A warm and cloudy day on the Coast as we depart Hokitika for Christchurch. The usual loop out at sea gives awesome views over Hokitika, the River, the Airport and the distant Southern Alps.

Hokitika the most beautiful town on the West Coast. Really, with green stone factories and a delicious French restaurant 25 years ago.
I almost bought a house about then; can't afford it now. I loved it there.
It really is an absolute stunner! As soon as you land and hop off the plane and smell that fresh West Coast air, it's an incredible evocative feeling of home :) :)
I remember it just like that, 25 years on. I spent nearly 3 months riding my bike all over the south island. Best way to travel, no hobbits, everyone was pathologically friendly. I wish someone would adopt me so I could come live there. Immigration won't have me because I'm too old, and not a bizillionaire.@@FullyNZ

They really are just the best! I have an incredible fondness for them. After working on them for years, hundreds and hundreds flights, I still enjoy every Dash 8 flight. The 300 is an incredible machine :)
