tomorrow. A Bolt is $30,000 IF you can find one that isn't marked up. In 2018 the $30k price difference made the Tesla hard to recommend, but now at $12k over the Bolt, you are getting good value for that extra money.
It is funny that people still say "Yeah, Tesla's cheapest car is $35,000." $37,990 is the base price. Add all the other costs that come with buying a brand new vehicle, you are over $40,000 quickly. So, I would say, "Tesla's got a $40,000 brand new vehicle."
I enjoyed this review in the way they broke down the thinking behind the image or the purpose of each vehicle. I find the Bolt good looking and the fact it has front wheel drive is much more suited in my cold and snowy winters.
These are two different beasts entirely. One is a transportation appliance. The latter is transportation bling. The former appeals to value oriented buyers. The latter to more conspicuous consumption. Tesla buyers are trading in BMWs, MB, etc. I'm not sure what Bolt buyers are trading in. Not likely a BMW or other luxury brand. It's an irony of the luxury car market that buyers will tolerate all kinds of defects and quality issues, because that's not why they buy luxury brand cars. They are accessories, an extension of their personal image. Build quality, performance and durability are besides the point.
I had been leasing the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV Premier for three years before I got the 2021 Tesla M3 this January. I enjoyed every moment with Bolt so much that I even smashed it a little ($4200 repairs) drifting in the Mountains. And of course, there is no way back to ICE cars after that. I got all the possible incentives that California could offer to me to buy Tesla. And even there was no Tax credit on them anymore I got the $45k car for just $33k. I do enjoy driving Tesla more (RWD, Autopilot, quicker, better handling) than Bolt. Though I miss the rearview mirror camera and simple blind-spot monitoring I had in my Bolt.
"When I finally parked it(Bolt) at my home charging station, it had gone 322 miles on a single charge. Not bad for a car rated at 238 miles per charge. Even more impressive was the fact that I didn't really try very hard to get that many miles out of it. I spent plenty of time in traffic, which helped, but there were a few sections that I was moving along at 65-70 mph as well. No matter how you look at it, 322 miles out of a Bolt is pretty impressive." - Ed Hellwig Edmund's
Did you really get that many miles out of it? Also i had a leaf and i believe whats not being said about the charge times is that most people don't let their battery run down until it takes a very long time to charge
@@normt430 good 2 know b/c I had a leaf & it was nerve wracking. And at the time 50% of the places that had nearby chargers would allow me to use them. Including a Nissan Dealer.
You can get a new or used Bolt for far cheaper than a Tesla, so the Bolt might be a great buy for people actually interested in EV's and not just the Tesla brand.
Telsa 3 is a solid practical choice for an EV also. Just you get a little extra mental hurdle of not being coopted into the increasingly ridiculous Musk cult.
The reason I would never buy a bolt is because it looks incredibly ugly. Like a mom's minivan ugly.. the tesla has some nice lines and curves that make it a sharp looking car in comparison. The stigma has always been electric cars are ugly and uncool cars. Tesla changes that. The bolt does not.
1:18 It looks like Windows XP from 2001, when people first saw that they called it the Fisher Price interface. The energy button is green like the XP start button.
There are a few points they missed: - the M3's longer will base likely makes it better on the freeway and rough roads - My guess is that the M3's front seats are better than the Bolt's. After about 3 or 4 hours in the Bolt, I need a break - M3 hates rear seat passengers. If you're a rear seat passenger, you will find your knees sticking up in the air. The Bolt's rear seats are much more natural. Also, the street price of the Bolt is far less than the M3. In reality, I don't think these two cars should be compared.
These guys seem to be very late to the game. Reviewing a RWD Silver discontinued *color* model 3. Tells it all. All the rave is now Model Y and the Cybertruck on the horizon.
As a Bolt owner, the Chevy hate hurts me a bit . . . but the reasons you guys picked the Bolt go along with my own reasoning quite closely. I also despise how Tesla is charging subscription fees for features that are actually built into the car when it leaves the factory. That's not a business model I want to support, even though I like the cars. I'm not impressed with their customer support either (if your bumper falls off your new car when you drive through a puddle, the manufacturer should fix it, no questions asked--especially under warranty, for example). I also couldn't afford a similarly equipped Model 3, and I actually don't want autonomous driving because, well, I really like to drive. :-) The ONLY thing I really wanted that my Bolt doesn't have is the additional speed, but my Bolt is still plenty fun to drive, and can hang with a Golf GTI on an autocross track . . . so I'm not that upset.
I love this channel and everything but this comparison is too old. You can get a $35K Tesla M3 today by calling Tesla. And that Standar Range M3 would be wayyyyyy better and cheaper that the Bolt.
Interesting review, some good points brought up. HOWEVER, saying that the Model 3 isn't a 35 000$ car and saying you need the 50K version is wrong. Even with the base model 35K, you get more for your money than with the Bolt, specially tech wise. Autopilot comes free with every model nowadays.
Not to mention no maintenance. No more oil changes, spark plugs, O2 sensor replacements, rusted exhaust, timing belts and water pumps, starters, alternators, brake pads that last three times as long on an EV, and on and on. The maintenance for the Bolt is occasional wiper fluid, blades, tires, and a coolant change at 150K miles. That's it.
At the end of the day, we want to know which car is going to last longer and which battery pack will need to be replaced first and have a better battery pack warranty. You left the most important thing out?
Pardon the analogy.... the AR15 is an effective simple design... it was designed by an aircraft engineer. By comparison Tesla is the car you get when computer guys design a car. The Chevy has a silly “low” gear for amped up regeneration. I have to “crank” the Chevy. The Tesla I just sit in and put in gear. I just walk away and it powers down and locks. It just works.
You can always tell the TV version vs the RUclips version as they never say anything negative on the TV format. The Bolt single handedly has the worst front seats I've ever experienced in a car. Straight out of the Model T.
We've never used RUclips's "Premiere" feature before we started releasing these old TV episodes. We've enjoyed having live chats with the people watching all together.
The Standard range Tesla (RWD) is $37k. If you add the full self-driving package (an upcharge of $10k), then it's $47k. The price you quoted for $59k is for the all-wheel-drive long-range battery model. Go ahead and price one out on the Tesla homepage and compare what you get for $37k and then spec out a Chevy Bolt to see the difference. Some people may prefer the physical buttons and knobs in the Bolt, but those same physical details are what's going to make it feel dated in 5 years. The reason Tesla puts everything on a single screen is so they can move features around with software updates to make it feel more modern. It's the only car that *improves* with age! I applaud Chevy for trying. There's room at the EV table for everyone, but I think for the price...the Model 3 is the clear winner (in my humble opinion).
I’d be a LOT more inclined to buy an electric or Prius-like hybrid if they didn’t look so bad. Model 3 is close but is still missing something. Also the battery maintenance is something that worries me.
Batteries are no issues. They usually have ludicrously long warranties to fight that feeling. Just as an example, my Volt 2011's battery is still over 83% it's original capacity almost 11 years latter. Also the price of replacement has went significantly down.
Can someone explain me why the model 3 does not have a hatch? A car for the people and then only half practical. It is a mystery to me. Wonderful video. You are great
This was really a great review of these cars, with the pro's and con's of each laid out very well.

Got the Bolt going out of the 2017 Volt. Bought for under $30k with most features. Love it so far.
This is by far the most honest and logical review on these two cars keeping price point , performance and tractability in focus . Subscribed. Well done guys.
Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed and pleased to have you with us!0

Surprising that for less than double the price, a little over 20,000 more there are some advantages, would have expected them to be equal.
@@rp9674 he has the money and that helps creating jobs
My point is it's silly to unfairly compare as if money is not a thing.
Model 3 is inferior to MS plaid because it's not as fast?
Ah, beautiful Utah! Love my home state.
2020. The Bolt was sold over 16,000 units in 2019. The Model 3 sold 79,000 in the third quarter of 2019 alone... let the numbers speak.
People also bought Tulips in 17th Century Holland lol
This review is pointless since most of the facts are very outdated.
Maybe you guys should update the review then
You guys should find a Kona electric and compare to the Bolt
16:09 No intelligent cruise control in the Bolt - one of few dislikes in my 2019 Bolt.
That’s one feature wish Bolt had BUT I love one ped driving...
There is now in the 2021.
Model 3 is still the better buy for me But under present economic situation is it wise for average buyer to buy a new car ?
If you can pay cash
Good job 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Good Job!! All the things I normally cringe about in these types of reviews you guys didn’t point out. I love my Chevy Bolt and it was way below a $35,000 car! You got a new subscriber here!!!!
Best comparison between these 2 cars that I've seen, and there are hundreds of them out there, as anyone shopping and comparing knows. Me? Chevy Bolt.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Bigger than a fit buddy I couldn't fit in the Honda the 6 foot 2 inch frame 290 lbs loves the bolt
You guys are the best! This was a fantastic and informative review.
I am a frugal guy. I am planning buy an off lease Chevy bolt. I see no need to spend money on an expensive aspirational car.
I love my Honda Civic 1.5T, but I'm hoping in about 10 years when I look for a new car, there will be more options for fully electric.
THey spoke in depth about Chevy brakes and Tesla acceleration. Lol. And yes, few have heard of the Bolt because GM doesn’t seem to want to sell it.
Hmmmm....I'd be more inclined to choose the new MINI SE over either one for in-town motoring with base model cost of $30K less $7,500 Fed Tax credit...Yep...
I'd think a used Bolt at $20k for double the range and larger interior room might be the better bet.
If you have that much taxes to write off then ya $7,500 is good but the average person will probably only get half of that. Thats what happened to me when I bought a 2018 volt.
The MINI is a piece of crap.
Glad you enjoy your Bolt. They are definitely under appreciated.
Today, Bolts are selling for about $23 -$30K
I'm not sure why they keep comparing these two other than they enjoy comparing Tesla's to Chevy. They are not targeting the same people. A used Model 3 is about 33K. You can get a new Bolt for that. This is like comparing a Chevy Tracker to a Jeep.
Great video, gentlemen. Would love a 3 of a Bolt, but honestly, still love my '13 Volt. And, that car cost me 16k, not 35k+.
We had a '13 Volt until it was totaled. 2.5 years ago we had no option to buy a used Bolt and bought a new one. Used 2017 Bolts are off lease for mid- high teens with 30K miles.
@@moniack Yep. They are giving away used Bolt's with extremely low miles.
One of the best reviews i ever saw
Camera angles, details about each features, editing and impressive shots of the city
Bravo guys ...
This is how the car review should look like
And my honest review i drove both tesla and bolt.
Tesla is a brand..thats iphone of cars we can't compare with anything but bolt is best commute car for daily use..it is awesomely smooth and handles great in every aspect😊
Glad you enjoyed this. We greatly appreciate your thoughts and compliments. Thanks for watching!

The Tesla 3 is a beautiful small car. The Bolt is one of the dorkiest-looking cars you can buy. Why did GM choose to make an ugly car?
the tesla model 3, y, s, chevy bolt, kia esoul are ugly like almost every other EV except the porsche tacyan
also the model 3 is not a "small car"
Because if you're a petrol car maker all the oil companies require that any electric car you make be both ugly and slow. Witness any electric car made by a company that also makes oil or petrol burners.
It’s not a small car lol. It’s a freaking midsize sedan big as the current 3 series.
I heard that after someone drove the Tesla, the Bolt felt cheap. Go onto RUclips and see how the new Teslas are being delivered with faulty workmanship. I drove expensive Cadilacs and Corvettes, and I love my Bolt EV! It is a quality car.
Well, not much has changed; you still can't order a $35k model 3, and even when you could, it didn't last for long.
You can but with tax its $37k and you have to call Tesla over the phone
You can still order the $35k 3. And if course you pay tax
Yes u can dummy
You can, you just have to call them to special order. See Edmund's review ruclips.net/video/yXsBcpp5BKs/видео.html
The 2023 Bolt is now $5000 cheaper before rebates. It is a marvel to drive. You can drive it with one foot and hardly ever use the brakes!
With Tesla, you are dependent on Tesla for parts and service. It takes months for body shop work. Rich Rebuilds started an independent shop to get around Tesla parts and service holes.
nobody cares
I put in my order for a 2021 Bolt Premier trim when the order window opened on October 8th. It will have the mid-cycle enhancements that address the critiques of the vehicle so many have had. Once I receive it I’ll have the windows tinted with 3M film which will give the car an elegant touch. My down payment will allow me to lease the car for less than $200/month. A futuristic car without the learning curve dressed up as an ICE hot hatch. Works for me.
And you can drive it now like a normal car and try the new driving features and see which one you like or not.
That was done very well. Very entertaining to watch. Very informative. One place to Tesla kills the bolt, is in looks.
Can get brand new non Premier Bolts right now for less than 30k.
I just bought a well optioned bolt. 20,000 miles for $15,000 in excellent condition. Can't be beat on bang for your buck EV.
@@adamdrury9677 do you negotiate ?
Salt lake looks empty. Cool cars though and for around town just about right.
SLC with corona or not is always empty (in comparison with other cities)
This review was fair in 2018, but it is terribly out of date now. You can buy a Model 3 for $42,000 and pick it up tomorrow. A Bolt is $30,000 IF you can find one that isn't marked up. In 2018 the $30k price difference made the Tesla hard to recommend, but now at $12k over the Bolt, you are getting good value for that extra money.
The Tesla design is gorgeous but the Bolt EV has so much room in it!!!
All of you guys are not comparing Apples to Apples. Used Tesla 2018 is $30,000 used Bolt 2018 $15,000.....whole different class!
The new 2023 Bolt has transmission buttons now.
As of this writing just over 650,000 Model 3s and 55,000 Chevy Bolts have been sold.
"GM...are used to the car is done! its finished!" LMAO how did that one work out for them? xD
Off lease Bolts are dirt cheap now. Much better bang for the buck than M3.
Good to see my hometown salt lake city.
They should use the Cadillac or Olds brand and give it a nicer front. The tesla is an icon like a Porsche.
Very well done video analysis! Surprised this doesn't have more views.

17:04 he is neither, but he wants to be Tony Stark :P
The reason I would never buy a bolt is because it looks incredibly ugly. Like a mom's minivan ugly.. the tesla has some nice lines and curves that make it a sharp looking car in comparison. The stigma has always been electric cars are ugly and uncool cars. Tesla changes that. The bolt does not.
the teslas are still ugly just like basically every EV, except the porsche taycan
@@carholic-sz3qv Overpriced junk. Similar to the likes of a BMW i8.
I'm sorry, I do like buttons and the Bolt has buttons. Oh, and the navigation maps are great!!!

I just got the word that a fully loaded Bolt is $5000 cheaper than the Tesl Model 3.
1:18 It looks like Windows XP from 2001, when people first saw that they called it the Fisher Price interface.

Today agree with the review.
There are a few points they missed:
- the M3's longer will base likely makes it better on the freeway and rough roads
- My guess is that the M3's front seats are better than the Bolt's. After about 3 or 4 hours in the Bolt, I need a break
- M3 hates rear seat passengers. If you're a rear seat passenger, you will find your knees sticking up in the air. The Bolt's rear seats are much more natural.
Also, the street price of the Bolt is far less than the M3. In reality, I don't think these two cars should be compared.
Honestly the Bolt should have an LG badge on it. I'm wondering how it would sell.
You should test out a Model 3 Performance with Track Mode V2. It’s a very different experience.
These guys seem to be very late to the game. Reviewing a RWD Silver discontinued *color* model 3. Tells it all. All the rave is now Model Y and the Cybertruck on the horizon.
The only cars that you can “have right now” are the ones that no one wants.
Did you guy actually pick a Bolt or the Telsa 3?
I love this channel and everything but this comparison is too old. You can get a $35K Tesla M3 today by calling Tesla. And that Standar Range M3 would be wayyyyyy better and cheaper that the Bolt.
Interesting review, some good points brought up. HOWEVER, saying that the Model 3 isn't a 35 000$ car and saying you need the 50K version is wrong. Even with the base model 35K, you get more for your money than with the Bolt, specially tech wise. Autopilot comes free with every model nowadays.
I’m assuming Electricity is cheap in the rest of the country. But not here in the NE with UNITIL.
Still far cheaper than Gas.
That's it.
The Bolt is being redesigned. I assume they are going to fix the seats.
The 2021 supposedly has better seats. I don't mind them but I only have a 15 minute commute. Really it depends on your body type.
$3k is now $10k for FSD, unreal.
And not worth it....
@@EverydayDriver Agreed!
10K for level 2!!! Not even close to FSD! False Advertising Elon, LOL
All electrics have amazing torque to allow you to take off quickly. However, the HUMMER EV i($120,000) is a bit slow at 9000 pounds.
But I still want the Model 3 for the performance, handling, and environment. And, i have a modified bolt as a daily driver.
Really not a fan of these 'pre-videos." Why post if its not out?
Put a grill with teverse fans to generate electricity
Everyday driver has such a wholesome community that they didnt pick the Tesla and the comments are disappointingly tame.
Putting the bolt against the model 3 is like ordering a man into the no man land
Trying to decide weather to get a Chevy bolt EUV or model 3 and this video didn’t help at alllllllllllll
Unrelated, but: Can we get NSX(2019) vs R8 vs C8 Corvette?
