Rhett: “what’s the budget for this video about us digging a hole?”
Link: “yes.”
Hey @MIgardener! Love your channel even more knowing you're a mythical beast! 🌱☺️
took a minute to see who made that comment haha
Dude, I was just saying I miss Rhett and Link making music and random form videos. And literally days later we get this treat! I hope it gets more likes so they continue to do this sort of thing.
what @nikkireigns said!!
MIGARDENER!!!!!! Yessss!
Why does this silly little video of Rhett and Link making a medium sized hole feel like a whole ass movie?
Well it is a masterpiece so it is halfway of being a movie
I'd watch it
Because if you were a committed Mythical Beast and listened to their podcast you would know that’s exactly what it is supposed to be…!
@@Nooticus lol, I've listened to every ep of ear biscuits like 3 times each at least 😅 which episode are you talking about?
idk why but i gives off “earth to echo” vibes..
After watching two men philosophically discover what it means to dig a medium sized hole, I think I’ve gained a medium sized understanding about the meaning of life. Thank you Rhett and Link.
The instantaneous harmony they sang is incredibly impressive and just proves to me how great of singers they are. These two are generally just awesome
Ex- worship leader problems 😹 people always ask you how you can harmonize so easily… but you don’t want to ruin the campfire vibe
I WANT THIS SONG ON SPOTIFY RIGHT NOW.
they also have been singing tg for most of eachothers lives so im assuming they just know how to harmonize specifically to eachother
They are! They have so many talents. They’re comedians, writers, singers, actors, and directors. And they’re so creative and original it’s crazy!
I’m not gonna ruin any magic you think is going on here
Props to whoever colour graded this video.
Me, knowing nothing about color grading: ...I agree
I’m a colour grader. I give it an A+ 🤓
Absolutely!
I don’t grade color I believe they’re all equal
Dang, I just watched this at night with my brightness way down... I guess I'll have to watch it again in the morning!
That song coming in out of nowhere with perfect harmonies was damn PERF.
Honestly the melody at 7:31 is so nice to listen to. I don't even care how silly the lyrics are, I love these songs
brought a tear to my eye
@@lgnbby Mixed with Rhett’s dance walk, it was absolute perfection.
so so perf
Yes!!! I felt that too! ❤
This is what RUclips needs right now
This is what RUclips and the world needs all of the time lol
rhett: won't trust link with a knife
also rhett: lets link control the bull dozer
Excavator
when did they use a bulldozer?
@@jasonshenault42069he says 2 months after the OG commented was corrected. Man…. You’re like super funny.
This felt nostalgic but brand new at the same time. Like they were able to capture the conversations and silliness of the purposeless tasks you and a friend would assign yourselves as kids. Awesome!
Yes I totally agree. I love the way it made me feel like a kid playing with my neighborhood friends when I was growing up. Very nostalgic and silly.
RIGHT!!!
I tried to dig a hole to China with my best friend when we were eight. About two and a half feet across and about five feet down before we quit. 😂
Nostalgic but brand new is the perfect description!
This is a really great way of describing this video's energy
this feels less like a youtube video and more like a short film, it's really inspiring how the editing and pacing really made it feel so much more cinematic
That’s the whole point of what they are trying to do now. In their recent Ear Biscuits episodes, they hint to the fact that they’ve given up for now with trying to get big production companies to finance their films and they will just make them themselves! Inspiring!
@@Nooticus I'd love to hear them talk about that, which episode(s) are you referring to?
It feels more like a medium sized film to me
youtbube.
Medium sized documentary
This is the perfect allegory for how just doing something with someone becomes a great thing.
Link can be deep at times:
4:23 "Are we making a pile or are we making a hole?"
9:43 "It's okay to fail by succeeding too hard"
But other times:
0:38 "Are you hungry for some hole?" ... 😆
The fact these two have managed to stay relevant for as long as they have really speaks to just how entertaining they are.
And how unproblematic they are! 17 years online and haven't done anything cancellable! 🙌
Well they have been best friends for like 38 years lol. They just mesh so well together as best friends and it shows. Rhett knows how Link is and vice versa lol
@jsrcamp I really think this is the recipe.
They have no relevance, never had. That’s their magic.
@@latetotheparty4785 well they have been on RUclips for a very long time with very little issues arising. And they make a lot of money as a result. You kind of need to be relevant to make CRAP on RUclips.
Rhett and Link: Let's make a work of art about love and creation and collaboration and the complex interplay between two human souls and the creative process.
Rhett and Link: But also it's hilarious.
Rhett and Link: And there's music.
Rhett and Link: And we dig a hole. A medium-sized hole.
This comment sounds like a John comment idk why lol
@@M-A-Khaki I definitely read it in John’s voice
I read this comment in The Format
AND a damn big hole
@vlogbrothers all I see in my head is Johns long microphone cord while he's saying this while laying on the floor.
I am in love with the fact this is so well made that you can see the 5 stages of grief occur in the realisation they failed initially to dig a medium sized hole
16:18 "no problem, anytime" "anytime!?" "no" made me laugh so hard
I love the nuance of how the production quality gradually increases as the plot thickens. It starts out with what seems like a casual vlog; a couple of guys just goofing around, nothing too fancy. Then as they start digging, the cinematography becomes increasingly legit. Their quest for a truly medium-sized hole becomes the most important thing in the entire world. I went into this with low expectations, but I'm truly blown away by the amount of work that went into this. Bravo!
I wish there were credits! I know the entire Mythical Crew is an important part here but I do want to know who directed it. Probably Rhett and Link themselves though.
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep It was probably Ben. He's in the BTS video.
This is an amazing comment

Don't know if anyone else pointed this out but the paintings in the background are "la grenouillère" by Monet (top) and Renoir (bottom). Monet and Renoir were friends and often painted together. They painted side by side looking at the same view for these. It's such an interesting touch to show Rhett and Link's friendship!
omggg yes!! that's such a cool little detail! Love that you noticed it :)
There's no way that was intentional
Very cool! I bet Jessie designed that room and I think she’d probably know nuances like that? I had no clue- love that you noticed :)

Those guys can carry a tune.
These are the only two people in the world who can make digging a hole a cinematic experience
The fact that these two guys managed to make digging a hole extremely entertaining is true art.
4:24 “Are we making a pile or are we making a hole?” and the subsequent discussion about it was deeper than it had a right to be
You're right. Most people focus on their goal they set out to achieve in life without thinking of the consequences of their actions on others and the environment. The pile is just as important as the hole because it's the consequences of their actions and sometimes those consequences are more relevant over time than the actual hole. This is the epitome of "we were focusing on how to do it that we forgot if we should".
so ready to tell my next detractor that i'm not focused on the medium-sized holes i'm digging, 'cause i have my eyes on the mega-sized mountain that i'm making 😢🤌
@@gl4d10 as long as that mega sized mountain is you and those you care for. Then nothing should be more important.
PLEASE bring back more videos like this! This is the quintessential Rhett and Link and it fills a medium-sized hole in my heart to see this content!
It really missed the mark for me. It filled a big-sized hole, but I don't have a big-sized hole, just a medium one. It failed.
it really does feel like the core essence of their humour but with the budget their success has created
@@jaydenweekes5242 Rhett and link are nice guys. I'm sure if you ask them nicely they'll gently stretch your hole to make it fit.
I know Rhett and Link have a budget like very few creators on the platform but the production value this video is insane.
I love that these men are at a point in there Career were they can literally just dig a hole , upload it , and I’ll watch it
I love that Link can not hold knives but he can operate an excavator
LMAO i was thinking this
Literally my thoughts exactly 😂
The decision to put Rhett, the largest of the two, into the smallest of the two excavators was a stroke of comedic genius
its crazy to think that this was their main channel back in the day, and to see all the progress they have made within themselves, their business and work is something truly heart warming
THIS IS WHAT THEY WERE COMMUNICATING. Excellent observation (no sarcasm you nailed it)
It's so weird how two guys from the other side of the world, from a different culture than my own, can bring me such joy over so many years just through the internet. Thanks guys.
Oh, and props to the rest of the crew, you guys are awesome.
That transition between the toy excavator and the real one was amazing.
The whole length of the shot at 18:59 was so brilliant.
There wasn't actually a toy excavator it was the real one.
Edit: shoot, i just realized what part you meant 😂😂, sorry about that haha
@@joshcrofts2090 no worries, this happened to me too
twinkle fingies being caught between rhett and link's directions and straight up staring at the camera like he's on the office was pure art, hahahah
Yeah that was funny.😆😆
1st of all, how entertaining this was! The song "Digging A Hole" was a banger, you two sound AWESOME together! My fav part was the music @9:54 ...So profound and beautiful in just a few notes. Who made that?? I love what ya'll are doing with these series of videos and I don't know how I just now stumbled upon them but am so grateful for more free Rhett and Link content! Your friendship speaks for itself and touches the lives of millions. I am just one ❤
This is pure art, it has depth, meaning, philosophy, maybe gmm will be a fun memory but this right here guys, this is your legacy, that will show future generations you were true real artists, and I'm glad I was alive at the same time to be able to enjoy it and grow alongside you.
Thanks southern boys, you have made the lives of millions of people a million times better
this was a philosophical enigma, a music video, a motivational message, and a dramatic comedy all in one. no one does it like y’all. bravo!
This feels like the perfect mix of every era of Rhett and Link
Rhett and Link are comedic geniuses. Some of you may disagree, but I believe the true mark of an entertainer is when you manage to make digging a hole funny.
“It’s ok to fail by succeeding too hard.” - the wisdom of Link. 🤣
I love that this felt non scripted and captured the dynamic of their friendship but also had a story line to it that I wasn't expecting!
I love how they turned the simple concept of digging a hole into an almost documentary-like short film. Also the song??? NEW ORIGINAL RHETT AND LINK MUSIC??? HELL YES. Love this era of R&L!
Yes is a mix of everything!!!! ❤
The cloud of the mole they killed at the very end, that's just art right there
bo burnham's inside is now rhett and link's outside (digging a medium sized hole)
9:44 “It’s okay to fail by succeeding too hard” great words from Link 😂
And almost certainly a metaphor for their multi-armed unscripted non-musical youtube empire not being at all what they set out to do as creatives, but being IMMENSELY successful at it.
making this my senior quote lmao
it's INCREDIBLE how the premise of this video is just "go to the dessert, dig a hole" but, they managed to make it a 26 MINUTE LONG VIDEO, AND THEY MADE JUST DIGGING A FREAKING HOLE SO ENTERTAINING
these guys are magicians, mad respect
I loved how much water you squeezed out of the "digging a hole" rock, it was really cool, how you made a song, a mini sketch a 3d recreation, and a miniature set of the flipping hole, just to know what a "medium-sized" hole is
The comedic timing, the documental-like feel, and all the work you guys have put into this is INSANE
and you know what's also insane?
That I managed to make "this video is amazing" into a 7-line-long comment!
I clicked on this video and assumed it was something they had done during the height of the pandemic. Boy, was I surprised.
This is a work of art.
There needs to be a GMM episode to this. "Will it mud bath?" See how many crew can fit in the hole for a mud bath.. lol

This felt like a fever dream from start to end.
I need more of this.
Such a fever dream :)
Vlog vibes just hit different, and I’m all about it
"So, what did you do this morning?" "I watched a video of two dudes digging a hole for no reason"
@@0Onyx13 don't forget to add "the video suddenly turned into a musical for a while, they basically stole one of their own employees to figure out exactly how large a medium-sized hole was, and Rhett accidentally killed a talking mole which was actually very proud of what they had accomplished"
This kinda takes me back to their old videos, like Finding Ms Locklear. And this is what I love about Joel Haver's work... Just pure creativity.
I thought the ending of this one was weird and didn't care for it. I think a lot of Joel's stuff is weird. But who cares... I still get such joy and inspiration from seeing someone just be creative and not worry so much about pleasing others.
Also, serendipitously, I'd planned a trip with my younger 2 sons out to the Monahans Sand dunes weeks before this came out. Then when my kids watched this, they got all excited about digging a hole out there lol. So we basically drove 5 hours to go dig a hole in the desert and we had a great time!
Rhett and link are literally my 2 ADHD brain cells trying to figure out a what a medium size hole would be.
Only Rhett and Link could manage to make an actual art film about digging a hole. Beautiful.
i cried enuf tears to fill a medium sized hole.
What about holes
This is absolute unbridled silliness and I’m so here for it.
That silliness, their dynamic and the music are my favorite things about them.
This is foolishness upon 100,000 prior foolishnesses
I cannot emphasize this enough. This is one of the best creative efforts Mythical have made in a long time.
as a kid who grew up in the middle of nowhere in the arizona desert, i also love diggin' holes.
I hope this means Rhett and Link vlogs are back.
i hope so too omg
Can any Mythical Society subscribers let us know if they teased these being back? This feels like a combination of the vlogs and the music videos and sketches.
Don't get your hopes up 😂
No, it means that this was the video for this year.
same. i love these so much
dam they really made a whole song to hide a body and to have a reason for them to go to the middle of a desert without it being weird
This is a new level of quality. It fits Mythical’s skill set perfectly.
This video feels like a profound metaphor for Rhett and Links career.
Omg yes such a great thought!
That's exactly what I was thinking.
I thought the same thing
Now we just need an elaborate discussion where they decide who gets to sit on the medium hill and who on the large. Then what privileges go with each
I can't see it any other way now. They set out to make a career but didn't set expectations too high. They got way bigger than they thought they would and didn't want to be that big either (maybe the "dark era" of GMM?). They brought GMM back to what everyone liked and now they're back on this channel too.
Link: not allowed to touch knives
Also Link: just give him a backhoe its fine

3:30 THAT LOOK AT THE CAMERA OMFG this is quality entertainment
The breakout into music production universe is always amazing
I am so glad I went into this blind.
The vlog transitioning to music video transitioning to Wes Anderson style cinematography mixed with pieces of R&L banter and all with a thread of subversive comedy and dead-pan delivery. The puppet was the most unexpected for me and it landed super well. Love love love this and can't wait to see more.
It's edging into art film
2 people symmetrically sitting beside each other in a shot = wes anderson cinematography, got it
I read this comment before watching the whole thing so I knew a puppet was coming. Yet I got so engrossed in the size of the whole when he did show up, I'd completely forgotten about it.
Anyone know who plays the voice of the mole puppet?
I swear it sounds like Rhett.
@@imarock.7662 It's Tony Hale of Arrested Development and Veep fame

i loved every single second of this omg Link impersonating the smaller excavator imma sob it's too damn cute
LMAO THAT ENDING IS SOMETHING I DID NOT EXPECT. Sometimes when you guys make your own videos I like watching them more than I like watching GMM. When it comes to Rhett and Link gagging, taste testing and giving us the best foods, give me GMM. When it comes to funny videos with a plot/script, give me the R&L channel.
I have to say, this video is something special. It's a perfect blend of their fun vlog style videos with the creative and weird storytelling from their older sketches. You can really tell, and feel, they had a blast putting it together, and that really shines through. I'm hoping we get to see more content like this in the future!
If you like this, I think you'll love Buddy System

I think it’s a testament to how entertaining you two are if this many people (including myself) are willing to watch you dig two holes in the desert. 😂
I was so glad I was not the only one thinking to my self I love these men and there efforts so much I will watch them debate and discuss how to dig a hole then dig said hole , go into why and how and what went wrong with then medium size hole that lead to the big hole debacle/ what’s a medium size hole look like ? Damn man I may just get up and go outside and dig me a hole and ponder the meaning of the size of it - and ask my neighbors if they’ve seen GMM or Rhett and links channels share and spread some love and laughs by digging a medium size hole - it’s been an awesome morning so far 🌞🌞 in sunny warm 80* Florida
