A movie for men with no girl bosses? Count me in
It’s boring
it's a movie about toxic masculinity... where the wife wins out in the end.
Guys, Comer’s accent was SPOT ON. Nichols played a clip of the original interview of the real Kathy from his phone and holy crap, Comer is a dead ringer. It’s so unfortunate that this is one of the big criticisms I keep seeing because she worked so hard to get this accent right. And she 100% did.
Yeah she definitely did
I heard the real Kathy from those original recordings. Jody Comer NAILED it. You can't even tell the difference between the two.
It's a classic old school Chicago accent. I knew a girl back in 1999 from Chicago that sounded a lot like Jody Comer does in The Bikeriders.
To say "the accent was distracting" tells me that Alan has never left Los Angeles.
If there’s one male movie star in today’s culture it’s Austin Butler. Quentin Tarantino thrust him onto the big screen.
more like feminine gay icon.
Allan was taking Kramer’s idea for a coffee book table
Now, why do they call it a coffee table? It's not made out of coffee..
All I know is that these guys were the scuzziet dudes in the country when everyone else was still rocking buzz and crew cuts. In terms of just the way they looked alone, these biker types were from a whole 'nother planet. I'm totally watching this.
I have high hopes for this movie
Don’t make them too high, _The Bikeriders_ is largely a chill movie.
I just went an saw it and I loved it.
@@Uhtred-the-boldSeeing it tomorrow. Looking forward to it
It reminded me a lot of the great movies from the early 2010s
It's great.
Happy 100th, Drinker and Mauler! Well deserved!
I've been hoping this is good
It's on the agenda...to see
I saw this last night and loved it. It is definitely like a photography book come to life. I really liked Michael Shannon’s character although his is more minor compared to his earlier team-ups with Mike Nichols.
To be honest. When I hear the word manly, Austin Butler is not a name I would ever think of. But I will give it a go.
He's a pretty boy actor with an insured face, and he's definitely riding on his good looks as far as I can see. His acting skills are adequate at best, personally.
They weren't trying to make us feel bad lmao they were just giving backstory to the character
When I first saw the title for this film a week or so ago my mind went "they should use the song Bikeriders by Lucero in the soundtrack" as it's one of my favorite songs by that band. So, Thursday my local paper published a review and I saw that the lead characters were Kathy and Benny, which just happened to be the only two names in the lyrics of the song. It seems the movie and the song were both based on the same book and, yes, it is on the soundtrack. That alone is a positive recommendation for me because the song itself paints a compelling story lyrically, will be seeing this one.
The writer/Director Jeff Nichols is the brother of Ben Nichols of Lucero.
I watched the movie three times. I really liked it. Very. Especially after the frame-by-frame analysis of Jeff and Tom in the Esquire studio. 👍🔥
Glad to hear this movie got a positive review from FT. I was excited to see it as soon as i saw the trailer. Too bad there are no more drive ins 'cause id ride out to see it! Huge fan of Brando and Lee Marvin in the Wild Ones.
Tom Hardy and motorcycles. I’m in.
Why?
Thanks for the review. I just saw this movie yesterday. Loved it. I plan on trying to catch it again. Awesome use of “scourcing” (mostly a score made up of needle drops of songs). For me, a 9/10
It's not about fake tough guy movies. It's about bringing back movies that are not saturated with and based around hedonism. What good are "manly" guys in movies when none of them have any moral compass and just possess an "anything goes" narrative?
Would you have really enjoyed Die Hard if John McClain had been fighting against Hans Gruber so that a drag queen story time could be held at Gruber's local library?
Are we so desperate for entertainment that we'll trade the last 7 or 8 years of poorly done, agenda driven IMMORAL movies for agenda driven AMORAL movies as long as there are "tough guys" in them? Is that really any better?
Be careful, because Hollywood always wants to propagandize the audience with one HARMFUL agenda or another.
On the contrary, does anyone remember The Avengers from 2012? Do you recall how good that movie made us all feel, even months after we first saw it?
Black Widow referred to Thor and Loki as basically gods. And Captain America told her, "There's only one god ma'am. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that."
I saw the movie at the theater twice and both times the audience applauded for that line.
That was then.
Can you imagine that line being spoken in a major motion picture in 2024? And if so, how would we all honestly react to it?
Maybe we need to take a closer look at ourselves and what we expect and demand from movie studios.
Dude....chill...out
Beat it dork.
@@offdacorner sorry, but the film studios, like all businesses, have only one agenda: make a large profit.
“…also there was not a lot of diversity.” Sounds like my kind of movie. I’m in.
Based
Comer’s accent is the old school Chicago accent. Anyone 50 years old and up that we’re born and raised in Chicago would remember it.
But it’s a dying accent. Doesn’t exist anymore in the younger generation.
Other examples: Joe Pesci does the old school Chicago accent in the film Casino. Dennis Franz from NYPD Blue also has this accent. The SNL skit “Da Bears”, those guys had that accent.
It’s Jeff Nichols. He’s one of my favorite directors. Mud was excellent, so was Loving. I love, love, love Midnight Special
I think this is getting us only half way to getting manly movies. The motorcycles gangs began in 1945 with returning traumatized World War II veterans not being able to re-integrate back into American society. During the war, they were effectively nomads on wheels, going from town to town, living rough, and dealing violence to our enemies on the behalf of those of us who sleep in their beds at night. A percentage of them could not break out of this life style when they came back. The men who got regular jobs, got wives and started to raise families under the burdens they acquired during the war are the real men. My dad was one of them. He'd been a seaman on a minesweeper in the Pacific theater. He'd had a buddy go overboard and float into the screws of his ship and chopped up in front of his eyes. If the A-bomb had not been dropped, I might not be here now. This was a man.
Someone's been spending a lot of time in the history section of Barnes and Nobel
100% and good for you sharing for sharing !!! As a motorcycle enthusiast, you nailed the history.
Just rode my 1979 kawasaki to work yesterday. Chris its EVERY city ppl are on their phones. Its why i only ride to work RARELY. Otherwise i take backroads at non traffic times
Great review! Thank you, guys!
They were trying to make you feel sorry for the future gang leader. They were trying to show you the broken background that made this villain compared to Jonny’s home life which literally was his wife(spoilers) asking him to get milk before he was going to a knife fight.
Thanks, a film I hadn't heard of, but which is relevant to my interests. I'll check it out. Also, Chris, never say never. Modern Triumphs are pretty decent bikes, and even Royal Enfield are turning out proper modern-classics that are really practical and fun daily rides, if you can look beyond the power-to-weight figures.
Coffee book table. Yeah, Alan's dyslexic hahaha. Everyone leave him alone! 😂
The background story on the character that ends up doing the "terrible thing" at the end of the film was probably the result of studio notes by Gascón supporting executives. We have to feel sorry for murderers, rapists and corrupt politicians. They are the REAL victims.
Saw this movie last week, enjoyed it 👍🏼
Looks like "The Wild One" at first look. Hopefully a step in the right direction. May check it out on cheap Tuesday.
Coffee book table 😂😂
I'm with you Chris I have been riding sense I was in high school and still do. I have a old 1979 Yamaha RD400F Daytona Special 2stoke street bike I'm working on. It was the last year of the air cool 2stole street bike to be sold in the US before the EPA out law them. Back in the day they were known as hooligan bike or the giant killer and it lived up to it. So I'm going to check this movie out.
So - the first trailer I saw for this was during a ‘I watched the ten worst movies on IMDB’ and I genuinely believed it was on the list and it was so bad I’d never heard of it.
Bike sales must be down if they are hyping this kind of thing, probably great if yr part of that dying era - but not a film for the under 40s.
After leaving the theatre I was proud to be a man. ❤
Approaching Black Adam levels of hype here, and everyone remembers how that went.
Top 3 movies of the year
Makes me want to ride a bike again - sweat, grease, gasoline and testosterone - they should put those over their movie posters. Will check it out, sounds good.
Saw it with my dad and we had a lot of fun with it. I wasn't big on the ending though.
"get over her accent" that is how the real person spoke... she listened to recordings taken of the real person and did a pretty damn good imitation of them... if you have to "get over" the accent, read the book instead.
《MAD MAX: Bikerider Road》
👽 🖖 🤖
It was good, way too much downtime though that lets down a cool concept with a good cast. Movie still has its scenes though where it’s fun.
What are you talking about? I thought it was a great hangout movie that really seemed to capture the slice of life aspect
Nostalgia on steroids
Critic response for this one has been sooo mixed but I like Jeff Nichols movies. I might give it a shake.
Wait tell us more about these coffee book tables!
Movie was damn good, made me miss riding my motorcycle. Go see it
Good movie.
haha, always funny to see the interactions of Chris and Alan, how Chris is always correcting Alan, some minor irritation passes and they move on :D
Now call me crazy if you want but here goes, Austin Butler as Gambit.
Whaddya say?
Nooooo…
His career is destined for better things
@@TheMovieTeaserNot in the current MCU. I mean maybe someday when they've come to their senses, if they ever do that is.
@@Nova-fh2etWell I sure do hope so.
No right now , unless you want him making out with cyclops.
Awsome
I am going to see this tomorrow
So I won't watch the video
But this just looks like a great summer movie
I love how Chris can't help but spoil movies 🤣
"Shakespeare on motorcycle" - Film Threat
I wonder when Alan's PC isn't trying to kill itself? Support the channel, help Alan buy a new PC.
cant wait to see this..and im glad alan brought up her accent because her dialogue and voice is so offputting in the trailers ive seen 2bh
Alan, should violence be "cool"?🤔
You're moralizing a mostly fictional, stylized artform. Should violence be cool? If I'm watching a Quinton Tarantino movie then yes, I am entertained by "cool" violence. What a movie should do is completely subjective and depends on the type of movie and what the writer/director is trying to achieve. A documentary about the holocaust Holocaust would not work with "cool" violence.
The only question I had after this movie was what the hell happened to the young lady in the red short dress 😐...
I wanna watch this badly but it’s not on imax or Dolby 🤦♂️
I found the opposite. They showed his dysfunctional family life to express why people go off the rails and not to sympathise with it. It's just a fact.
It’s never occurred to me in 60+ yrs that I need ‘manly’ movies to be a man. Charles Bronson grew up without a television and didn’t see a movie till he joined the military.
Nope. I'll just go watch south park's episode again.
No wokeness, take my money
Jon Heder and Austin Butler the same person??? or related???
😅😅 Never seen it. Now I can't unsee it.
so a gay stereotype
Do you think he’s manly? That’s the little Twink that they had play Elvis once. And the very beginning of the movie gaslighted the viewer when Tom Hanks voice came on, and said Elvis was a skinny boy wearing lady’s eye makemakeup on stage… Elvis played football in high school- he was 100% beefcake. He was very tall, and beefy, and not ever a skinny boy. How dare they!
One look at that poster and my initial post is confirmed, gay looking lead, flanked by a girl boss.
Yep….”manly” movie and you show some editorial, make model looking guy….
sons of anarchy did this first
"Sons of Anarchy" isn't a period piece, though. This film goes back to the origins of outlaw biker criminal activity.
Horrible film, slow and boring. could have been great. wasted talent on this film.
It's an average movie at best.
The character will likely be gay, weak, and need to be saved by a girl boss. HARD pass.
Lost me at Tom Hardy. This sounds terrible.
Thr movie is a deconstruction of toxic masuclinity. Very feminist movie
One look at the movie poster is all I need to know. A biker movie with a strong female protagonist as top billing... Subtle wokeness is still woke...
It sounds a bit like S.o.A.🤔
Jodie Comer ruins it. The rest was good but she's terrible
Does she have a lot screentime?
@@NightsEye1117she is basically the main character
She is the narrator
Her voice is kind of annoying
Nothing in this film looks remotely interesting to me.
Still looks awful though & Hardy’s accent is ridiculous 💀
Boring af. Couldn't finish it.
It's a chick flick.
Woman is the boss in this movie. So annoying also. Hardly to watch. What a stupid movie. Do not watch.
Boring movie
Was good, the girl was annoying...and no story...but was ok .tom Hardy was great
