    Dude, there shouldn't be anything negative to say when after fully disclosing the fact that you are learning and pretty much teaching yourself as you go. From that perspective your doing a great job. People like me are still watching 👍

    Seriously your doing a great job and I love watching you work. I am inspired that I could do this on my own problem zones on my M3. I've never welded in my life but I have done some research and watching your work gives me that push that "I can do it too". Your car is going to be that car you and many others have wished they could have. And now you will!

      Thanks Greg - I appreciate the words of encouragement! You can definitely do it too!

    Dude. Looking awesome. This gives me the confidence to try similar repairs on my E30 without really knowing what I’m doing. Keep it up. Just finished all these E30 project videos. Can’t wait for the next one!

    great work! two suggestions:
    1) use a bed liner spray or some sort of textured coating and re-cover the rear and side valences, so they will all match
    2) consider getting your next project car from California, lots of rust-free cars here :)

      just an add on to this! did the exact same thing for my 318is' rocker panel. Rocker Guard from canadian tire or home depot etc is a great cheap aerosol can that matches the wrinkled look of the rockers. I did a shitty quick repair in about an hour on mine. the rocker guard has still held up great after 3 yrs

    I just got an e30 for 3weeks now and just actually went under it and discovered rust on the passenger side. Sucks, idk how to weld. Well, probably not gonna say idk how since I never done it before. I was just gonna cut out the rust and bondo it and then use sheet metal followed by a bed liner paint. Haha. I do all of the work mechanically, just not that good in body work. You made it look so easy. Haha

  • @mateighiorghie8404
    @mateighiorghie8404 4 года назад

    Hey there! I suggest you to pour chassis wax into every component you welded, just to make sure your car doesn't catch interior rust any time soon! (in the rockers for example)

    Nice! Making some good progress. With double layered panels like here and the last video, how do you make sure you don't weld the outer one to the inner, or does it not matter?

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  6 лет назад +2

      That's a good question. Sometimes welding the two layers together is inevitable since there is such a small gap. But, in the case of the rear valance (in this video) and the rear wheel arch (previous video), welding the two panel layers together is actually desired. From the factory, the panels are spot welded together in a few spots. I have tried to retain some factory spot weld locations (like in the wheel arch radius) but in the valance, I just ran a weld bead on the interior seam of where the two panels meet. You can't see it in the video, but it's there.

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  5 лет назад

      Each rust area varied greatly. The rear valance was probably 5-6 hours, where the rocker panel was 1-2 hours.

      Five gallons of bed liner would have been the real ticket!

    • @Mahalalee1
      @Mahalalee1 5 лет назад +1

      What would you have preferred he do in his garage? The cost to replace the firewall, rocker, floor pan, valance, inner and outer wheelhouses, etc. would have far exceeded the value of the resulting car. The value of these cars is going up, but I doubt it will be high enough to justify factory level replacements for every hole. Maybe if you have a body shop and can get better prices on panels. In the US, the cost of labor alone would be more than the car is worth. Doing it himself is a challenge that he can learn from, and makes his E30 roadworthy and drivable.
