I wonder if, due to RUclips, more people actually know about Louis than John? There are tons of music fans out there that can now do a quick search and find out who played that great guitar solo on their beloved tunes. That’s how I found Louis. Someone should sent John Mr. Shelton’s resume! So many iconic solos!

John couldn't "hear" that riff right. That's funny. I've seen a lot of jazz guitarists who are terrible at bending strings to odd pitches as was done by the Allman Brothers and most other classic rock bands. Jazz guitarist vibrato is usually weak as well...but who knows more about what you can play than them or classical guitarists? Louie Shelton served the song better than anyone as a session musician. What a hit machine!

I met Jerry Donahue and stayed for a Hellecasters practise. After he said do do you want to hang out for two hours? He showed me finger style guitar and tried to teach me last train to Clarksville. I sucked and he was amazing. It is a memory that I will never forget. I also got to jam with Will Ray another time. Along with John Jorgenson the nicest guys ever❤

@@martydibergi5228 Louis Shelton flat-picked the solo from Last Train to Clarksville. There is some hybrid picking (pick and finger) of a riff on top by Jerry McGee.

I doubt Sco has messed with that lick or let alone heard it in over 45 years. It's banjo rolls... triplets. I think he could very well manage it. Your "weak" take on Jazz players comes off as snobbish and not well versed. I think you really need to open your ears to a hell of alot more players. LS wrote the guitar parts. There is 3 guitars playing.

@@RickMcCargarues i rewatched his video. Jerry as you know often used a thumb pick and fingers. Similar sounding to me. Then again I was in awe meeting a guitar hero. Jerry was also a huge Gerry McGee fan. At the time I had never heard of Louie or Gerry. Thanks!!! At 72 and not in great health, love learning all that I can. Especially guitar related😊
