- so we had been to the site before a day of prior and on the day of in this video the contractor asked us how much money would it take to offload his other delivery truck. But stay tuned because it gets even more interesting. watch part two to this video here: • Delivery customer asks...
As a trucker if there's one thing I'll never do is touch another companies trucks or their trailers to avoid the liability
One of my friends who delivered for Lowe's had unloaded a local building supply company's trailer after his because they couldn't get their forklift running and once he was done with both trucks and got back to Lowe's his manager had gotten several calls about the other company's trailer being messed up. He got written up for it but it was found out the damage done to the other trailer was old damage and was rusted over so it turned out that it couldn't have been him.
Smart. Or take pictures
@@Unknown_Ooh No good deed goes unpunished.
In this day and age, just record the other driver saying you are not responsible. I bet they won't.
I agree with you. 99% of the time I say It's something special to you (I help friends move). I prefer you to move it then no one can get the blame.
I used to deliver materials for a lumber yard while going to college. Several times I was asked to "do a favor" for a contractor. Each and every time I would reply "No, I can't. It is not my equipment". You see, boss (the owner of the lumber yard) explained to me when I started; the equipment is his and he is responsible for what happens when it is used. So, if I am doing a "favor" and something happens, just who will be held responsible; my boss. So, no, a hundred bucks as a "favor" is not worth that degree of risk.
The worse part is they say you damage something and they go back to your dispatch then your looking for a new job
I love your videos. Thanks for taking us on the road with you. The first hand experience is nice. And my day is great.
Thank you for watching liking and subscribing and hope you enjoy your stay
I like the way your so straight forward and keep your composure all the time great job
We weren't always this calm.....
@@SaffordDelivery indeed as a delivery driver I am learning how to respond to customers better straight forward without sounding rude with these videos.
It’s surprising that a job site like that does not have a material handler or a front end/skid loader with a set of forks. Sounds like poor planning on the lead contractor’s part.
Hey my guy, I want to commend you on one of the best personality ever. Somehow your channel was in the sugg. category a few days back. I've been in corporate America many yrs and managed 64 at a time and you have just enough professionalism and humor comes when needed. Everyone should try a lol better. Thanks for being you!
Thank you that means ALOT! ❤️❤️❤️
Such a great attitude & informative ! So enjoy your vlogs! 👏🏻👏🏻
I delivered moulding to home depot's in yonkers, the Bronx, queens Brooklyn , long island and Staten island for 3 years, 4-6 stops five days a week. Once you get to know the managers and forklift operators they were great to work with. Mine were all night deliveries with 2 deliveries between 5 and 7,always tried to get done before they had to load the store trucks, now I get why they were always in such a hurry
That's a new one "Let's get this road on the show" 😆 love your vids man 💯
😂😂😂
Thanks for the trick with lowering onto the tires & shifting. Smart move 💯
Your approach to just being a bit cut throat….it works….just saying “I don’t have the time” gets the guy to just back off…
Why didn't the contractor rent a grade all ? If he knew that other truck was coming.
I haul cars. You’re like me, just gotta park wherever you can find a spot. Park and ask questions later.
not on my property you don’t ask questions first. you are told exactly what to unload the cars I have a big area just so the trucks can park and unload
@@lordBritish1 If you come out and ask me to move, I’ll move with no problem. But if you watch me pull in and say nothing, I’m gonna assume it’s ok to unload where I’m at. I’m not gonna go hunting down the person who’s in charge. Either you greet me or get the cars where I put them.
@@markhaynes3378 It drives me crazy when customers sit and watch me set up in a way they KNOW they don't want me to, then let me walk all the way to them before they say they want me somewhere else. It's an ignorant power trip and let them know it.
Omg bro love this funny shit my new favorite channel keep up the good work stay safe and godbless you and thank you for what you do
Thank you Hope you enjoy your stay
Smart guy, delivering a truckload and not making sure they have something on site to unload him. 😂
Also you want to watch how close you get to a basement wall. You can push it over just by traveling with a heavy load near it.
I don’t know $200? I’ll tell my dispatcher there’s an fender bender stuck in traffic delay about an hour!! 😂 call the wife “what you want for dinner”
the dispatcher knows the traffic as they have equipment that tells them. satellite send the truck probably have a GPS toTrack it but if you’re a private contractor there’s nothing the costumer can do
What if he is concerned with other loads being delivered on time? Dispatch means nothing if you piss off customers by being late.
I like the way you always seat belt in before operating, when I was in ESU, I had a couple of jobs where the fork lifts tipped over w the operator not belted in, he fell out first before the machine fell on him...was not pretty
Help the guy out with written consent, ur a great driver
If you told him a couple of hundred bucks, I’m pretty sure he would’ve thought you were crazy.
All the job sights that size that I have delivered to the contractor always rents a bone to unload trucks and makes it much easier to move material around the job sight as needed.
That wud b to smart...want to b a contractor etc...buy the right tools...jackasses...lol
If your going to be a contractor rent or buy equipment to do the job .I would touch another's load so your not in the middle in case something is damaged.
“Let’s get this road on the show”
😅 I’ve never heard it said that way 🥴
well you have not 😆
I got that from the movie bringing down the House with Steve Martin and Queen latifah.... It's an amazing movie
I learned a long time ago, dry box / no touch ONLY / on the CLOCK. PERIOD. It may pay less, but in the long run its well worth it.
i love watchiing this guy but it is funny he tells the helper he had and was training you take the straps off towards the rear first and now hes not doing it hahahha
That wall looks familiar. That looks like it's off 169 in Canterbury! Haven't been by there in awhile....
I don’t know a damn thing about driving trucks, or a forklift, to save my life. But that quick turn you did at the end to move the straps…like a boss. Like a boss. Lol

@@SaffordDelivery The phone screen doesn’t do it justice. I watched it on the big screen in UHD haha
Someone with integrity, safety conscious and a nice guy, I hope your boss appreciates you. Hint- $$$$$
He is his own boss! :)
@@JosueSantiagoG thus I appreciate me 🤣😂❤️
@@SaffordDelivery Good one, just make sure you take time for you now and then. LOL
He could have started out with a fair amount that would compensate for the time and risk you're taking . Risk is double . How heavy was his load ? It looked like 1000 kg + packages
Too much liability unloading someone's elses stuff .
Unload the other truck, and then expect claims for damaged materials.
Naw not really they really will pay you... I do the same thing delivery driver same equipment and if you're good at your job u not f ing nothing up ...eazy money at least 150-200
not when you photograph everything, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Thats not a real worry since he is vide recording his stops.
Let's get this road on the show : )
That other trucker might be looking for a moffet now
I built my house .with me n dad...pain in the ass...but saved lots of money...i bought a used tractor with front end loader with forks...so i cud do all the heavy lifting...instead of driving around in his 90 thousand dollar truck...drive a 5 thousand dollar truck n buy a tractor fork lift etc....dont count on others count on urself...
At the beginning: is this the same guy?
Lol
Contractors are all like that, and he would would have paid $20 at the most to unload that other truck. They're also good at saying, "There are men out at the job site to unload." When you get there, there is no one and no equipment. This is commonly done to smaller companies, the contractor expects the driver, and if he has a helper, to hand unload and stack. Bigger companies like Home Depot have "curbside service only" polices.
Liability issues on other truck to unload, tell him to call them and pay to have it unloaded, you can not afford his small cash payment. You are professional and do a great job on all loads.
You just have to ask yourself one question are you a) an independent contractor/truck driver or b) do you work for the lumber yard. If A then no problem your insurance will cover your liability and I would charge them either cash with a receipt or I would be happy to invoice you (min $200). If B then there is ZERO chance of me doing that because insurance won't cover any accident making me liable for everything and if employer finds out I can lose my job so its not worth it.

You work primarily in ct? That's where I'm from so funny I found your videos
I would do it if it took only 15 minutes. But it's clearly up to the person.
How is that your problem that they weren't prepared to unload the other truck? Could have liabilities possibly.
There's still Boise Cascade?? I thought Nine Dragons (the chinese company) bought out all Boise plant's? Or, was that just Maine?? The Rumford ME. mill is ND now & a couple others...
do they have telehandlers in the US? -Im not sure if a skid steer is the same thing or not
they are pretty common in the UK
in the UK a telehander is pretty common on building sites -they can lift a pallet of plasterboard (drywall) up to the 2nd or even 3rd floor
They have them, but they tend to be a more expensive delivery, as they tend to be smaller trucks and the receiver has to have people at the site to hand unload the material. Also common for asphalt shingle delivery to the roof. You just aren't going to get that kind of service from the big box store. I'm sure they could be separately contacted to pick up from the big box store, but more common with delivery from custom stores, e.g. a roofing material store would have equipment to deliver roofing material to the roof.
There he is happy guy.
with all the material on site would make everything easier for everyone,by renting a 4wd site forklift.i feel bad for the driver.with no forklift on his truck,i would have called the customer first,to see how the product is gonna be offloaded.a quick call and you know were your at,and where to go from there.
Most shippers REQUIRE disclosure if they need assistance. I'm a mechanic. Any large items I've had delivered personally they ask if they need to provide a forklift, which is extra fee. We have a small tractor with forks, so we don't need to. I'm guessing they either expected a skid steer to be there or it broke down.
@@adamplummer2190 so you say your guessing?a smart driver would have made a quick call.i have also seen skid steers and tractors that couldnt pick up even a 1000lbs.i also saw skid steers that can pick up anything.you can tell by the size of the hydraulic cylinders.11 years doing doing lumber deliveries.on a flatbed truck, with no forklift.why guess make a call, can be the difference between a good day,or horrible day
@@brianpeterson9751 Wrong. It's a commerical site. Contractors are supposed to have a forklift and/or a loading dock. This is standard practice everywhere in the US.
@@dherman0001 as the shipper you are responsible for unloading your own truck.
@@lordBritish1 Not true at all.
Who can't appreciate not wanting to extend a ten hour work day?
That contractor should have rented a boom forklift with the bigger tires on it
truck driver could have helped make it faster by moving truck back and forth + turning around as you are using forklift, just setting stuff on ground curbside to get it off truck. could have set a record working in sync... 👌
Brother never say no, just ask 10x the price and then take the rest of the week off, lol
Saying "No" is always tough'. Good job!
it’s easy no say no. Your wife tells you no all the time
Probably 400 dollars to the customer to have the Moffett on the job site to begin with ..
Where the hell do you live? A BOBCAT would cost you more then that a day with an operator.
When calling for delivery they will ask if you have the means ie a loader on site for the truck, if not they will send out someone like you w a forklift someone goofed on the earlier truck
I like your content. Unrelated observation....you sound like John C Reilly.
Lmao. True
I was just about to say that he sounded like him. 👍
I used to drive forklifts. Side shifts are the shit.

If you only knew it was going too be a lite day
I can't even get the SeaDoo guys to move one of their own units on a multi stop load, and this guy want's you to unload a trailer that you have NO affiliation with at all??
Yup
Why'd you start with the middle bunk?
$1,000 cash.
And that’s up front
Lisbon?! You must be a Mainer lol hello from a framer in NH!! East coast driver's treat us pretty good over here and visa versa
Lisbon Connecticut
I had a friend who was a photographer and did pictures for Bruckners, anyway the guy who owns the company asks how much and out of the "blue" he said 1000 dollars, the owner wrote him a check for a 1000 dollars. So if he asks, say 100 thousand dollars and see what they say
I ask this because I don't know how this works. Are you an independent contractor? I wouldn't think that HD would want you unloading another truck if you are a company driver.
Independent contractor
how many lbs are those moffets rated for?
What is the maximum load your forklift will carry ? Also , can you extend the width of your forks ?
If I had to guess about 10k lbs. Yes forks do spread out can't say the dimensions .
Maybe you could have taken a couple of pallets of for him ? !
Yeah if you unload the other truck and something goes wrong... What happens then?
Exactly our point ☝️
They got a tracked 360 there that could probably unload that other truck with some straps.
Had a hydraulic leak
i see homedepot logo on forklift is it own by homedepot? If it is is it worth losing your contract with homedepot?
That equipment is on by Home Depot. To be 100% honest with you the people that work for the stores and courage us to help the customers and actually pay us extra to do it sometimes
You sure pass up alot of side money! Come on man! Gotta make that coin my brother! When you have a forklift you are the king of any job site!💪👍Just have a stack of waiver forms in your truck and have people sign off your liability.
👌
that’s what I do
You will change your mind the 1st time the SHTF.
I'm doing OK have a bad hangover I don't drink much. Well this may be the last time I drink o man.
They should have planned better they know they should have rented a forklift
Ok, as a general consumer I always get my own lumber and load it on my truck or trailer, so I've never had anything delivered. I'm guessing there's a delivery fee? Are drivers tipped as well? Most of my purchases are home dePot or manerds (which i always forget to send in the 10% mail in thing).
Delivery fee
@@SaffordDelivery thanks. Just wondering
Just tell then to unload a different truck besides your own it's 500 an hour with a minimum of 2 hours pay. Makes them think about doing their own job and having proper equipment
I know your job is tough to find a good drop location but it's also illegal to block a stop sign. VERY dangerous for everyone.
Id do it, but it wouldnt be cheap.
it wouldn’t be worth the risk
@@lordBritish1 there is almost always a price where it is worth the risk. If there wasnt then no one would be in business. Even with insurance, when doing the job your insured to do, you're still taking a risk
Not your problem that should have been all figured out he knew he had delivery customer should have had equipment there to unload it no your problem kinda sucks to be him but it is what it is
Sounds like dale from step brothers.
I’m from CT brotha! Where you based out of? Love your vids my man
You NEVER unload another truck, any damadge to truck OR goods is coming straight out of your pocket but you already know that so..
I have taken money from other otr drivers to back their truck into a tight truck I always tell them you'll be broke if you don't learn your backing skills we were all new drivers at one time practice practice practice and when in doubt DONT
Working construction days like this sucks someone higher up fucked up trackhoe leaking hydraulic fluid the one thing thing that would work wont work now. You were the one hope they had they were just having a Monday
Wowwwwww how much did all that plywood cost two months ago...
That's what truckers do
I may be wrong but if you unload another truck and there is damaged material doesn’t that make YOU liable for it since the other truck is not your companies truck.
Yes
Bullshit. Make the customer check the load for damage and sign his bill on the truck as is where us abs he takes responsibility from there. You’re just being a good dude n helping out for a few hundred bux and a signature on this here Hold Harmless agreement. Badabing, badaboom beer money in the pocket.

That contractor really dropped the ball, no lift for that fat ass truck. Even if I had the time I dont think I would bother with a whole truck. Maybe if it was just a few units or so
All depends on the $.
How much to unload that truck too?
Me: "About 1200."
Him: "No man that's too much!"
Me: "I'll knock 200 off if I can do it after I do this truck?"
Him: "You got yourself a deal."
No way that guy would’ve agreed to a grand. You be there there for 15 minutes negotiating. You heard him say he’d give the guy money for gas.
Don't say "i don't have time", because that sounds like a flexible issue that can be negotiated. Just be straight, and say..."it's a liability issue. My insurance carrier only covers me for handling the material I haul!" And he should know that. I hate lifelong Contractors who try to cut corners and get subs to do sketchy stuff to save them time or money when they know full well it's wrong.
The project manager should be offloading the truck. Not another guy bringing material lol
How can you offload at a stop sign?
Because that's where the site was
