    Thank you for a fantastic review we've all been waiting for. I've been using the G16 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 and RTX 4080 for a week now. My Time Spy CPU scores consistently range between 11,457 and 11,464 across five tests. I ran all these tests using G-Helper. The best total score was 15,232. I mention this because the CPU score you mentioned in your review for the Intel Core Ultra 9 seems a bit on the low end.

    for anyone worried about heat being an issue when plugged in - I used a couple of the intel versions (ultra 7 and 9) for a month each. I played with the fan and power settings in g helper so that it would use a lot less power unless I changed power modes. I had very few heating problems with this, except when gaming or whatever.

    Hi ! I'm currently looking for a new computer. The thing is I needed something usable for school (not too noisy, decent battery life) and at the same time I want to play a few games (elden rings etc)
    I was first considering going for an M3 16" mac as everyone seemed to agree but then I discovered the Rog Zephyrus that seemed perfect for my use case:
    - windows (so I can play games)
    - good gpu
    - good cpu
    - good battery life
    I can get a G14 with the Ryzen 9 8945HS an RTX 4060 and 32go of ram for 2000 euros.
    The only downside is the screen size that might be too small (I do data science, currently using a 15" laptop).
    Then, I stumbled uppon the G16. I can get the AI 9 HX 370 + RTX 4060 for 2500 euros. The bigger screen seems appealing but I'm afraid I would lose battery life and performance. In particular, I saw some people had power issue with the new G16, while the G14 I want to get has already been ""tested"" by lots of users. I know the G14 is pretty silent when used for basic multitasking, I have no clue about the G16
    Furthermore, 2500 euros is the price range of mac M3 so I would be a bit sad to pay that price and get something worse than a mac.
    My plan is to keep the laptop for at least 5-6 years. Do you have any opinion on this ? Considering the G16 was not perfect out of the box, maybe it'll be less durable than the G14?
    Thanks
    PS: thanks for the very detailed review! You channel definitely deserves more exposure :D
    PS2: We have only white ones in France, it's impossible to get the black one lol

    • @GamerVsTech
      @GamerVsTech  2 месяца назад +3

      @@yanndev9450 don’t worry about battery life. The g16 beats the g14 because the battery is much bigger. Although the screen is larger, the g16 does a great job with battery life. You can really feel the performance of the AI CPU over the 8945hs. It really depends on portability since you are only planning on getting the 4060 models.
      There really isn’t a huge jump in performance between the 4060 and 4070. Definitely go with the 32gb RAM no matter what especially since you are a student. The 4060 is enough for gaming.
      Portability comes down to the size and what you are willing to bring around. Obviously the g14 is more portable. For a 14 inch laptop I do not find it to be too small. I still believe the G14 is one of the greatest laptops of all time because of how much they pack into a small frame.
      The screen is amazing on both these devices. However, once you use the g16 it’s hard to go back to the g14 because of the bigger screen. I don’t really see a huge difference in weight to me. It doesn’t bother me. If you have a nice bag or backpack to carry a 16 inch laptop then great. It’s still very thin and not thick at all.
      But overall the g16 is amazing. Battery life is wildly good. Screen size is a huge plus. My recommendation to you to get the max performance is if you get either the g14 or g16 install ghelper instead of the ASUS armoury crate software. You’ll get a better performing machine. Also, go grab the small silicone laptop prop to get better airflow while working on a flat surface. It’s not necessary but it helps with thermals.
      I’ll be doing a video on this shortly. Hope this helps.

    • @yanndev9450
      @yanndev9450 2 месяца назад

      @@GamerVsTech thank you very much for the detailed answer! I'll go see the g14 in a shop tomorrow to know if 14" is enough or not. If it's too small to game on, I might go for the g16.
      Also, the fact that the screen of the g14 is 3k while the one on the g16 is 2.5k makes almost no difference right ?
      Anyway, if the battery life and cooling is better on the g16 ai, I'll probably go for it !! (And return it to Asus if it's not as good as expected)
      However, is the G16 as silent as the G14 ? Aren't the triple fans messing things up?
      Finally, I own a razer laptop stand (and I have an external keyboard), I guess this will do the job for the airflow ?
      Thanks again :)

    Firstly great review! Good catch on the 2nd PCIE slot being 4.0 x2, it sucks.. but a neat work around is to buy the cheapest Gen 4 drive and then you know you're pinned at 4GB/s, sometimes it works out cheaper than fancy Gen 3 SSD's. Note on the runtime error I've had that on a Lenovo laptop before, it's definitely corrupted Windows or faulty unit. Mediatek WiFi card can be flaky sometimes while online gaming, could try swap for Intel card? I wonder how much G-Helper would help with power-mode/power issue? 1. If I am needing to have a laptop by August 19th (so really soon) for college (and gaming), would you recommend getting this laptop now or get the G14? Or do you know of other laptops that may be better options?
    2. Also, is the Asus rog zephyrus g16 with the intel cpus and the 4080 good/battery efficient/thermally cool? I was worried about Intel CPUs after the issues with raptor lake and raptor lake refresh, so I'm hesitant about anything intel tbh because of those instability issues.
    3. I'd ideally want something that basically works out-of-the-box, but I can do some technical tweaks to fix issues if necessarily (though I'd prefer not to need to do so lol).
    4. Lastly, do you think a 14" or 16" laptop would be better for college and gaming, including taking the laptop to classes?

      @@riptidegaming06 this is a toss up. The G16 didn’t work nearly as good as the G14 out of the box. But, if you follow my fixes you’ll be able to get it running great and avoid the time wasted that I had. I cannot say how soon you get the laptop. Depends on your location. I like overnighting my electronics to get the faster.
      The intel is simply not nearly as good for gaming on the igpu on battery which is what you would want to do if you want max battery life by lowering tdp to let’s say something like 17 or 20 watts. Intel simply cannot perform like AMD at those wattages. Intel is hotter.
      Lastly 16 inch screen is beautiful. I definitely prefer the size over the 14. The 14 is a little more portable. But if you can squeeze the extra 2 inches in your backpack then go for the 16. It’s more powerful, bigger and stronger for around the same money. Keep in my the out of the box issues I had. But they can be fixed and I’m sure ASUS will smooth all that out soon.
