    I am all badass in practice but during duals or a tournament I’m a rookie again.

    Im a freshmen who wrestled in 7th grade, and my coaches are saying that im “going to be a beast”, but im still super nervous. This helped a lot. Especially the trusting the preparation part.

      I get you bro I’m in the same situation I got a match in about an hour for the league tournament and I’m already going to divisionals because there’s only two other people in my bracket.

    My training partner and I used this strategy for our bjj competition, a hard drill and burpees warm up. I completely avoided the adrenaline dump and it calmed my nerves. I could feel my opponents fatiguing and hear them starting to breathe heavy during my matches. I won both of my divisions! Thank you for the solid advice!

    In the practice room im a fucking stud, I go toe to toe with a former state champ and then I get to the mat in front of the crowd and wrestle like dogshit. It’s terrible

    i’m about to start 2nd year into wrestling. everytime i’m about to wrestle against somebody, i feel really intimidated, because i’m in the heavy weights and i feel like my opponent will embarrass me or something.

      I wrestle 170, im a freshman, I’m wrestling varsity, and I’m going into my 7th-8th year of wrestling. I feel exactly everything you go through. Do the things well and perfect them, then execute them on the mat. What would you be embarrassed about? Because someone threw you or hip tossed you?

      Barry McCocciner i guess the tension gets me scared, only because of how he looks, having negative thoughts. and yeah i sometimes feel like my opponent will do a move that’ll make the team laugh tbh

    Do u think it's like toxic or bad if someone before a match is bouncing up and down before a match

    • @JasonLayton

      No, that’s a good way to stay warm, but after the warmup... you need to do a real warmup.

  • @phattygoodness7347
    @phattygoodness7347 5 лет назад +14

    There lies a conundrum. When is a warm too much? So, when you're coming off a cut and you roll from the scale and the weighin, to the mat for a warm up, should you be looking to just hit that mark where you're stretched and warm...got a good sweat going and then take a seat to recover...or should you put together a lengthy warmup that resembles a standard practice. I ask this question because I noticed that my son's team struggles to get through 3 periods...the entire lineup. My son has never had issues with cardio, and especially after a couple weeks of practice. He thinks that they're warming up too hard for too long and nobody has the energy left for a long day of wrestling...this is specifically regarding tournaments or quads.
    Your thoughts? Any advice??

    • @JasonLayton
      @JasonLayton  5 лет назад +12

      I’m talking about a warm-up directly leading into the match, without a cool down period. Warming up for 40 minutes and then resting for an hour before your match it not a warmup. Your warmup should lead directly into your match, so that your body is literally warmer (and sweating to cool itself down).
      Sweaty and breathing heavy, that’s where you want to be when you step onto the mat for your match.
