If thoroughbred racing and those that partake in it interest you, you might enjoy First Mount, a short novelette that I read recently about a young jockey’s travails at making the weight to get his first ride and what he’s willing to endure to get it.

I feel so bad for this man. He so obviously loves the sport and also so obviously wants to eat normally and feel more confident about his own health...

He is obviously too big to be a jockey

Laffit Pincay weighed 117 for thirty years and his diet was unbelievably sparse. Lukas told the story of flying with him to an out-of-state race and as they prepared for take-off, Laffit ate half a peanut. When they landed, he ate the other half.

I feel really bad for him! There should be a (higher) weight minimum!

or he is just too big to be a jockey

Our society is sick in the head.
He knows right from wrong and chooses to starve himself.
"Luxury of feeling full" is an odd statement.
I admire the honesty and shame the physical and mental abuse of it all.
All for what...a trophy, money, and a reputation?
Here's a sport...put a monkey on your back and run in circles. First one to reach the banana wins.
    Pathetic

Admitting he was a heaver does not make him honest...or interesting for that matter.
